Additional Information

Now made of 100% organic cotton with a linen-like texture, our tried-and-true Pataloha™ Shirt has been around for decades and is a revival of the much-loved Hawaiian shirts of old; this season, our prints are inspired by mālama ‘āina, the Hawaiian tradition of care and protection for the land.

Over 70 years ago, a unique shirt made from hand-printed kabe crepe was created in a tiny tailor shop in Honolulu. It captured the spirit of the Hawaiian Islands, and would later become famous as the aloha shirt. As its popularity grew, it came to be accepted in the Islands as formal wear appropriate for all but the most rigid of occasions. With this season’s original prints inspired by mālama ‘āina, the Hawaiian tradition of care and protection for the land, our updated Pataloha™ Shirt is made from 100% organic cotton dobby with a linen-like texture. Cool and comfortable in hot and humid weather, it has a notched collar, coconut buttons, single left-chest pocket and straight hem with side vents; the prints are finely matched at the pocket and placket. With a more traditional fit, it’s a collector’s item that stays true to Hawaiian custom—wear it anywhere a celebration is likely to break out.

Organic Cotton

In 1996, with an increased awareness of the dangers of pesticide use and synthetic fertilizers in growing conventional cotton, we began the exclusive use of organically grown cotton in all of our cotton products.

The quality of organic cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton, yet organically grown methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more. But it’s worth it.

To ensure we are buying cotton that is organic as defined by the USDA’s National Organic Program, we require numerous certificates issued by an accredited third-party certification body for every step of the supply chain, from farm to factories.
