Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation

Our relationship with nature not only defines our history, it shapes our future, too. Yet beneath the surface of Iceland’s fjords, an industrial fish farming method threatens to destroy one of Europe’s last remaining wildernesses. Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation tells the story of a country united by its lands and waters, and the power of a community to protect the wild places and animals that helped forge its identity.

Community Energy in Spain

By supporting local renewable-energy cooperatives in Spain, you can participate in and benefit from clean, affordable power for all.

We Are Energy

Spain is one of Europe’s leaders in solar-power generation and one of the world's leaders in wind energy. But our wind and solar farms are dominated by a small group of large multinational companies.

That’s changing with renewable-energy cooperatives, like Som Energia, who now have more than 70,000 members and are continuing to grow. The future of community energy in Spain depends on your participation.

Join an energy community. Invest in one. Or build your own.

Stories of Community Energy

Fighting Energy Poverty in Valladolid

Energética coop emerged as a social initiative during the peak of the 2008 financial crisis, bringing clean and equitable energy to their town.

In 2015, they had just 74 members, no employees and no energy production contracts.

Now, they are the largest energy cooperative in Castilla y León with 1,715 members, seven employees and 2,406 contracts. Energética coop offers renewable energy to all of Spain, and they’ve installed more than 20 local solar projects.

Go Solar with Collective Purchases

Get solar panels installed on your roof or terrace and start generating your own energy with Som Energia’s collective-purchase program, which began in 2018. It’s a great way to reduce management, administrative and legal costs for those who want to produce their own electricity.

Som Energia is in the process of making 1,700 installations possible, with 750 already in operation, which will elevate the collective-purchase model as an important tool for Spain’s social transformation and a new energy model.

Together, we can restore power to the people and bring the benefits of clean energy home.
