A good, warm fleece that is now my go to jacket. It is also perfect for layering under a hard shell when it gets wet. Grabbing this and my Torrentshell jacket makes me prepared for anything.
I chose a size XL and sizing is spot-on. I usually downsize to a large on most Patagonia jackets.
I'm 6-0. 205#. My chest measurement is about 23-24 inches across. It fits me perfect and it's not a bulky fleece jacket which is what I'm looking for. So far no complaints.
I have purchased a few of these sweaters. The quality and feel is above and beyond other competitors so called better sweater. Dont waste time with them! BUY PATAGONIA!!!
I own 3 patagonia's sweaters and I love them they are the best!!!! Quality speaking cannot be beaten by any brand... With that being said... 6'1", 205lbs. I generally wear a medium for patagonia tops, couldn't even get my arms into the medium. Got a large and it fits beautifully. I run a bit warm at baseline, this will work as a solo layer for t>40f or paired with a vest for 30f
I purchased this sweater for my son for the second time. He has a long walk across the parking lot into work each day, starting at 6:30 am and it gets mighty cold in Idaho. This is his favorite sweater and I hope you keep it in stock because I will probably want to buy it again! Thank you Patagonia.
I love these sweaters but man do they pull. You would think for 155 dollars they would figure out a way to not have this be an issue. Other than that it fits great and looks great. I have 3 of these but the black one seems to be the most noticeable with the pilling.

Well Made but Sizing Difficult
Its a nice sweater but the sizing is weird. The medium was ridiculously tight and the large too large. The bottom is not tapered so it allows cold air to get in underneath
I have 3 of the Better Sweater style vests. Love them and wanted one with sleeves. As a larger man I do not like pullovers and wanted the zip up. More importantly are the sleeves which I found to be way too tight. This I assure you was not due to the muscular size of my arms. The sleeves make it hard to get on over layered clothing. I would not trade the sweater for another brand and love the quality .
This is my first ever purchase from Patagonia. Very well made, paying attention to minute details. Very happy and satisfied. For sure gonna be a returning customer. So glad I bought it. If you want something casual on a pair of jeans, its a no brainer. Just get it. Thank Patagonia for such a quality product.
These two words sum it up. Great style and true to fit. Love the chest zip pocket. I wear this for going on walks, running errands our outside playing with my kids. Love it!
I have this sweater and a few vests and they are my go to when the weather is cool. I can throw it on with dress pants at the office or with jeans on my days off.
The fleece jacket/sweater looks great and fits perfectly. It is new and so I have no feedback to give as yet about how it wears or launders. A 5-star start!
I find the fit on these jackets to be way off. It is supposed to be a regular fit not a slim fit. Well its the slimmest regular fit ever. I ordered both a M and a L as I often fit in one or the other. I started with the L and it was too small so I didnt even get the M out of the package. I returned both. Im 59, 185.

Great jacket
This jacket is great for everyday wear and plenty warm for KY winters. Looks nice as business casual or with jeans. Fits well, not too snug or loose:
I have a lot of jackets that act as shells and then I have my massive coat. But I was looking for a think lightweight warm jacket, and oh boy did I find it. The size was perfect and quality is perfection.
I live in the Minneapolis area and I wear this every day. When it gets cold inside, this is my go-to for staying warm. For especially cold winter weather, it works as a base layer. Good Looks and Warm
Best looking fleece jacket striking a perfect balance between work and casual situations. I looked through nearly 100 before choosing this one. My body dimensions match size medium dimensions across the size chart. The size medium jacket fits me great which is surprising as I was expecting the waist to be oversized after a previous Patagonia jacket... Read More purchase years back. I heard they adjusted the size of these a bit ago which is good for me considering they don't have an adjustable drawcord hem. The size would allow for a shirt and mid-warmth sweater to be layered underneath. The chest pocket fits a phone, hand pockets are warm. Jacket overall is warm but I wear polos to work so I'd prefer it to be a bit warmer and more wind resistant with perhaps a secondary layer of thin, dense fabric inside. An adjustable hem would probably benefit some people with multi-sized dimensions. New navy is a solid color especially with the heathered look.
I've had the jacket for 10 months now so am able to write with reasonable experience. Within weeks the fabric started pilling at the collar, but now is very unsightly. The fit is snug yet comfortable.
To put this all into context: I've been a Patagonia customer since 1993, and about 60% of all my shirts & T-Shirts are from them over the years just are a fair few fleeces. For example, my 1995 Synchilla fleece is still going strong with no pilling at all. I'm now going to give this piece of pilling away to charity and will try their new Synchilla jacket in the hope that the fabric isn't as bad.
Im 58 and I have a muscular build, I initially ordered a small because under the pictures it stated that the model was 62. Im no pro body builder but it was very tight on me. The medium fits me much better I honestly could see the large fitting comfortably as well.
This recycled better sweater jacket fits great, provides great warmth, and is well tailored. The weight is a bit more than anticipated and you can certainly feel you have it on...like a sweater rather than a light-weight synthetic.

Poor Quality
Huge fan of Patagonia. But this piece does not live up to Patagonias reputation. The pilling is do bad people ask me whats wrong with my jacket. Amazing
Beautiful fleece! Definitely worth every penny! Highly recommend
This is my go-to for something to put on no matter where I'm going. Great fit, soft, subtle color. My only complaint is that the chest pocket zipper is shot and the main zipper is failing. Admittedly, I bought this in 2018, but I don't know how to replace zippers so it might be getting retired soon, unfortunately.
I have three of them in different colors. They're the ideal business casual day-to-night Pacific NW accessory. Ideal number of pockets and not too warm or too cool.
I'm 5'9" and always order large jackets/fleeces, etc. from Patagonia. Until this one, they fit perfectly. This sweater/jacket is unusually long and I can't figure out why. I have owned the jacket for five months. I really like the fit and color of the jacket. Unfortunately the outer surface of the fabric is now rough with pills. A soft roughness like an old teddy bear. The arms have deep creases and washing won't remove the creases. Which is strange. Not at all what I was expecting in a Patagonia jacket.
Hey David, thanks for the feedback about the pilling on your jacket. This is something that is unfortunately common, and inevitable, with knit garments due to the nature of those fibers. Hi Nick, thanks for taking the time to write us a review! We're truly sorry to hear that your Better Sweater has pilled so badly after such little time. To prevent pilling we typically recommend washing the jacket on warm and laying it flat to dry. With that said, if this doesn't help you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return).
Important piece for everyday wardrobe, it’ll keep you warm and snug when needed. Plenty of pockets, great for commuting with all small pieces you might need.
Happy with the full-length zipper version of this sweater. It is comfortable, the tight-knit fleece performs well, and I like the color pattern. I'm 5'10" 175 lbs and a Medium may have been better fitting (but the Large works fine, just a little long).
I like almost everything about this. It's quite warm, looks good, and is well made. It's geared towards casual, non-active uses since it's pretty heavy and doesn't breath too well. But for static use it's terrific.

For reference, I’m 6’2” and 170lb with a slim build.
Great Product, however what I noticed with the Better sweater as well as the Better Vest is the chest pocket's develop holes in them. It was easy to repair myself but it was annoying have small items (chapstick) getting stuck in the linings of the sweater. Other than that this is a great product that fits my frame well. My husband was surprized, and delighted to recieve the Black, Sweater Jacket for Christmas! We have given these jackets as gifts to both of our Sons for past Christmases. Also to our Nephew. for a H.S. graduation gift. Wonderful gifts, which have been worn for years!
I already own two other jackets in different colors. I love the upper zipper pocket for my passport when going through airport security around the world. In Southern California, the perfect jacket for layering when temperatures drop below 70 degrees.

My husband already had the Better Sweater Fleece Jacket in Black that he seriously wears everyday. We just got him another one in Stonewash. It is a really nice grey color. Great quality and the fit is perfect. He couldn't be happier!
I’ve had a black one for years that is just starting to pill a bit. It is trim cut and fits well under a down sweater. With a base layer this handles everything 20F and above. It’s just a little long for my body type.
I have several better sweaters, and I absolutely love them. The full-zip provides awesome temp control and they look classy enough to wear to your families christmas party and casual enough that you don't upset your aunt by "overdoing it this year." I love these things!
I really really want to live these as I recently bought both New navy and Stonewash colors but the sleeves are really really tight for my arms.
It feels great and keeps me warm when it is cold outside but lets the wind through.
I purchased M size but maybe I should've gotten a L for better blood circulation on my arms.

However, as you wear the jacket, the fleece will gradually pack down and the jacket will feel more relaxed in fit. The arms could be alittle
The arms could be alittle bit bigger. Not longer but roomier. I workout and have bulky biceps. Its feels too fitted. Also after one wash it shrinks. Maybe you can preshrink before selling them? Or just have another version for bulkier people. Not everybody has a slim model like figure.

I'm 5'10", 155lbs, and I bought the Small. It fits perfectly. Not something to layer over more than a thin single layer. If you want to wear it as more of a jacket, size up. I found it warmer than I expected, but not too thick or hot. Ideal as a mid-layer with coats/jackets or just a cozy top layer on those 50+ degree days.
I have a few of these now that I wear almost daily in the fall and winter. Nice warm yet breathable. It's uncommon for me to find a sweater that fits my sleeve length, I love that the sleeves are slightly longer than most others.
Nice coat-like sweater. Good neck warmth. Fit is sl. large but very acceptable. It took a lot of rain exposure to get me wet, but I stayed warm. Live in the NW where wet is common. A good layer under a raincoat.
This one is a Christmas gift but I brought another one for my son in Italy 2 years ago. He says its great. He lives in the Seattle area and this keeps him warm all through the winter. He really likes the pockets. Been washed several times and no pilling.
This sweater is essentially a Patagonia must have. I wear it frequently and it is incredibly comfortable. I would recommend wearing a windproof jacket over the sweater if you decide to wear it on a blustery day.

Got this jacket for casual wear, not for serious outdoor pursuits. Understated style works well for that purpose because it doesn't look as teched out as some other fleece jackets.
Can’t go wrong with better sweaters. They’ve been proven. Sleeves are a bit slimmer in this model than some of my other Patagonia gear like the quilted snap sweater.
I ordered a small and the length is a tad bit short (hits about mid pocket on my pants, ideally I’d like it to hit the bottom of the pocket). Small issues, otherwise I love it.
Love the better sweater full zip. Warm, moves with you and is not too bulky. Cleaner drape than the R2’s although I am a huge fan of the R2 as well, the Better sweater is more of a sweater than a jacket, which I guess is precisely the point!
Great color and great functionality. This sweater is very warm and is great for staying warm while you are moving outside. I'm 6'0" and 165 lbs and a medium fits me well. The material is very soft and the zipper works great.
The jacket is very warm. It is soft on the inside and fits me very well. It also is very stylish absolutely love everything about the Patagonia brand and what they stand for
Large is too big and the medium is right through arms and shoulders. I’m a large with everyone else but struggle with a Patagonia medium. Love the jacket though.
A must have for the fall / winter months for around the house and outdoors. Well done! Like the weight of the fleece and liner. I know this one will last....
It’s tough finding an XS-anything that fits well and isn’t too big. The Better Sweater Jacket fits true to size and looks amazing! I love the navy blue color, too. I’m able to wear this to the office or dress it down and wear it when I go out during the evening.
After having owned and loved this product for years, I have recently introduced my husband to it. He is SOLD! This is the perfect multi season sweater/jacket. Great for colder days 30 plus degrees 0 Celsius. Fit is very comfortable and material is pretty thick. A medium fit perfect as I’m 5”11 and about 150Lbs.
One word: Cozy. Looks great. Love the color (I got the green). I have a few BS, but this is my first in the full zip jacket-form. I like it better than the pullovers. On my Xmas list for sure.
This is jacket is very comfortable and cozy but I feel the sizing chart was inaccurate. I’m 6’0 tall and 160 pounds and the medium I purchased runs a tiny bit big. Overall, great quality!
Quality and look of the jacket are perfect, I mean, that’s why I bought it! But I really hoped it would have more of an athletic fit. Maybe if I planned on wearing a hoodie underneath?
Had I been in-store I’d have never have bought it. I bought it online and hoped for the best.

Perfect
I bought this for my Dandy 95 year old Dad- he loves it and looks so great in it. He's on the small side 5'4 and about 120 lbs. He got a medium so he could wear layers under it. It's perfect!
I just bought the men’s because I like things to go down to the bottom of my butt, and to give me some arm room for sweaters and stuff. Fits great and so toasty!
Warm, fits great, use on the trail or can wear in the office
This is my second Better Sweater Jacket. I commute by bike so sometimes have doubles of go to items that I leave at work. I can wear this jacket around a chilly office or use as a mid-layer on the trail.
Excellent jacket, worth the price. Compared to the Columbia fleece jacket, this seems to be a much higher quality. The fleece in the pockets doesn't catch on my hands the way the Columbia did.
Great jacket, very comfortable. Not as 'fitted' in the midsection and around waist, so feels like it runs a little large. Returning / exchanging for a medium.
Only problem is that I will be returning it because it is too heavy and warm for where I live - southwest Florida. It’s well made as expected but I just can’t see getting enough use out of it. Thought it would be good lot take on trips when going to a colder climate and it would be but it’s a little too bulky to pack in my luggage.
Been wearing Patiginonia for 30+ years. I have a closet full of favorites. But the sleeve length on these two “same size” garments was a good 1 1/2” short.
This jacket will get more use than any other item I own. It is comfortable, stylish, and most importantly, effective. This company knows what they are doing.
The sleeves are built for someone with extremely long arms and I’m still confused that they came with a M sized sweater. Returning was not an option as the size and color was already sold out.
Hello Adrian! We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with this item. Please note that you are always welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return) to a Patagonia owned retail store or send it in at any point for a refund or credit.

Awesome sweater
Looks very professional, I wear it to the office and look like a VC guy lol. It has high collar that matches well with a shirt.
However, keep in mind it is pretty warm (as it has fleece / polar under) so can get sweaty unless your office sets AC to less then 70.
This is the PERFECT jacket to wear indoors if you are a little chilly or to layer with a wind breaker when you go outside. Only complaint is that other fleeces I own from Patagonia (synchilla) are all much better at breaking the wind. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking to layer this with other jackets.
fits great! Since most Patagonia gear is slim fit, this one has a bit of room to move.
Rock solid zipper and pockets. can't wait have autumn campfires, and to layer up with it when the temps are -5F.

Overall great product.
Would prefer to have a slim fit version for men, with more taper towards the waist. Sleeves are slightly long for me but workable.

Sweater for my husband
This is the 3rd sweater for my husband and he loves it. Comfortable and long lasting. Great product.
Awesome jacket. This is my go to when I need something comfortable and warm. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the fit in the forearms. Too tight to fit a long sleeve shirt under it. Fits great everywhere else.
The better Sweater Jacket is my daily driver. It's the super comfortable medium warmth top that I can wear seamlessly inside my office and outside in the field, while being durable enough to take the beating of my on the go hands-on lifestyle, and formal enough I can walk into a business meeting and play the part. Better Sweater Fleece is worthless if you step outside. I find that the material is so porous that walking on a cool day is enough to let the breeze in and cool me down. Cheap quality that I would expect to find at Target for 1/4 the price
My wife & I both bought these & they 'pill-up' so bad that she constantly has to use a 'clothes shaver' on them. She says the quality is no better than one of the big box stores. For the exorbitantly high prices you guys charge for your gear I'm very disappointed in the quality.

This jacket would be ok for a calm wind day and moderate temps of 50 degrees or above. If you wear a thin short or long sleeve polyester shirt, you may get the jacket on a little more easier. I wore a long sleeve thin merino wool shirt and it took some time to get the shirt and jacket adjusted with all the drag from opposing fabrics (wool and fleece). If you want to introduce new sizes for everyone else, do it like J.Crew and Banana Republic and introduce Regular, Petite, and Long/Tall sizes and keep the old sizes as they were. This a great staple for your wardrobe. I have it in black, but it has pilled substantially even though it has only been lightly been worn. I would go for a different color. Will definitely keep you warm and is classic enough that you can wear it in business casual environments.
The jacket is perfect. The only criticism is that the jacket look way darker and different in person than in the product photographs. Other than that it is a good sweater jacket and it's worth the money.

My wife bought one, then I bought one, then my 4 kids got one and now my extended family has them. The only negative (for some) is that the sleeves run a bit longer than usual for all of us. Some like that, some don't. Overall we all love the Better Sweater.
Love this so much I bought one for every member of our team! Works as a stand alone sweater and also a great under jacket with a shell in the cold weather. Wore this with a goretex shell hiking on a 14 degree day and was very comfortable.
I bought this to replace a north face windwall jacket. It is an excellent layer under a vest or lightweight jacket. It keeps me very warm.

The quality is certainly there. But the color was not at all what I expected from the image online. Depends on your build...but I found the shoulders tight and I'm not very broad in the shoulders. 5' 11" 180lbs... ordered a large. The middle section is bigger than I expected too. Kind of baggy.
This jacket is good looking and the fabric and tailoring seem to be very good. I am disappointed that the "Navy" color is not Navy, but more like a stonewashed denim. Another disappointment is that the sleeves are too tight,so that putting the jacket on over shirt sleeves is quite difficult.
I love my "better sweater" it's definitely one of the best purchases I've made this year, premium quality, comfy and washes really well.. Patagonia products always stand the test of time.
I bought this item a month ago before traveling to the Maritimes. During our 3 weeks there I wore this sweater constantly. It warm incredibly warm yet breathable. I enjoyed it and raved about it so much that my wife bought a red one for herself while we were in Halifax! Now we're both toasty and good lookin' at the same time!
Bought this for my 84 year old Dad (6'4",200 lbs) and he loves it! It delivers a smashing look as well as being his new very favorite piece of clothing. He says,"It's so light you don't even know you have it on." Bought a L and it fits like it was custom-made (love the long sleeve length).
I bought this for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it! It's so warm and comfortable. We both have one and we love to wear them on those chilly days when we are running errands or just hanging out! Totally worth it!
I really like this jacket. I use it almost every day. Have used it hiking/camping in the Sierras, around town, and after I get out of the ocean at night. It is warm and durable and low maintenance. I bought this product just about a year ago and I've really enjoyed it. The weight is perfect for late fall to late winter/early spring. Great product.
This fleece is Awesome!
A comfortably, snug fit that keeps the core warm from hips to the top of the neck if needed. Zipper closing pockets that don't scratch your skin.

This is a really nice jacket, but as others have mentioned, the sleeves are much too long. The jacket body fits me well, but the sleeves are designed for real knuckle-draggers. Yes, I wear this garment when walking around, but when I am doing something strenuous like hiking or skiing, I wouldn't grab this sweater. The material is too thick. Plus, its such a nice design, I wouldn't want to get it dirty. I grab a synchilla pullover or something like that.
In my humble opinion, I think they should go back to the more casual design. But that is splitting hairs. Overall, the better sweater is a great design and the first thing you throw in your bag for the weekend.
Don't understand why you changed the way this is made. Bought an XL which is the same size I bought of the better sweater in past years. The sleeves and length on this new version is way too long. Also,it's missing the premium nylon facing on the zipper track and the... Read More new chest pocket I think that it's still a nice jacket, but its cutbacks in quality this year don't differentiate itself from other products as a clearly superior option anymore. I honestly think that the 2014 model was perfect in terms of size and warmth and that if the 2015 Better Sweater had just been the 2014 model with the extra chest pocket,it would've been a perfectly solid upgrade. I'll still recommend this jacket for its guaranteed Patagonia quality but am hoping that the 2016 model goes back to the previous superior design and quality that I expect of Patagonia.
Based on earlier reviews,I ordered a size down for my husband, who generally wears a Large in everything. The Medium was much, much too small, and had to be exchanged. Read Moresband for Christmas, and he has been wearing it like a second skin, even sleeping in it on occasion,so perhaps that's not a typical wear pattern...my only complaint is that it is pilling, especially on the front, and it's only been washed 2 times. Again, this could be from overuse, but,at this price point,I would expect almost no pilling even with extreme use. It's a great-fitting,stylish,practical,and comfortable jacket. I would have given the jacket 5 stars,if not for the pilling.
I just purchased a third "better sweater" and was surprised to see that the quality had slipped with the recent version but the price had not changed. What's going on at Patagonia regarding fit/sizing?
Hi everyone. I'm a longtime Patagonia wearer. Male,5'8",160lbs,fit build,mid-40s. Something has gone off the rails, and not in a good way,in the design department of late (2015-16 Winter). I really like the jacket. It's comfortable and warm, great as a sweater or midlayer.

The Better Sweater jacket in medium fits me perfectly in the body -- trim, but not tight, and the sleeves fit me perfectly. The trim fit makes it just right for layering under a Nano-Puff or Down Sweater. Couldn't be happier.
As other reviews have mentioned, the arms are longer. Also, unlike most Patagonia jackets, this one has a trim to it. So instead of the massive waste of fabric meant for fat American bellies, the larger sizes broaden the shoulders and waist proportionately. The fabric is thick, durable, and extremely comfortable. I tried a size L, my usual size, on in a store. Too tight all over and the sleeve length was ridiculously long. I could possibly live with that if the cuffs had some kind of elastic or Velcro closures but they don't.
The cut of this product was not well thought out.
