Protect the ocean so it can protect us

Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Why do you work for Patagonia?

I truly think businesses are kind of citizens on this planet. And individual citizens, communities, corporate ‘citizens’, and governments each play an essential and complementary role in protecting people and planet, working for the benefit of all, and ensuring a stable and healthy future. It is motivating, rewarding, and morally encouraging to work for an organisation that is conscious of its responsibilities as a citizen. One that tries to continuously improve, however much the status quo is encouraged.

What are you passionate about?

Discovering new cultures, philosophies, and people through travelling, reading, cooking and enjoying arts.

How has working for Patagonia changed you?

It has accelerated personal changes to fight environmental and social justice crises. Professionally, I'm continuously ‘unlearning’ and discovering new ways of working.

What is the best thing about your job?

Getting to work with so many different people and sharing different perspectives. I also love supporting employees, and the company, in working to achieve its mission. This feels unique and is a privilege.

What skills and traits help you to thrive at Patagonia?

Being your authentic self, sharing a willingness to work as part of a community, and wanting to connect with a purpose and do everything you can to achieve it.
