Protect the ocean so it can protect us

Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Love almost everything about these ...

... except the fit, which runs almost uncomfortably small on me. I'm a Large in every other Patagoni short and pair of pants I've tried, but these - especially the liner - feel half a size too small., and sizing up to an XL makes the feel too baggy. Maybe It's just my dimensions, since everyone else seem to think they're true to... Read More size. I really like them and will keep them. But my search for the perfect pair of Patagonia shorts continues!

Hello Jay, thank you for your review of the Men's Strider Pro Shorts. We are sorry that the fit wasn't what you were expecting. We appreciate this feedback as its how we improve things for future seasons. This Spring 2023, we updated this model with a more stretch, but your feedback helps us learn what's working and what's not!

Fit has improved, pockets are smaller

These are the only running shorts I wear and I have six pairs that span 5 or so years. Patagonia addressed the tight fit in the liner but the pockets are now smaller. These are still my favorite shorts but its difficult getting an iPhone without a case in and out of the pockets. Still my favorite running shorts.

Perfect

Wore them two days on the trot, 20 mile run followed by 14 mile run, straight out of the bag, spot on.

October 27, 2023

Light and flattering

The light fabric of these shorts make them ideal for running, leg training, hiking, or other physical activities involving heavy leg movement. Their fit accentuates body features - if you have strong or muscular legs you'll love these shorts. Thanks so much for sending us a review, Jose! When you check the sizing of a product, be sure to look at the fit notes. For instance our Baggies have a roomy relaxed fit design, whereas our Strider Pro Shorts have a more moderate regular fit, and a style like the Terrebonne Short has a slim fit. Please reach out to our [Customer Service](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) team if you have any questions. We'll be glad to help!

Back to form!

I'm glad to report that the issues with the liner fit and material choices in previous iterations have been resolved, making them my favorite again. It's always great when a product's problems are addressed and improved. Enjoy your runs in comfort once again!

Fit well, good for running

Best running shorts

Thesew are some of the best running shorts I have ever own. The material is nice a smooth and does not cause irritation. I am 6.2 and 190. I ordered a large which are true to its size. A+ for me!

Favorite running and workout shorts

I love everything about these shorts. I own three pairs now because of their comfort. I like how comfortable they feel around the waist. They are secure but soft at the waist. They do not get in the way of my workouts and have enough storage for my phone, wallet, and keys.

Favorite running shorts

Usually hate lined running shorts but these have turned into my favorite go to. The fabric is great and doesnt cause chafing.

It's my go to running short.

I do road running and trail running. I coordinate a running group for a running store and need to keep things with me on the run. The pockets are great and hold my full sized iphone, keys, nutrition and have room to stuff whatever else I need. I put my phone in the hip pocket and it doesn't bounce around. The quality is high. I wear these unti... Read Morel they wear out and buy a new pair to replace them. I've gotten at least 3 years of 3 season running in these shorts before they start to show wear. I wear 36 waist pants and the L fits well. To those who complain about the brief liner of the shorts, just stop. I've worn iterations of this short for 7 years. Patagonia has tweaked the liner several times, I'll say this-it keeps you centered, the liner is supportive but has enough give to it so it's not restrictive.

Super comfortable shorts

I love these. Use them for hiking and when I come across swim water I swim in them. Works perfectly. The fabric feels soft, and the pockets are very handy. Read Morebit but because of the elastics in the fabric, it stays firmly in place while exercising. I honestly bought two more after having tried on the first. I guess no one will believe me, but I am a normal consumer (no bot or someone paid to write this) from Amsterdam who loves these shorts. By the way, they are not good if you want to bike. They’re too short for that in my opinion. Tried it in the gym a few times but my legs keep brushing against eachother too much and that was not comfortable. But for hiking or doing other sports these will be my first pick for the years to come.

Fantastic

Great! The liner is much more comfortable than my older strider shorts. Much more comfortable for running and lifting.

Best Workout Shorts

I found a pair of these months ago at a Warehouse Sale and fell in love with them. Love the overall cut of the shorts but the liner offers little to no support which is unfortunate which makes them unwearable. Bought two pairs a few months ago.

The only shorts I wanna run in

I was a bit hedgy: these are geared toward the long-haulers and ultra set. I am not them. I am more than happy to bang out 5k-10k runs and 4-5 mile trail runs. But man, these are the greatest shorts I have ever run in. Yes, as noted, the ahem, up-front capacity has varied over the years (I have two older pairs) but it isn't so bad that I would... Read Moren't still say these are the bomb. Its the multiple pockets that really make these next-level gear. Just big enough for a phone, snacks, keys, and I have tried cramming a Houdini shell in there too. Barely. While I am no ultra-running pro, these are the shorts for me. I justify the cost by knowing I am buying five years worth of shorts.

My favorite shorts to wear

My favorite shorts to wear while fly fishing and wet wading in summer. Won't impair movement when scrambling over rocks and they dry quickly after deep river crossings.

Do I have Shorts on?

These are my go-to running shorts, on track or out in the wild. So light and comfortable, I almost don't notice that I have shorts on. On warmer days I go without undies. Updated fit and liner!

Have multiple versions of the Strider Pro's, and these are the best I've worn from a fit and materials perspective. Plenty of room in the crotch, stretchy to prevent chafing and very comfortable lining material. The only ask would be to review side pocket accessibility, as these are a bit more challenging to access during a run.

Soggy Bottom Shorts

Let me first say that I love these shorts, have two pairs of them and have worn them for both ultras and daily runs. I do however have one complaint and can give them only 4 stars. The way the liner extends up just barely above the outer fabric of the short causes sweat to channel down into the liner rather than being wicked by the entirety of the ... Read Moreshort. I'll often find the front of the shorts nearly dry while the seat is completely saturated and dripping sweat. This leaves me with an awkward soggy bottom feeling on long hot runs. Maybe just save these for the cooler days when sweat isn't such an issue.

Super comfy running shorts...although maybe not so durable

I love the fit and liner of these shorts. I ran a mountain 100 mile in one pair of these shorts comfortably with no chafing due to the softness of the liner. The pockets around the waist are also quite nice. However I find the fabric the shorts are made out of to not be very durable, they seem to get holes in them far easier than shorts from other ... These are IT -- Finally!

I have several generations of Strider Pro's in my drawer... they've always been my go-to running shorts for many years, and I generally use them for honestly anything. They are quick drying so great for swimming, hiking, you name it. In the previous generation my main complaint was the tightness of the liner. I had to cut it out as they w... For me, these are finally a perfect fit and I could put endless miles on them without any thought... exactly what I want in a pair of running shorts.

Improved stretch and comfort

Just upgraded to this years 5inch Mediums and love them. My big quads and slightly bigger belly fit great in size Medium (5ft7in; 31waist; 30inseam). The stretch of the material, outer and inner liner feels great on long hot n humid runs. No chafe and easy access for oeevreaks during ultras. Fabric is soft and light.

The back waist pocket is slightly shaken. If it is possible to change the current 1 1/8 "elastic" to 1 3/8 "running it should be more comfortable. I hope the Tech team will consider it.

A better Strider Pro

My favorite version of these shorts are from 2017, and this latest version has gotten closer to those. Noticeable improvement from the previous model

The Strider Pro short has always been my go-to short for trail runs and ultras. I loved the previous model, but always felt the fit was a little off in the crotch area. They were a very small fitting medium. These new shorts fit better, are softer, and still retain the pockets and storage that I love. I don't want to be thinking about my short... Read Mores 20 miles into a 50 miler. The softness does seem to come at the price of fabric thickness, so how well these hold up remains to be seen. Great shorts.

Excellent Fit

In my opinion, the best Patagonia has ever done on a running short. I just went in store and bought a 3rd pair today. I like the version of liner Patagonia has done on these, and the overall look of the short is flattering. I am not a pocket user so I can't comment on the back zip, other than to does seem small. Highly recommend.

The best shorts ever

I own three pairs and wear them all the time. I bought a larger size (L vs. M) because I also use them to wear around town. They are the best! Just did my first 100K in them - so comfy!

latest version of this short

This is the newest version of the short. I've purchased this short for probs the past 10 years. The fit seems looser and the material had def. changed. It's stretchier now and seems less substantial. I was a big fan of the previous versions. Not a big fan of this one.

Thanks for your feedback, Guillermo. We have made some design changes to these shorts for Spring '23. Here is a list of all the changes: - The main fabric was a 1.9-oz 100% recycled polyester stretch ripstop with a DWR finish, and is now 2.5-oz 90% Prevented Ocean Plastic recycled polyester /10% spandex plain weave with four-way stretch and a PFC-free DWR finish. - The liner fabric was a 2.7-oz 100% polyester (42% recycled) crepe with HeiQ and is now 2.3-oz 100% recycled polyester double knit with miDori bioSoft and HeiQ. - The fabric now has more stretch. We're sorry to hear you're not a fan of these changes and prefer the older style. We'll share your thoughts with our product team for future consideration. Best running shorts money can buy

The Strider Pro's are the best running shorts out there. The new updated fabric is stretchy and buttery soft. A good product gone bad

I owned three pairs of the older model of these shorts (purchased sometime in early 2022). They are by far the best running short I have ever worn.
