These practices reduce greenhouse gas emissions and could help trap more carbon than conventional agriculture.

Regenerative Organic Farming Practices

These practices focus on improving soil health and the full farm ecosystem. To do this, farmers use a range of methods that have been around for millennia.

Organic

Organic farming means no synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics or growth hormones.

Cover crops

Farmers grow cover crops in addition to their cash crop to help increase soil organic matter, improve soil water retention and reduce erosion.

Compost

Farmers use waste from the farm and convert it into compost, which acts as a natural fertilizer and pesticide.

Crop rotation

A systematic approach where crop varieties are rotated from one year to the next.

Intercropping

Planting multiple types of crops closely together can produce greater yields and improve soil health over time.

Low- to no-tilling

Tilling is a common practice that involves digging, stirring and overturning soil. Reducing the need for this practice can help soil retain more water and organic matter.
