Belgium’s Energy Rebel

Co-founder of REScoop.eu, Dirk Vansintjan first shared his community-energy vision with Europe when he started Ecopower in 1991 after buying the Rotselaar water mill in Flanders, Belgium. Vansintjan later went on to create REScoop.eu, a European federation of citizen-energy cooperatives.

Energent

Energy cooperative Energent is promoting more solar panels in Ghent, Belgium, and its surrounding area, by helping homeowners, tenants and local businesses. Energent created a map indicating how well buildings in the city are oriented for solar-energy production, and they also help with group-purchasing schemes and assist families with financing and learning about solar installation.
