I'm 5'10", 165lbs and I wear a medium in just about every brand for t-shirts, mid layers & jackets. I had to exchange the medium Better Sweater Hoody for a large. The photos of the 6'1" model wearing a medium convinced me that a medium would be my first pick, but now when I look at those photos I can see how snug the ja... Read Morecket is on the model and how high the arm pits are. The medium fit like a glove, at first: snug chest & torso (but not too-snug), perfect length arms. I was stoked. However, by the end of the day, my armpits were sore from the fabric rubbing too much and the fit across the shoulders/upper back was tight, resulting in fatigue... I wanted out of the jacket! It was definitely not able to provide all day comfort. I exchanged it for a large and was surprised that large was not too big & baggy. The toros, chest & arms are all slightly looser but not oversized. The armpits are actually still a little snug but it's manageable. I think Patagonia is pushing a little too hard on the slim-fit cuts. The fit change in the R1 a couple years ago is a perfect example. My +10 year-old R1 3/4 zip hoody with paint stains all over it fits perfectly. My newer R1 without a hood is a little snug in the arm pits and smaller overall but wearable (both are mediums). The Better Sweater follows the same theme, except now I'm sizing up a whole size and I've been 5'10"/165lbs & active for at least the last 10-15 years. Other than the size running small, the Better Sweater hoody is great... warmer than expected, huge hood for use with helmets & a softness in the 100% recycled wool that's super comfortable.
We're sorry that this wasn't a good fit for you, and we appreciate your thoughtful and detailed feedback. This Men's Lightweight Better Sweater is a "slim" fit, but you might prefer one of our "regular" or "relaxed" fit [fleece jackets](https://www.patagonia.com/shop/mens-fleece?prefn1=fit&prefv1=regular%7Crelaxed) instead. If they made a regular-thickness version, it would be the best hoody ever
I love this sweater! The 4 pockets, great material, and hood make it my favorite hoody/sweater that I currently own. I only wish that the normal thickness (i.e. non-lightweight) better sweaters were available with the hood. The material in this one is very thin, especially along the sides, and a light breeze cuts straight through it. That said, in ... Read Morethe moderately cool temperatures, like 60s-50s fahrenheit, this hoody takes the spot as my go-too light hoody/sweater. If a version of the normal thickness better sweater had a hood on it, it would be the best hoody ever and I would probably buy several in different colors for use in fall/winter.
Better Sweater Hoodie
The Better Sweater Hoodie is beautiful, however it is cut very tight and narrow. So if you are 6'1" and weight 160 it is made for you. If these are not your measurements then I would suggest you order something else. Look at other reviews as they say the same...
Thank you for sharing this feedback, Steven. We're sorry to hear that Hoody didn't fit you right! The Lightweight Better Sweater line is cut with a slim fit. You might have better results checking some of our other [Hoodies](https://www.patagonia.com/shop/mens-sweatshirts-hoodies?prefn1=fit&prefv1=regular%7Crelaxed). Comfortable and warm
Firstly, I am just about 6'2", 170lbs, athletic build. I wear a size medium in the original better sweater which has a fitted look on me. It fits just about perfect. I also wear a better sweater in a large so I can layer underneath it for cold outdoor adventures. This size has a baggier look and feel. The most I can layer under the medium... Read More is a short and long sleeve tea shirt combined. Under the large I can layer a short and long sleeve tee shirt and a medium better sweater. That information is for size references. As for this lightweight slim version. A medium definitely would have been too small. The large fits just about perfect. The slim large in this version is like the in-between size of the medium and large regular better sweater, which is a 'regular fit'. The large slim is just a bit roomier than the medium regular fit. I hope those comparison help. Also, it is really comfortable and warm. The look is a bit more casual and sporty I guess you could say. I actually like that for a more dress down vibe. All around, I am very happy with it.
Product Not Correctly Described (Size)
I have been your customer since the 1980s. As a result I have at least a dozen sweaters. "L" (Large) is ordinarily a good fit, so I ordered this item as an "L". On arrival, I found the item was very tight and uncomforable, but I kept it on the bet that I might lose weight. I replaced it with an "XL" which fits well. Th... Read Moree problem is that the sizing of this product is not accurate.
I love the pockets I think the lightweight is a little bit to light weight but it definitely gets me threw 23 degrees so Im cool with it I love it Ive gotten 4-7 people who said it was nice and wanted it so thats great there already recommended I love my sweeter thank u Patagonia
Nice jacket but too narrow in the shoulders
I love the design of this fleece jacket, with the stretch side panels and 4 subtly hidden pockets. Unfortunately I had to return it because it was too tight across the shoulders. I dont know who theyre designing jackets to fit anymore, but its been years since Ive been able to fit in one, and Im not a broad-shouldered guy. Pretty average 62, 200 lb... Read Mores.. otherwise it was nice, a liked the elastic cuffs and hood.
Cute on this item was too small
The cut on this item was too small. I have other Patagonia items which are XXL and fit just right. I even have an XL hoodie which fits fine. You need to go back and make the cuts on jackets true to size. I was disappointed.
Hi Maribel, we appreciate your feedback! We're sorry to hear the fit wasn't what you expected. The M's Lightweight Better Sweater Hoody will be a slim fit. Please know your satisfaction is important to us and we'd be happy to assist with a [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).
Great outdoor zip up with a hood.
Wow. What a nice substantial jacket. It's really not a sweater. I don't know why they call it that. It has some storage, fits well and is really warm. Will make a great layer on cold days. Nice looking by itself and does well alone on warmer days. Get one. You will use it a lot.
Runs smaller than previous years.
I own two of these from previous years, bought a size larger so it would fit looser. Huge fail, it's a full size SMALLER than my previous Better Sweaters.
Thank you for the feedback Gord. The newer version is a much slimmer fit than the previous version of this Hoody. We're always happy to provide garment dimensions in advance, and you're always welcome to return or exchange it.
This is an updated version of the Performance Better Sweater Hoody. I have the previous version in a different color, and its my go to piece of clothing for most occasions. So, I bought the new version in a different color! Its basically a hoodie with the better sweater knit that makes it look a bit nicer. The new version has two zippered chest poc... Read Morekets, instead of one. Otherwise, its more or less the same. Im 58 and 145 lbs. I typically wear a mens small slim fit in most brands. This hoodie has a tight fit, perfect for just a tee shirt underneath but probably too slim for anything more.
It just works....
So...Working from home....playing outside...its the new life...and this hoody rocks it every time. How come I never got one of these sooner ? My next question is...when I return to work in an office...can I wear a tie with this ? Team Patagonia - you need so figure that one out :-)
Super Soft, Runs a Little Small
Ordered for my boyfriend for Christmas in a size Medium. When it arrived it fit a tad bit too small so we exchanged for a Large which was more to his liking as far as fit goes. Likes the hood size, it could easily fit over a helmet. Nice, deep pockets and the jacket overall is well ventilated. He also liked that the jacket was a little tighter at t... Read Morehe bottom and the overall hug to his body. Depending on how tight you like your jackets I can see it being more of a true to size fit. He normally wears medium in everything else (shirts, coats, etc) but on this particular jacket he wanted a little wiggle.
Sizing inconsistent with other Patagonia product
I already wrote a review for the medium-sized better sweater hoodie I purchased. I'm 6'1" and weigh 175 lbs and purchased a medium like I always do for Patagonia tops. It was snug through the torso and too tight in the armpits/shoulders so I exchanged it for a large. When I got the large, it was way too big in the aforementioned plac... Read Morees and everywhere else. I concluded that the "slim fit" doesn't fit me and ended up with the r2 tech hoody instead, which is not slim and is a terrific hoody for mountains and town but nonetheless, was befuddled by the experienced. It's especially challenging in a pandemic when you can't try on your garments and have to return to the store to process exchanges.
Great product, but.....
I love the better sweater family and thought this would be a great lighter weight addition to my other Patagonia products. Unfortunately, it only comes in slim fit which won't work for me so had to return. Really disappointing as I have a need for that product.
Sorry to hear about the disappointing fit of this particular Better Sweater, but we appreciate your feedback Dan! We're always happy to [help](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) with returns or exchanges. Also check out a few pieces that might work for you: Burly Man Hoody, Micro D Jacket or Snap Dry Hoody.
The better sweater hoody light is slimmer than most other Patagona tops. I am 6'1" and weigh around 175 lbs. I have 10 or so jackets, vests and hoodies and always wear a medium. This hoody is described as 'slim fit' online and on the physical tag but not in the size drop-down menu. When it arrived and I tried it on, I discovered... Nice product but sizing is off
This was my first Patagonia purchase. I'm 5'8" and 160 so I'm a medium in about everything. This is a little tight in the arms and chest. I was hoping to be able to wear it like a jacket since it is a hoody, but anything more than a t-shirt underneath and its uncomfortable. If you are usually a medium and do any lifting at all, ... Easily one of the most comfy hoodies I've ever worn
Not much to say here; the form is just relaxed enough to be perfect for people who aren't built like athletes. The stretch fabric sewn into specific panels ads flexibility and breathability. The pockets are perfectly sized and placed. The recycled material mine came in is a hugely aggressive high five with mother nature.
I really like this hoody. Keep in mind that it is not as warm as the standard Better Sweater. These lightweight versions are quite a bit thinner and will not keep you quite as warm. It also does not block any wind at all. However, I get warm easily so this is perfect. It looks awesome and has a great feel to it. It will no doubt pill after continou... Read Mores use, but I don't mind. I wish the elastic cuffs were a bit snugger and stretchier, but it's fine. One thing I noticed with the standard Better Sweater is that it seemed to break in after a while of using it. I am not sure if this will do the same given the stretchy elastic sides, but if it does that would be awesome and would make it even more comfortable. Maybe Patagonia knows the answer to this?
Not up to usual Patagonia standard
The item arrived promptly and is comfortable for the most part. The hoodie is very soft and can be comfortable but there is a lining inside the hood that can get quite uncomfortable when the hood is down and it gets very irritating when worn for long periods of time. The zip is absolutely rubbish and very rarely works for me, it doesn’t seem to be ... Read Morevery good quality and feels as though it is close to breaking whenever I zip it up. The hoodie is quite expensive for its actual quality and is not up to the same standard of other Patagonia items that I own
