Patagonia, you've done it again.. managed to design a puffy that works in the alpine and the hood... not so warm as to be overstuffed and light enough that you'll take it with you and use it... good for the winter wilds of snow/wind and walking the hood to get an early morning coffee...
Could dispense many words but less is definitely more ... This downie fits in two worlds... warm enough for Colorado winters in the high Alpine and not too warm/overstuffed to make it unusable for more mild uses.. love this jacket so much i have a hoodie and non-hoodie....
I had my last down sweater for 10 years, wore it on three different continents and on countless climbing, hiking, skiing, running, biking and traveling adventures. It was my go to for everything including the casual hangout. When it finally started to kick the bucket I thought I could just get the same thing again for another decade without having ... Read Moreto try anything new because my size is hard to find, but the new design killed that idea. After wearing this jacket for a winter season I have concluded that everything I loved about it is gone. The fit is too slim and too short, almost like a women's fit. I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably constricting and letting in a bad belly draft. I'd go a size up but then the arms would be too long. They are already a bit long and without the elastic at the ends the cuffs get in the way...they keep getting in my oatmeal. When zipped up the neck is too tight and the hood is bunched up in the back. Even when the hood is on it's tight and squashes your face. There's no comfortable way to have it zipped all the way up so you have to leave it splayed open and in the way. Oh, and the hood is tiny, definitely not helmet compatible so wearing a shell over with a helmet is annoying because there's just this bunch in your neck. It feels like this jacket was designed to personal preference/ proportions without experience and it bums me out. Please, please bring back something closer to the classic style. In the mean time I'm looking for something else and lamenting my loss.

Very bad choice and quality
I wrote a review 12 months after buying it, now I'm writing again to make it clear that the jacket falls apart, the same rubbing of a backpack on the back (work backpack with a notebook on the back) wears out sanity and I ripped the fabric therefore losing feathers, the only solution they gave me in the stores in Argentina and Berlin was to st... They didn't fix my jacket because you have to wash it before wearing it (I can't wash it because it has a 5-centimeter hole losing feathers) so there it is patched with something that looks like black ducktape.
Too bad, having so many other products with several years in use and still in perfect condition, you have products like this.
Another thing, you have to go to the local to get attention or respond.
The jacket can be used for any activity that does not include using a backpack or cross pack, it is practical for traveling but it stays there, it is made of glass, it looks very nice and warm, but when it is hit or rubbed it disarms , and Doesn't repel even a light drizzle.

If you live in a cold country with a lot of rain, it is indeed ideal. Light weight, warm and really cool color if you get the gold one, with a nice green inside. Many complemented it.

This is jacket is a classic for a reason. Lightweight but warm, packs into its own pocket, and looks great. I have several Patagonia garments, and they are all excellent. One of my favorites is the Nano Puff jacket, but I needed something a bit warmer for late fall and winter walks outdoors. Sad with the fit/design of the 2022 version.
Let me start I LOVE Patagonia for so many reasons, and have countless articles of clothing and gear from them, including a couple prior year's down sweaters. I would pass on this year, and hopefully patagonias awesome designers will refine the cut to be slimmer, go back to a quality zipper, and most of all fix the cuffs. It will be an immediate buy again for me. Until then, Ill be missing you down sweater!

The fit is perfect. Not too tight, not too lose. It sits just a tad below the hips, so not too long and not too short. The sleeve length is perfect. Some improvements, some really strange design choices
I own one of the older models of the Patagonia down sweater and have always wanted to get one with a hood for days where the hood would come in handy.
Scooped up this down sweater hoody and was pleasantly surprised by a few updates/changes:
- hem length seems just a hair shorter. This is much better for me as I have a shorter torso and I really l... Read Moreike the way this fits
- really feels warmer w/ the update. Could be just that its new, but its definitely warmer than my old jacket.
- the material seems slightly more durable as advertised. Still not a super durable jacket obviously, but slightly less worried about wearing it while doing chores outside or in active situations.
Updates/changes that have really boggled my mind and caused quite a bit of frustration:
- no elasticity around the cuffs. This makes no sense and its really distracting and very unpleasant. The jacket is warmer, but if there is any wind its going straight up your sleeve. I almost returned the jacket based on how distracting this feature is.
- no liner around the neck. My wife has the previous model down sweater hoody and hers has this really soft material on the inside where the jacket meets your face.
Overall Id still recommend this jacket. I hope the next version sees a return of some of the old features.
My husband loves this coat! He says it is so warm and that it also feels light and not too heavy. He loves the red/blue color. He also loves the way the hood is made. It rains a lot here and can get pretty windy but the hood always stays on! He wears it every day and is very happy with it!
Honestly, I love the jacket my only issue is that the cuffs are not secure on your wrists like the previous versions. You do catch some wind on breezy days.
I bought this jacket to replace a larger, bulkier down jacket in order to be able to layer underneath a gore-tex shell. I'm still shocked at how much warmer it is than the bulkier coat and how much lighter it is. My only issue is with the hood being a little tight, especially with a hoodie underneath, but it's an easy workaround.
Very warm, packable, lightweight, high quality, just an all around great jacket. The Patagonia website description is spot on, I agree with all and have zero complaints about this product. I highly recommend it.
Tried and True. Can never have enough of this style jacket. Shredded my other one while skiing powder at Mammoth. Patched it up, but decided on getting another one for a back up!
So warm and wind resistant for its weight. Hood fits great - with or without a hat and fits nicely around my neck. Zippers work smoothly and the pockets are beautifully sized for anything I need to carry. I have a slight sizing problem as I am somewhere between a medium and large - so I sized up to a large which makes the length perfect for me but ... Read Moreleaves a bit too much airspace inside the jacket for my skinny frame to heat up when first walking out into the cold. After 5 minutes or so I generate enough body heat that its not a problem. I also own a Nanopuff hoody (for warmer days, wet weather and to use as an under layer under my DAS parka - making me invincibly warm). The Nano Puff medium fits me perfectly
This is the only down item I own as I generally refuse to buy down for ethical reasons. Patagonia has provided one of the only ethically sourced down items I know of. That combined with their commitment to fair labor practices and the kind of quality that lasts a lifetime makes this a very satisfying item to own and wear. I confess, I look forward to putting it on every morning.
Altogether- its a great piece and well worth the money - like most Patagonia products
Just moved back to upstate NY after a few years in Fl. This coat is awesome for the cold weather.
Lightweight, hood is making and zips to nose.
Layers add even more warmth. Bought one for my wife too.
I bought a whole host of jackets for the winter period here in Cape Town, temperatures range from low 40F to mid 50F (4C - 15C) , but it's the rain and wind that will get ya here.
I knew the down jacket would be warm, and that it was. In a lot situations, I only needed a good baselayer underneath and that was it.
What blew me away was the ... Read Morewind protection (pun intended). I would wear this walking home in the low 40s with howling wind with only a baselayer and flannel underneath and the cold wind would not penetrate the jacket at all. This instantly made it my favorite jacket.
The down can compress into a tiny size that makes it great for traveling, and the hood covers your entire head and is adjustable for a tighter/looser fit.
As a bonus, I also love how simple it looks, allowing you to walk into most settings without looking under-dressed or informal. I loved it so much I also got the vest version that works well too outdoors.

Most warm and durable jacket owned
Love this jacket, it has traveled the world with me on hikes and climbs and has kept me warm. Even when it needed minor repairs, Patagonia took care of it. Wow, a garment which will be with me for the

This is my third Down Sweater Hoody over the past 15 years. I have have tried other brands over the years but made a call several years ago that Patagonia is my only brand. I have the older non-hoody version of the down sweater and I wanted a hoody version. I read the reviews of the new design and had some concerns, but decided to see for myself.

The fit is indeed larger, but I'm sure it's intended for layering. However, when zipped up, the chest area is boxy. But, hey, it's a down coat and most are going to look boxy sometimes.

Warm and comfy, overall. Really like how the hook and the neck are shaped as it nicely cradles my head and neck. There's lots of warmth in the hook and neck. For me, keeping my head and neck warm are key to keeping the rest of my body warm.
Love this jacket - Very soft to the touch and light. The hoody is great, and the deep inside pockets are a great addition. Very warn and moves well well with your body while being active.

I love this jacket. It's super light, but incredibly warm. I can make it through most of winter here in Chicago with just this and another light layer. The inside pockets are nice as well. Highly recommend.
The Down Sweater hoody is very light and thin, but it can withstand quite cold temperatures, especially if you wear a thick sweater underneath it. If you're „cold" person, buy a warmer jacket for winter and use this one for the „middle season".
I own the same product from 2020. This year the cuff's are much looser as others have mentioned. The black color is also washed out compared to previous generations, which I assume is from the new netplus material. Otherwise it's a good jacket.
The Patagonia Men's Down Sweater Hoody is a perfect jacket. Looks great and is plenty warm during the winter months. One suggestion would be to add a true Navy to your line of jackets. Thank you for many years of warmth and comfort!
Excellent jacket but unfortunately with one problem
The Down Sweater hoody is really excellent jacket, fit well, comfortable, warm, light, but unfortunately with one big problem. After one week of wearing I found on back side of the jacket damaged (snagged) upper shell material. It was damaged from sharp plastic ending of rubber band for pulling the hood. So guys if you read this, check the ending b... Read Moreefore wearing.
Fortunately, thanks to perfect servis it is solved.
Very comfortable and warm whilst being light weight. The only issue is hanging the jacket up, if you could add a proper noose inside that would be great but I’m being really picky here. Overall it’s well worth the money.
Considering that I've had my other Patagonia puffy for 20+ years, it was a no brainer to buy another one. I wanted something with a hood and not black ... so this was it. I have no doubt that I'll get 20+ years out of this one as well. This one is so cozy and even if it fits a TINY bit small, it's perfect for what I need it for. I do... Read Moren't like to layer a lot because I get too hot, so a LS or SS tee with this, or a base later for a hike is perfect for me.
This jacket has been my Go To putter and mid layer for the past decade. Compressed into y camera pack or puffs to provide the barrier against the chills. Hands down one of my favorite items of clothing.
The warmth to weight ratio this jacket has is incredible! The jacket is very simple with no extra features that could be labeled as useless. No regrets with this purchase.
The old fit and feel of this jacket was much different. The cuffs were better. The pocket draw string is gone. They seemed to get cheap with the zipper this year too. No more comfortable zipper, just a string thats was burned, hoping it doesnt fray. Very warm stylish jacket other than that
Super warm and of so comfortable. Softest jacket from Patagonia that Ive owned
The new material they're using for their puff jackets are so soft and silky yet seems really durable. Really warm and comfortable. Best jacket in my wardrobe. Im a Patagonia customer for life because the gear just gets better and better. Fits perfect for my slim frame.
I really like this jacket. My only frustration is that the elastic on the cuffs is too large to keep cold air out. This is a change from previous Patagonia jacket's I've owned. I hope Patagonia will go back to the previous cuff dimensions.
This is a great coat. The hood is a great added bonus. The small did not fit for a 140 pound 5 Foot 4 person so make sure to get a size Medium. I love that you can put a rain coat over this jacket and easily roll it up and tuck it in your bag. I liked the coat so much that I bought a second one without the hood.
Last year I bought the Down Sweater. This year I bought the Hoody Down Sweater. I believe your quality has gone down since last year. The cuffs are certainly not a good as the Sweater's are.
Hey Edward, thank you for the review. We're sorry to hear that you feel like the quality has gone down with our Down Sweater Hoody. This season we released a redesign that uses NetPlus which is a fiber created from discarded fishing nets. We've also added 29% more down. We're not sure what it is about the cuffs that you're not a fan of, but we'd be more than happy to accept a return back. Love the jacket
This now my second down as sweater hoody I bought and I just love it. Men’s model suits me better than the women’s (I’m a woman) because it is much roomier and I can put layers underneath for even colder weather than what this jacket was originally aimed. And as I live in Finland, the temperatures can get quite freezing sometimes ;)
