This is the 3rd Synchilla fleece I've purchased in 10+ years. Immediately, the fleece began shedding and pilling, which never happened with the first two. Pilled After One Wash
Purchased for wife, fleece was great when it first arrived, but after one wash it's pilled quite a bit and looks like it's been worn for years now (unfortunately not in a good way).
Thank you for your comments on this and we are so sorry to hear about the pilling. Unfortunately, pilling with knit garments can be inevitable as it is the nature of those fibers. Read Moretagonia is usually very consistent within their fit guidelines, but I feel they missed the mark on this, especially for this season with it being even looser than usual. All model photos show the synchilla being worn with the hemline exposed. If you were to do this, the elastic would be super tight (for those of us women with hips... like any at all). I'd actually really like the hemline to be as loose as it looks in the photos (not super loose, but looser than it actually is) as I currently have to "tuck" the hemline up and let the edge fall over it; otherwise the hemline is constantly riding up. I mean, if you look at the photos of the pieces off the models the hemline seems not elastic at all - it's even with the edge of the material. In reality, you would have to be stretching the hemline to have it hang like this. All that being said, they do have a marsupial version that probably fits more like what I'm wanting. Unfortunately the color selection on it is not at all what people have come to enjoy about the synchilla. Have owned this for about a month and I've worn it very frequently since. I'm a student and it's perfect for going to class. Let me start by saying that these pullovers are so warm and comfit that I gave out 4 of these last Christmas as gifts to my family. My boyfriend (6'4'',190,size M) also bought the men's version of this pullover, and it looked more like a 3/4 sleeve than a long sleeve on him,so we had to return it. We both spend a lot of time hiking and have a lot of friends who are in similar shape as us. We absolutely love these fleeces for keeping our loved ones warm, but we want to wear them ourselves too! Please consider making a 'tall' version of this pullover or making the sleeve as long as other brands' (we have no problem fitting into other outdoor brands such as TNF,Marmot,Lululemon, etc). We look forward to be able to get one that actually fits us this fall/winter season.

I wear a women's L in Re-tool and a M in this one,a 5'3" and 150lbs. I do like the fit of both, but I find the bottom band of the Synchilla a little too snug - it does ride up with activity. The thickness and warmth of this fleece is similar to a thick wool sweater, and I've needed only a thin wicking layer underneath for a hike in 40F. The snaps help to block out the cold from your neck and becasue this pullover doesn't zip, you don't have to worry about your hair getting caught! I will definitely be taking this with me on my hikes up Max Patch and Blood Mountain in the spring becasue of its versatility. My only complaint is that the band at the bottom of the garment is a little tight, so the bottom tends to creep up as soon as you put your arms up. I have a long torso, though, so it would definitely be less of a problem on someone who has a shorter one. It's best to do your research before purchasing a snap t, especially becasue the sizing varies so much from person to person, but this is the best advice I can give: -If you have any doubts about your size, go by the size chart on the website -If you have a larger bust or hips, buy your normal size -If you're slimmer like me (I'm 5'4 and 105 pounds) size down (got an xxs instead of my normal xs) -If you have a longer torso, look up the garment measurements before doing anything. I have a long torso and because of how the waistband rides up, it can get pretty short **It's ALWAYS a good idea to try on a new style of Patagonia gear in a store before you buy it! Waiting to go out and try something on isn't fun, but it's worth it when you end up with a garment that fits perfectly. You won't always get lucky by guesstimating!**
Review on sizing
I've been reading all the reviews about how sizing is crazy with this item,so I finally decided to just go try it on at the store... For reference,I'm 5'5" 120 lbs 30DDD chest,26" waist and 38" hips, shorter on top with longer legs. Based on reviews I was going to order an XS,but when I tried it on in the store,I ended ... Read Moreup deciding between a S and a M. I think the reviews that rant about how huge this item is are trying to wear it as a somewhat fitted sweatshirt - whereas I always think of a fleece as like a cozy toplayer that could fit another sweater underneath. I guess it just depends on how you want to wear it. The main difference between S and M is that the Medium was longer (hem and sleeves!) - also obviously a little bigger throughout - but I could easily pull it down past my butt and it stayed there comfortably. The bottom elasticized hem of the S was also a bit tighter, and it hit about the middle of my bum - not awkwardly, but just a few full inches shorter than the M. (I don't know the length measurements, but just eyeballing it,the M was much longer). I decided on the S - cozy but a bit more streamlined than the M. For reference,I wear a M in the Torrentshell and the Nano Air jackets. I also tried on the XS fleece and it fit pretty perfectly up top,but the hem was too tight to pull down over my hips comfortably, and like I mentioned,I like my fleece to fit a little roomier. I think it fits true to size if you're talking "regular fit" which is a little roomy,if you want it fitted, order down - but know that in addition to getting smaller overall,it will also get shorter and tighter at the hem.
Warm & Cozy!
I purchased an XS in this after reading many reviews. I normally wear a size small in puffy jackets, and sweaters and a medium in jackets. After reading the reviews and realizing that this sweater is regular fit lose fit style I decide to size down to an XS. I am glad I did. It is still comfortable with room, but the length of the arms and torso stil... Read Morel fits great. I am 130lbs 5'4,short torso, long arms. I love it! Got the light owl print
I absolutely love this jacket. It's warm enough that I'm nice and cozy on chilly days, and roomy enough that I don't start sweating as soon as I enter a building. First Patagonia Purchase
First off,I do not like ordering online when I haven't tried on an item, especially when I've never worn the brand and when there isn't free returns/exchanges. However, after reading reviews and speaking with customer service I reluctantly ordered because of the sale. Typically I am an XS in most brands. I'm 5'3,106 lbs.,32A.... Read More The only size available in a color I preferred (nickel/epic blue) was an XXS (some of the prints/colors available aren't very flattering for someone in their late 30's). I was a bit anxious, even though most reviewers stated that they sized down due to this fleece running a bit large. I like my clothes to fit,but not be restricting. I was pleasantly surprised once I tried this on,it fits with plenty room for a baselayer,I wouldn't want to add much more than that as it is really warm.
Warm, Comfy, Cute!
If you're thinking about it, buy it. The fleece is so warm and fluffy, it is seriously one of the best investments I have made for those cold upstate NY winters. I usually gravitate towards S in other clothing but after using the "Whats my size?" tool, I figured I would be fine with the XXS, and I was. I wear a medium in everything. I'm 5'6" 140lbs and this was at least 1 to 2 sizes too big. My 6'3" 225lb husband fit in the jacket better than me. That being said this seemed like a great jacket minus the sizing issue. Very comfortable and lightweight. I will definitely be trying to find one I can try on to get the right si... Read Moreze.
I bought this looking for something to wear when it was just cold enough that a long-sleve shirt wasn't quite enough and it's perfect! It works for colder than that, but when it heats up I haven't overheated while still wearing it! I wore it on a 50 degree casual bike ride and it was great!
Everything you could want in a fleece!!
I bought my first one just a few weeks ago and was slightly hesitant as I wanted to buy a cheaper one first,in case it didn't live up to my expectations, but all they had was XXS and I'm usually XS or S. It didn't take me long to buy another one and it is just as amazing! I do not find that it has a chemical smell to it as some reviews said. I do find that it runs large and being 125lbs and 5"7,the XXS is perfect. I get tons of compliments and couldn't be happier with my fleece! I can't wait to wear it in winter because I know I'm going to be extremely warm and cozy! Thanks for a fantastic product!!
This pullover is soft and comfy with a loose fit. It's perfect for a chilly morning or fall day. My only complaint is that the material smelled like burnt rubber when it arrived. Disappointing to have to wash it multiple times before wearing it to try to get rid of such a strong and unpleasant smell
I ordered a small (which have always worked well) and was assuming it would be lightweight as billed. I love my fleece so much! It is perfect. This fleece is great for chilly mornings and nights. It is just the right amount of warm. I wish it didn't have elastic on the bottom, because as a short person it hits me awkwardly on the bottom. I love this pullover!!!! I wore it almost every day on my trip to acadia national park where temps didn't get above 50 degrees Fahrenheit for the whole week I was there. it's so warm but not too bulky, and it managed to keep my other layers dry when I got soaked by a giant wave at thunder hole!
Incredibly Soft- Runs LARGE
5'2 120lbs- wear 36B (but I am fairly small chested) I purchased in size XS and it was too big. The pullover was long (went past my butt) and it was very boxy. Sleeves were perfect length. I'm in love.
I have owned this fleece for 5 months now and I'm still as in love as the day I bought it. It's cozy and warm. Light enough for a spring or fall day,but keeps you warm for winter too. I would buy this again a hundred times over. Also the print makes me super happy and has gotten me many many compliments. Thanks Patagonia. You guys rock.
This fleece is very comfy and kept me warm while I was camping in Georgia and North Carolina this past winter and late spring. It's looser-fitting compared to other fleeces I own so when I wear it hiking,it provides warmth and just the right amount of ventilation. The fit was as-described.
Warm and fuzzy!
Great sweater. Feels incredible. Love wearing it just hanging out or for casual outdoor activities. Fairly resistant to water (I can wear it in a light shower and don't end up being damp all day). Love the Prints!
First I ordered the timber twist: cinder red in medium as I do like my pullovers oversized. The replacement came in and the width and the elastic bands of the sleeves were slightly better, there was a noticeable difference, but the end of the sleeve was still wide due to elastic and with either pullover the sleeves would fall if I pushed them up. The print of this pullover is beautiful and it's very toasty! I then ordered a small and the sleeve width is MUCH better, but the body length is not quite as long as I would like. I did also order the Moon Owl: Harvest Moon Blue in small as well. That print is my favorite! It's just so bright and gorgeous!! I agree sizing is just kind of wonky with the bottom of the sleeve widths, the length of the sleeves didn't bother me as they're on the longer size. I do own the full zip re-tool fleece jacket in medium and have no issues with the sizing with that piece! I do wish they would add pockets to this pullover!! I keep finding myself trying to shove my hands in the nonexistent pockets. That is my number one compliant ahead of the sleeve widths. If they would add pockets to this pullover I would order them in every color! Customer service is top notch as well!
so comfy !!!
This is exactly what I wanted. The fit is larger (I have a size large in the Re-Tool Snap-T Pullover...it's a little smaller than the size medium synchilla) but super comfortable and the colors are amazing! I cannot wait to move back North where I will be able to wear it more often.
I absolutely love this pullover! I've been purchasing from Patagonia for a few years now and I'm never disappointed! I own a few of the Re-Tool Snap-T but I really wanted the traditional fleece.
