Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Terrible. Uncomfortable. Won't ever ride with them.
I bought these for shorter, more utilitarian rides (around town, for groceries, cruise to a brewery, etc), hoping they'd offer some comfort on the bike with a slimmer profile than a regular chamois. I wore them once and the reason they're not in the landfill already is guilt on my part -- so they're relegated to the back of the short... Read Mores drawer.
The chamois is indeed thin, but it's stiff as cardboard and is so wide it kinda cuts into your thighs. And because it's thin, it doesn't offer any more comfort and support than a regular pair of boxer briefs.
I was tempted by the sale price but don't waste your money. Either get the dirt roamer or a competitor's equivalent.

Disappointed - rare for Pata
Least favorite thing I have ever bought from Pata :( I am skinny and leg openings still way too tight compared to other bike shirts or compression shorts, uncomfortably so (and why?). Front part of chamois is too wide and rubs on inner thighs in the pedaling stroke. Even at web specials price, feels like something generic with same quality I could ... Hey Jon, thank you for the review. We're so sorry to hear that these were such a disappointment. You're welcome to send them back for a refund or merchandise credit. Comfortable commuting
I've worn these commuting 21 miles (33km) each way to and from work. These liners work just as well as my regular biking shorts and they might even be more comfortable. They're not very noticeable beneath clothes, so you can walk into stores and get things you need without coming across as an obvious biker.
Brilliant padded liner, I use them for mountainbiking and gravelriding with different hiking shorts over. Breathes well and dries fast. A bit tight in the lower leg, otherwise true to size.
excited for this product. nice material etc.
however, the pad - notably on the front side - is far too wide, making it uncomfortable between my legs.
if the pad was more narrow, this would be a killer prodcut
We appreciate your feedback, Pete! If a few wash and dry cycles don't improve the chamois for you, please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service team or your nearest Patagonia-owned store to return them under our [Ironclad Guarantee](https://help.patagonia.com/s/article/Ironclad-Guarantee). A friend for stealth bikers everywhere
Love these for my #partypace and more casual rides. Really great to be able to go big miles, but then walk into a patio/restaurant without looking like i'm in full cycle kit.
The perfect amount of padding in my opinion. Doesn't feel bulky like some of my other liners, and is great to hike a bike in. Rode for multiple 50+ mile days comfortably!
These are perfect as an under short for mountain biking or as a short for spinning on the trainer. Only issue I had is they are a bit tight on my thigh. I probably could have sized up.
For many rides, I forgo wearing bib shorts because of the thick padding. These liner shorts are the answer. They give just enough pad and protection, but dont feel like a baby diaper!
Well vented, breathe well. Run small. I usually wear 32" waist. These liners come in S, M or L. I needed L pants so ordered liner in L. Fit well. The pad is very good, right up there with another cycling specific brand. Recommend.
What did I just buy? I thought I was replacing my old Patagonia liner but what I got is literally garbage. I wish I could attach a side by side photo to this, but I'm guessing my old liners were the Dirt Roamers which apparently only come in Capri pants sizes now. These liners are perfect for someone who rides 10-15 miles on city roads. If you... Read More ride 50 miles, this is a single use item. The stitches around the pad are the biggest joke. The pad itself looks like it was cut out with scissors, the edges left unfinished. There's very little in terms of construction, very little rubberized sections. I'm not even sure why there is a pad at all. You could've just used R3 fleece and it would've been lighter and more comfortable. The difference in quality between this liner and my previous one is just mind boggling. I'm actually afraid now that Patagonia is pulling out of cycling, which was my suspicion all along. The product line just gets worse and worse. Like, by making shorts with no pockets, for example, you realize you're only catering to the jocks, right? Like this ultra light super performance liner you're selling, it's for jocks, not normal people. Is there going to be a high quality, durable and functional liner again, instead of this cost cutting "minimalist" single use item you're selling? Why is there no 9" Dirt Roamer liner?
Hi there, we're so sorry to hear about your experience with the Nether Bike Liner Shorts - 7". Please feel free to begin a return or exchange at any time.
Sadly, we do not have a 9" bike short liner, but we do have the [Men's Dirt Roamer Bike Liner Shorts - 9½"](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-dirt-roamer-mountain-bike-liner-shorts-9-half-inch/24677.html?dwvar_24677_color=BLK&cgid=root). Go ahead and check them out when you have a moment.

Simple, light and functional
Excellent minimalist bike shorts, perfect for long bikepacking expedition, wash well in lakes and streams and dry quickly. When not in use pack small
I've only worn these once, and they were good. They cover and protect my "saddle zone," which is what I'd expect. At first I thought they weren't quite "supportive" enough, but after a few miles I forgot about that. I think these will be great in hot weather. I need more miles in these before I can decide whether ... Read Moreto buy more.
The Nether bike shorts are perfect for those epic rides when time off the bike is as important as on it. The minimalist padding only covers what is needed and allows the other body parts to be free.
I wanted a light weight, breathable undershort with a non-bulky chamois. This is it! Works great. Breathes. The pad is perfect! I havent worn anything else since I bought them. I have generally been riding 20-25 miles of dirt in Northern Arizona. Havent worn them on a big ride yet, but Im sure theyll be great. No chafing and no issues so far.
Really happy with these. Not as bulky as other padded shorts I've worn, but offer good protection. Also felt pretty breathable in hot/humid New England summer. Would recommend.
Awkward seams cause chafing of the thighs. Padding is stiff. Bike short design needs to communicate with strider run short designer. This is the one product I dont recommend.
Hey Andrew, thank you for the review on the Nether Bike Liner Shorts - 7". We're very sorry to hear that the seams have caused chaffing for you, and we've passed the word along to our design team. If you're still in the market for some liner shorts, we recommend checking out the [Men's Endless Ride Liner Shorts - 9"](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-endless-ride-liner-shorts-for-mountain-biking-9-inch/24675.html?dwvar_24675_color=BLK&cgid=root) as the seaming is less prominent.

Amazing piece of gear
I've been cycling for over 20 years and have been happy with chamois. Always uncomfortable not matter the brand. I stopped using them a few years back and went to Patagonia AC boxer brief that work great but now I have the best of both worlds.
These shorts have just about the right amount of padding, not too much and not too little. The fabric material is very nice and thin, as well a super breathable.
This liner is very comfortable to wear bike commuting or taking shorter bike rides (<25 miles) where a standard chamois feels a bit much. Initially fits a bit smaller than I expected but seems like they will stretch and fit perfect with a more use.
The comfort of the compression short is amazing. Although the durability of the product is sometimes a concern its still durable enough to wear daily. The versatility tops off this 4 out of 5 star rating because it can be worn for just about any activity.
Disappointed. I have the higher-end liners as well and thought these would be a good budget purchase, not worth it. The Chamois is cut jaggedly and to say they are minimalist is an understatement. Barely adequate and overpriced for that they are.
As one reviewer has previously mentioned, these liner shorts are sort of a glorified boxer brief. These aren't meant for intense rides or long days, but rather shorter stints on a bike. Again, others have mentioned the cut is a tad small in the thighs (works for me) while also being roomy in the waist. While formfitting, they certainly aren&#x... These shorts, however, do excel at being very low profile and wearable for hours off the bike if needed.
I ride my bike a lot around town running errands and commuting whenever I can. My goods don't feel too great if unprotected and swinging free, but sometimes a full serious chamois is too much and can be super uncomfortable walking around the grocery store or sitting at a friends house drinking a beer. I would say this is one of the first Patagonia products I have been unenthusiastic about after receiving. If I had to guess I would say these are Patagonia boxer shorts with a pad sewn in. Comfy Pad - but rear cut is too short
I find myself picking these shorts over my Pearl shorts as I like the lower bulk liner for shorter rides. I've found the liner to be top quality and very comfortable. My dislikes are the rear cut on the shorts is much too low and when you move into a lean forward riding position I'm wishing for 1-2" more material, atleast. Thankfully... Read More these are undershorts and my fellow bikers don't have to witness the "coin slot" that ensues.
The liner is great on shorter rides but on anything longer than a few hours the chamois doesn't provide enough padding. That being said, the shorts are comfortable and don't ride up. Thanks, Patagonia!
I feel like Pro Athlete, Patagonia makes absolutely perfect fit for me. No matter what, underwear, mid layer, jacket. I am nearly 61, 150lb, everything fit me precisely.
Anyway, these bike liner feels great where they shall, as mentioned fantastic fit, color and it is minimalist light design. Thnx Patagonia, keep making stuff for me.
I was disappointed with the fit of this product. I ordered the Small based on the size guide and found the leg openings to be way too small for anyone with any sort of cycling musculature. Very tight around the quads. The chamois/pad is really small also seems placed too far forward so the edge of the chamois hits the crease of the leg while pedali... Read Moreng.
Fit of the waist, depth, etc was spot on. Leg length/inseam was perfect for a liner to be worm under shorts. Very light, excellent waist band comfort and these will also stay cool in warmer climates. If you have thin legs, give these a go. Quadzillas need not apply.
The material is great- Super comfortable and breathes well in the heat, looks good, I definitely found myself forgetting I was wearing it! Which leads me to my only comment- I live in Austin Tx, (which has some serious hills) and bike around 20 miles a day. The chamois helped for sure, but if you bike that much on hilly terrain you're still go... Read Moreing to "feel the burn" with this item to a degree.
