Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Great pant, wish they were still made in long size
I love these pants for backpacking, wet wading, and putting on the miles hiking. They are supper durable, light weight, dry quick, wear well when wet, and have great stretch. Men's Quandary Hiking Pants
Excellent garment for me. Comfortable, light, airy, perfect fit, my wife said they good on me. I bought 2 pairs then another after wearing them. I've owned them for about a month so I can't coment on durability yet. also purchased and love Tropic Comfort Natural UPF Hoody. Soft & comfy.
I can wear these pants wet wading while fishing, or hiking as well as for out for dinner. Light weight and very comfortable, quick drying. If they get muddy when wearing them fishing or hiking they quickly dry and I'll brush the mud and grime off easily then walk into most any restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Bought 3 pair over a short time period been wearing them a couple of spring/summer seasons. Best all around field pants for spring/summer. Great for bike riding as well. One pair ran a bit large but other two exact same and true to size.

These are truly the perfect pants. I wear them to work, out at night and on the hiking trail. They transition flawlessly. I have them in Gray, Khaki and Green. They are absolutely the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. Durable, flexible and professional.
I have found these to be really comfortable and they have become my go to work pants. They could be just a tiny bit larger, but they do stretch. The side pocket could be just a little bit bigger to make it easier to zip up with my cell phone in it. I now own 6 pairs of these and am very happy with them.
Didn't quite realize how functional the Quandary pants would be! Definitely comfortable to wear and stays on well even without a belt. Has made this pant great for car travel--especially in the mountains. Kind of made my travel packing easier since these things tick a lot of boxes.
Light to pack and stands up to pretty harsh weather!
Had them for 2 months for travelling in Japan. Fit is great with ample room for movement and very breathable. Been in a couple rainy/slushy hail situations with them on and it managed to keep me dry. Exceeded expectations.

Lightweight and comfortable. Surprisingly warm for fatbiking with a base layer
The pants are very lightweight and comfortable. Fit is spot on. I like the zipper pockets too
I have another pair of these and like them very much, however, you don't make a 34 inch length anymore, so your regular length was too short, and I had to return them. I am only 5ft 10, so wonder what taller folks think. When you bring back the longer version, I will gladly buy another pair.

I wear my old Quandary pants almost every day - super comfortable. Just ordered then new ones. The new fit is not as relaxed as the old cut, unfortunately: they hug my calves. Not uncomfortable, but not as comfortable. If you have muscular legs, you might find the fit a bit tight. I'm hoping the nylon will relax a little over time.
Patagonia makes these model of pants for women but they are low rise and I wanted high-rise hiking pants so I tried these to see how they fit. They look great on me, they go up my belly button, and they have a string inside to tighten the waist. They are super comfortable, and protect me from cold winds. I love them!
Ordered a 32 - Regular and they are a pretty slim fit despite the regular fit listing. I fit fine into my 32" Hydropeak Hybrid Walk Shorts which are listed as slim fit. If you have larger glutes or wear athletic fit in other pants the Cliffside trail pants have more room and are more regular/relaxed fit.
We appreciate your detailed and thoughtful feedback on fit and sizing. We're sorry these Quandary Pants were a disappointment and we recommend a return for those. Thanks for the review, Robert!

Pockets. Currently this model has two front standard hip pockets and a coin (or for me AirPods) pocket, one zipped pocked on the right leg and backside pockets, zipped on the left and open on the right.
I'd love to see a zipped leg pocket on the left to balance the symmetry. I personally don't understand why there's no pocket there. Pocket symmetry for me is important otherwise I notice the imbalance one side to the other, when loading them; as well as having the extra storage space.
I don't load the pockets with lots of kit but having more pockets allows for better separation.
All the pockets could do with being around an inch deeper. They are not quite deep enough to stop accidental contents 'pop out' when sitting down, this includes the coin pocket. It's not bad but it does happen.
Aside from those points these are awesome trousers that most of the time you forget you're actually wearing.
Regardless of the small tweaks that make me give 4 starts, I still own quite a few pairs of these trousers

The waist is so loose that I need to wear a belt, but the thighs are so tight that it's awkward walking around, so me sizing up just wouldn't work out. Great pair of pants
I love the fit and feel of these pants. I purchased another pair and am thinking about purchasing a third pair before the Spring. They have been excellent for travel and everyday wear.

I'm 5'9"; 170lbs. I purchased a size 34. Fit is perfect. Workmanship is stellar. It's Patagonia... I'd expect nothing less. Extremely comfortable. A welcome change to bluejeans. My one complaint... they don't come in more colors.
Love these pants, very versatile. I use them to instruct outdoor classes with a polo shirt to look 'business casual' but they're also great for getting out into the field when I need to. Highly recommend!
Im am 6 2 tall and normally wear a 32/36 in Jeans. I was able to find a great fit in the 33 regular size of these pants. It translated to 33/32 on the size chart but is long enough to not look like Im avoiding a flood. The stay at the top of my boots even when doing a captain Morgan pose because they are so stretchy. These things are great, give em... Read More a shot. Worth the money.
Long distance thru hiker, never going with-out my Patagonia Quandary pants and shorts. Light weight, durable, quick dry. I really like the waist tie, no belt getting in the way of my packs waist belt on those long days.

Trail name ; Crazy Eyes, because I don't blink when my picture is taken.
These pants are comfortable (two-way stretch), well constructed, and lightweight. I like that the front waist button is low profiled, so not a problem under a hip belt. For rear pockets; one zippered, one open is nice.
These quandary pants are one of the best menswear garments to have. Thoughtful design details around the pockets, well-proportioned fit, somehow perfectly adventurous and yet minimalist at the same time. And theyre so light and versatile. If I had to live on one pair of pants it would probably be these.
Just returned from putting these pants through the ringer at the Grand Canyon. A week of running, hiking, cycling and mule riding pushed these to the test and they delivered every time! Pockets are perfect, and pants move with me offering comfort and breathability regardless of activity. Despite a couple tumbles, no tears or rips; sting and super c... Read Moreomfortable.
Extremely comfortable, used for travel - perfect. You feel like wearing nothing on the plane. Keep you warm when it's windy and fresh, keep you cool when it's warm, keep you dry when it's drizzle. Look dressy enough for most of the occasions and comfortable enough for any activity. Have plenty of pockets properly placed.
I typically wear a 34 waist but as we know, manufacturers dont want us American Fatties to feel too big! A 35 fit better as Patagonia seems to have a true to fit size. Im glad I tried several sizes in the store first. After washing I did not notice any shrinkage whatsoever. I will wear these for years to come until they completely come undonethey a... Read Morere that comfortable. Remember, for quality one pays a bit more. Can you really put a price on satisfaction?
I ordered a 35 waist and when I received it, it was too tight. Your return was super easy and I got a 36 which was just right. Quality was great as always
I usually size 32, but ordered 34, in case it shrinks. I was right!
Out of the package it was very big, but after washing it shrank down to 32(1/2). So go up one side. Fpr some reason, Patagonia sizing (pants, shirts, jacket) are a gamble these days
I have been wearing Quandary pants for years, and the ability to choose discrete sizes helps a lot! My only complaint is that I"ve never seen any other colors than the three. What about a nice deep blue or a light grey?
I used this pants for summer hikes and casual wear /travelling in warm weather. It is super comfortable and very light protecting you well from sun and other elements. At the same time, it is a stylish pants that I like to use in day-to-day casual wear. Would also recommend for use in desert hiking as it was perfect for that occasion in my opinion.... Read More
Its all I want to wear. Now I have four pairs in different colors. I guess the strongest feature is they are non binding, allowing full range of motion when active. The fabric is too light for winter so I wear a base layer to make it work. Great looking too.
I used it for working in the office and going just about anywhere. I love its two large zippered pockets, one on the leg one on the back. They're both large enough to accommodate a new iPhone 13 Pro Max without feeling bulky. This pant's stretch material and tight cut make it comfortable and good-looking. I only wish Patagonia could exten... Read Mored its "short" length to all its available colors.
I have been wearing Quandaries for years. I'm 5'6" and 150# and the 32 W w/"short" inseam fits well. They are neither too tight nor too loose and the cloth has the right amount of stretch while still being durable. Their look (including the color choices) and features make them ideal for both work and casual wear and they a... Read Morere more comfortable than a pair of jeans. They have been easy to wash and dry when traveling. I wear them daily and use the zippered pocket on the right front leg for my cell phone. Similar items are offered by other companies but lack Quandary's features and good fit.
Love the quality, and durability of these pants. Although the elastic waistband has given me a hard time. After the first wash, it got twisted up and almost ripped out of the pants. Ive had no problem with the one in my strider pro shorts though. All in all great quality as always Patagonia!
Comfortable and lightweight hiking pants that look good enough to wear casually around town. The only thing I dont like is the built in belt. I like the idea but the belt is just a 1/4 inch piece of elastic that doesnt actually do anything to keep your pants up. I cut it out because it just gets in my way when I zip the fly or fasten the button. Ot... Read Moreherwise the quality is excellent just like I would expect from Patagonia. I do like the little bit of stretch in these pants. I have even done yoga in these pants so they do allow for full range of motion. Already bought a second pair.
No options for taller, athletic builds? Come on Patagonia, you can do better.
These are a decent pant but are let down by Patagonia not offering sizes for tall, athletic builds. I am 6'2" tall and weight 168 pounds. The 32" waist fit just fine but the regular length are high water pants on me. For a company that makes gear for active people you would think they would offer sizes for tall, athletic builds.
Hi Mark, thank you for sharing your feedback, and your request for a longer length. No doubt other customers will benefit from your experience. We have offered a long length in the Men's Quandary Hiking Pants in the past, and perhaps we can do so again in the future. We're sharing your thoughts with our team.
Ive tried several different pants looking for one that is comfortable to wear on a long airplane trip, hike 10 miles, and be nice enough to wear on a casual day at work. Quandry fits this better than any other Ive found. Fabric isnt too thick or restrictive, very versatile. After wearing a pair for a year or so I bought another pair in a different ... Read Morecolor. Nice close replica of a Patagonia standard I've worn and relief upon for years
Nice close replica of a Patagonia standard I've worn and relief upon for years. Unfortunately this one ran long in the legs. Waist is fine. Needs to be hemmed.

Work or play
After having read reviews, I feared a fight fit. NO. These pants fit me perfectly. My go to pants/ they do run large through the legs
Love these pants. I have them in grey. They look good enough to go to work but really shine on the trails. Stretch well to accommodate tough terrain. Really comfortable and the fabric feels good against the skin. Like I said before they do run a bit big through the legs. They stretched a bit when I got them in size 36. They became too baggy. When I... Read More got them them in 34 they waist was still good I didnt have to adjust them so much with the drawstring and the legs stretched a bit to feel relaxed through the leg. They are not tapered but rather relaxed. Which is good for the trail. But they do look great for work. I used them all the time. You cant go wrong with these pants.
I wore these during my recent R2R2R hike. Very light weight and dried quickly. The built in draw string was crucial as the day went on and the fabric started to stretch and sag with 46+ miles of movement. Would have loved a 33L but finding the longer version was like finding a unicorn. Overall, great pant for short or longer hikes.
Love these! I am a 32 waist, but with my ostomy, and that Pat generally runs small, a 34 is perfect, especially with the adjustable elastic waist lines. Went on a day long hike and loved the way the pants adjusted and moved with my legs regardless of terrain. Wx was windy, but didnt feel the chill at all. Definitely recommend.
Hopefully we can offer a longer length in the future. Don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team if you ever want product recommendations, specific measurements, or [help](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) to return or exchange. Thanks for your review, Henry!

Bring back the long!
I love these pants. I wear them everywhere from hiking to work. Just need them offered in long again. Please, please please!
Have owned a few pairs of quandary pants for years. Patagonia provides great quality at a fair price, backed by an ethically minded company. I will continue to come back to these.
I like designs that are simple yet functional and find the small zippered pocket on the right upper thigh to be extraneous and of no use; the other pockets work just fine. The fit is perfect and the material is quite light and perfect for warm weather. Thanks
I have been wearing Patagonia for over 25 years, and some of those items I have had that long! I generally struggle to find pants that are snug enough in the waist while leaving enough room through the thighs (I am 5'8" and a little over 150 lbs.) I often have to go with a 32" dress pant, but I found the 30" waist was perfect. M... Read Morey only issue is that I didn't realize that the standard 30" waist is a 32" inseam so these are a little long. If 30x30 had been an easy option to select, that is what I would have done.

Light and Breathable
I can't say enough good things about the quandary line of pants, i have them in 3 colors and wear them the majority of the week. They are light and breathable but still comfortable down to 40 degrees.
This was my second pair and I'm buying another. I wear them as my daily casual pants as well for any outdoor activity. They're very comfortable and look really presentable too. I don't know what the material is but it definitely doesn't wrinkle easily so the pants look good even after some activity. Definitely recommend these pa... Read Morents to anyone.
