Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation

Our relationship with nature not only defines our history, it shapes our future, too. Yet beneath the surface of Iceland’s fjords, an industrial fish farming method threatens to destroy one of Europe’s last remaining wildernesses. Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation tells the story of a country united by its lands and waters, and the power of a community to protect the wild places and animals that helped forge its identity.

Notes from the Road: Worn Wear Fall 2016 Tour

We’re a little more than halfway through the tour here in the United States and can’t decide what’s worse: the summer heat down in the South or the demolition y’all do on your garments! Truthfully, we’re not fazed by either. We love the challenging repairs being thrown at us and don’t mind a bit of sweat along the way.

We’re meeting some inspiring characters:

Mike Thompson, the impetus behind the Retro-X Vest. We had the honor of putting a fresh zipper on his original prototype. All photos: Donnie Hedden

Doug and his dog Elvis, one of the many ambassadors of hospitality representing Austin, Texas. Doug allegedly co-wrote the Folgers jingle, “The best part of waking up …” We fixed his Austin-made bag and made sure to get his autograph.

Ali commandeered her Dad’s original Synchilla fleece, fixed it and made it her own.

Joseph stopped by to repair the shirt that’s accompanying him to every national park before he’s thirty.

The list goes on. There’s no shortage of rich stories and compelling reasons to keep garments in use and out of the trash.

Notes from the Road: Worn Wear Fall 2016 Tour

Just like sittin’ on the porch back home.

For the second half of the tour we’ll be crawling up the East Coast then heading west to Chicago for the grand finale. Thanks to all who’ve participated both in person and on social media. We’re constantly encouraged by the growing contingent of folks who display the upmost responsibility in the stories they wear. Our next stop is this Friday, September 2, at Arcadian Shop in Lenox, Massachusetts, followed by visits to New Hampshire, Michigan and Illinois. The Worn Wear tour page has all the details.

Onward.
