Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation

Our relationship with nature not only defines our history, it shapes our future, too. Yet beneath the surface of Iceland’s fjords, an industrial fish farming method threatens to destroy one of Europe’s last remaining wildernesses. Laxaþjóð | A Salmon Nation tells the story of a country united by its lands and waters, and the power of a community to protect the wild places and animals that helped forge its identity.

“As a mom, you have no book that tells you the right way to take care of your kids through bad times,” says Bonnie Elozory, mother of four.

For seven years, the Elozory family weathered a relentless streak of bad luck. With no instructions on how to pull her family out of the muck, Bonnie got creative. When her husband nudged Bonnie to rekindle her dream to hike the Appalachian Trail, Bonnie latched on to the idea. And decided to take the kids.

“Oh my gosh,” Bonnie remembers thinking, “this is going to save our lives.”

For more from Bonnie, check out her blog from the trail.
