My favorite things

My most loved hardshell ever! I teach avalanche safety courses early to mid-winter in the Colorado Front Range. It's a dry, cold and windy zone most of the season. I'm usually in the damp and foggy Alps starting in Spring. This jacket has worked well in both extremes. It breathes well enough that I can keep it on uphill on days when the t... Read Moreemperature is in the low twenties (F) or below. This jacket has replaced a bunch of soft shells that I used for different days. The jacket packs down small when it's not is use and the weight is unnoticeable in my pack. The jacket barely shows wear after a year of use (mostly snow but some alpine rock too). I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs and the medium has enough space for a base layer t-shirt and Nano-Air Hybrid Hoody to fit easily. When it's real nasty I can even get my Micro Puff Hoody inside too. Colder than that and I'm looking for my parka (which I throw over the Ascensionist). The cohesive cord locks work smoothly even with heavy gloves. The hand warmer pockets are just high enough to stay above my pack waist. I only have one request for Patagonia....never stop making this jacket. I'll be ready for a new one in a few years!

It’s also effective against wind (which was my main motive to get it since I’m a paraglider pilot). Paired with a r2 tech hoodie or a nano air jacket it keeps me dry and warm. Let’s see how it works on a long term in durability fie... Read Moreld. Very satisfied !

Sub 1 lb rock star!

The Amphitheater Trail, ice and melt water dancing off the trees in chunks and rivulets. The Flat Irons above Boulder, CO are laced with magnificent trails and world class climbing, the perfect venue for the sub 1 pound, Gore-Tex, ascensionist jacket. Temperatures barely above freezing had the iced up trees raining on me the entire hike. A cap four... Read More hoodie and the ascensionist kept me dry and comfortable. I’m 225, 6’2” and the XL fits perfect. Super impressed with sweat management inside and the bomber water proofing out. The pit zips are a bit small but on a 13 ounce jacket they’re an acceptable compromise. And, It stows down small in the pack!
