Jenny’s path to mountain exploration started in the North Cascades, backpacking with her family. She caught the rock-climbing bug in her mid-20s, lived in a van and traveled with the conditions, ticking off well-respected alpine routes in Canada, Patagonia and Europe. During COVID, Jenny discovered a penchant for running and took it into the mountains, rediscovering areas she’d often been with a heavy climbing kit. She loved how much faster she could go with just a lightweight pack. Jenny started expanding the traditional definition of trail running, mixing technical rock skills with the simplicity of running. Her favorite form of mountain expression involves long, complex routes that mix trail and off-trail travel, just seeing how far she can get.

“It doesn’t matter whether you call it trail running or mountain running or ultra-neering,” she says. “Moving through the mountains unencumbered by a heavy load is a special form of freedom.”
