Simple Fly Fishing Tenkara Fly Rod 8 6

Great Kid Colorado Starter Rod

Our son does SMBA for months during the summer and those little punks ride around for hours and sometimes stop to fish. With the Tenkara rod, he can dab small Colorado streams with minimal gear and complications to interfere with the fun and learning to angle. It's given him a chance to be responsible for basic set-up and operation on his own ... Read Morewithout the added complication of a reel. And it's light and small so it fits in his hydration pack.

Not great but not terrible

Having used it enough now I feel like I can give it an honest review. I bought this with the want to get into tenkara and didn't know muc about it. I fly fish daily and I wanted something that I could just throw in a bag and take it everywhere. I bought this rod with the line recommended by Patagonia. My first time out was a pretty bad experie... Read Morence. The info given by Patagonia isn't the greatest as far as setup. The lengths of line recommended were way to long in my opinion. I felt casting performance and accuracy are something this rod lacks. I am no expert but this thing takes a lot of effort to get where you want it to go. The build quality is not what I expected. At first it seems well built but after about 6 small stream trout I can't get the rod sections to stay extended unless I set them so tight that it is near impossible to close. Today I thought I was going to break the rod trying to pack it up. The cork is pretty low grade, and the line holder is really just ends up getting in the way. The lack of hard case for the price is ridiculous and kind of defeats the purpose to me of being able to take it everywhere. I am afraid it will break in the cheap felt rod bag. Now does it work? Yes,I have had some nice 4-12" trout from some small streams in the Catskills. I have also had the chance to handle some competitors tenkara rods. If I could I would return this product hands down and go with just about any other tenkara rod. This is very overpriced and you can get better for less.

Well made product

This is a great way to get into Tenkara. Well thought out, with line holder incorporated into the design of the rod itself. Rod holder is also very nice. Only regret- I wish it came with a Rod Case.
