My most-worn article of clothing
I bought a black down sweater many years ago and it has turned out to be my most used article of clothing. I wear it on cool days outdoors all summer, and in the house all winter, or under a coat. The down sweater jackets fit me perfectly. My old Tailored Gray gave up it's last breath and it was time to get a new down sweater jacket. I wanted a "real red" but the Roamer Red color was not what I had been hoping for. I exchanged it and got a Pura Purple. It will stand out nicely in a sea of Seattle black jackets.

This jacket hardly needs my endorsement as it is a Pat classic by now. But for anyone considering an ideal jacket for a backpacking trip this is it. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and can't wait to take it on many outdoor adventures.
Great product, the only thing
Great product, the only thing I would note is that the vertical seams create a boxy shape, so if the jacket is baggy, and not closely fitting, it has a tendency to create a rectangular shape around the body. If it fits closely, then it forms to your body and looks better. Maybe over time the jacket would conform to your shape, even if worn baggy.

My favorite jacket
I’ve had the down sweater for two years. I wear it skiing, hiking, and everyday general use all winter. It’s shows no signs of wear. No feathers have come out, no fraying. Read Moreecause they were all so skinny in the arms I couldn’t bend my elbows. I do not lift weights, I’m naturally muscular but not unusually so. Patagonia is the only brand I have found that comfortably fits me and lets me move. The redesigned styles (versus 20 years ago) are also now cut to the female figure, so thanks for that. I’m 5'3" 135lbs and the medium is a perfect fit for me over light layers like capilene with a fine wool sweater, but I have no room for heavy sweaters or fleece. I wear a 38C and the medium is just right in the chest. I couldn’t comfortably wear it any tighter. The shoulders are roomy enough that I can comfortably cross country ski and reach down to my boots. I feel it is the perfect length for me. Sleeves are about 3" too long (typical for me) but the fabric and down are so soft that the bunching doesn't bother me, and the stretch binding at the wrists keeps the sleeves from coming over my hands. I could have bought the large and filled the extra space with a heavy sweater or thick fleece but I have never wished for that much insulation while wearing the medium with light layers. It keeps me plenty warm when I am active. On a really cold day on the hill, wear it as a middle layer and wear a shell over it.

I'm a big fan of Patagonia products. They are good quality and last a long time. I am 5'8 about about 140 lbs - the small fits well on the torso but the arms are a bit large. (2). The pockets are extremely small. I'm a small person, and my hands don't fit in the pockets open. I have to make a fist for them to barely fit in the pockets. I bought this to replace an old Marmot, which had pockets big enough for my hands and my Samsung S8 phone. My S8 does NOT fit inside the pockets of this jacket. It's kind of disappointing because I actually love the fit everywhere else. The length of this jacket hits the mid part of my rear, not too long, not too short. I like it. Patagonia, I hope you're reading this and taking customer's suggestions into consideration in your design. I've never had a pocket jacket so small that my hands don't fit inside them. I'm debating whether or not to keep it or return it. The tomato color is bright, but not a proper red color, so I'm not sure if I want it. I really wish you have the same color options for one design vs the other (hood vs no hood). I buy these jackets for my hikes/climbing and I like bright colored jackets so that I can easily be seen on a wall climbing, or hiking or maybe when I'm not and need to be rescued. I need more color options for the hooded down sweater, please. I just ordered my husband a nano puff, so I'm hoping that it'll fit properly for him. One other thing, the XXS in this jacket is not the same as the XXS in the micro puff. The micro puff XXS is extremely tight around the arm and waist. Please keep your sizes consistent across product line. Thank you.
I was mostly loving this jacket-the xs was a bit tight, yet the sm was too large, but it was working out. However, the zipper is terrible! It goes up and down just fine, but snags on everything. I love my Patagonia down sweater so much! I bought my first one in February this last year. I didn't realize how versatile it is. Comfortable to wear in various weather situations. New style - poor fit
I love Patagonia products - most of my clothes are Patagona. I have 2 of the original models of this down sweater and can't say enough about what a great fit and awesome product they are. I have worn size medium in this down sweater for years. Ordered a third one,the "burgundy," in sz M and it is much smaller than my original two: shorter, tighter. I worked for an outdoor gear store for almost a year and one of the products we sold was Patagonia. When I traveled for Christmas,I packed the coat into the inside pocket and carried it on my purse with a carabiner through the airport.
Easy to wear
I agree with the previous comment that Patagonia quality seems to be declining a bit. Read Moreause I wear that size in Patagonia's long underwear tops. In this jacket, I find the fit a little off for me. The shoulders feel a bit narrow (unusual for my body), the chest is fine, the hip is just right, arms are just long enough, but the waist is very roomy. Given my proportions, this means that the waist is standing in a straight line between chest and hips, though the fit is supposed to be slimmer. The medium is very, very roomy in the waist, in a way that makes it less useful to me for layering, so I prefer the small for my purposes, and I'll keep it (I LOVE the oxblood color). It isn't that it doesn't fit, it just isn't very flattering. My advice is that if you are a woman whose proportions change substantially from shoulder/chest to waist to hip, as mine do, you might have similar fit problems. It seems this would be a great fit for a person with a straighter body type. Hope this is helpful.

Last year, the winter of 2014,I bought one of these sweater jackets and liked it so much that I immediately bought another. They are my go-to jackets, except when the weather is truly foul,as in excessively windy, wet or frigid. I am about to buy another Patagonia women's down sweater jacket. I came across the negative reviews of this jacket on t... Read Morehe Patagonia website and felt compelled to counteract them with my own positive experience. First,I love the style--not boxy, but somewhat form fitting and longer than waist length. The fit is comfortable and attractive. I am 5'3" tall and weigh 110 pounds. I generally wear size small, and the small in this jacket fits perfectly. I can wear two thermal tops under this jacket--one thin and one of moderate thickness--and not feel constricted. The jacket does a good job of blocking moderate wind and resists light rain. It would not be a jacket of choice for sustained, stiff, frigid winds or drenching downpours, but the jacket is not designed for those conditions. I like the length very much. I can't imagine wanting a waist-length jacket that lacks figure flattering contours,as some reviewers prefer. Why would anyone want a short, bulky, boxy jacket? I like the fact that this sweater jacket reaches my hips and provides my rear end with a few inches of coverage. The style is very flattering. No Michelin Man effect here! I think the fabric is pleasant to touch and comes in very appealing colors. Of course it is a light fabric, subject to tearing under rough usage. A heavy duty outer fabric would ruin the lightness of this jacket. There are plenty of other jackets on the market that are designed to take a beating, and plenty that are short, boxy, totally water proof and wind resistant. I think it's important to note that this is a "sweater" jacket, which implies it is best used under conditions when a warm sweater might come to mind. The happy difference is that this one resists wind and rain,is VERY warm, and is literally light as a feather. When my first sweater jacket arrvied,I thought the company had sent an empty box by mistake--the box was that light when I picked it up. I LOVE wearing a warm jacket that is not oppressively heavy. This sweater jacket is a dream to wear, and to pack. It takes up a miniscule amount of space in a suitcase or backpack and adds only a few ounces to the total weight. The two outer zip pockets are of decent size, and there is an inner zip chest pocket perfect for protecting a cell phone or wallet. The draw cord at the lower hem is handy for blocking wind from below. This jacket even launders well. Stains come out nicely. Instead of using tennis balls in the dryer to re-fluff the down,I use three pairs of dampened,balled-up socks. They redistribute the down nicely, dry along with the jacket, and don't emit that unlovely burnt rubber smell that heated tennis balls sometimes produce. I guess you can tell that I love this jacket. I really do.

I have had my down hoody for about two years. The pros are it is a great warm jacket but still very light. I wear mine all the time. It's great under a hard shell i cold/wet situations. Read Morends medium and it's way too big everywhere to be the solution to this issue. 2. It's too short! I bike a lot, and wow my lower back gets exposed too easily when biking in this jacket. I can't really fit any longer pieces under it because it's too hard to layer under. 3. The nylon is so so thin. Two years of wearing it and the seams under both arms are worn to holes. I just patched my down sweater with gore text tape, EVERY seam had a hole on it. I'm not doing anything hi-intensity in it really just commuting mostly on the subway. Friction holes everywhere under the arms and even inside the jacket! I'm happy that I was able to repair it but buying 'performance' gear I do expect a little better, this isn't some cheap fast fashion coat. I don't know what to say. it's a nice jacket, but I expected it to hold itself together a bit better. My next jacket like this will have to be a thicker denier, clearly. I really want the hooded down sweater but I think I'm going to have to do more research and fine one that doesn't wear through so easily. I'm disappointed in the quality here.
The new version of this jacket is amazing! The old version was too short and wide. I used to wear a small in the old one, and I wear an xs in this one; there's still room for a sweater underneath. The best part is that the arms are finally long enough. The colors are gorgeous. Please keep making this version!
Wish they hadn't changed from the old style...
I have only owned my old Patagonia jacket for two years, but I have worn it out because I go to school in Alaska, as a geology student, and I wear it almost every day from October through April indoors and outdoors. I was so excited to get a new one, because my old one literally has holes with duct tape on them from so much use, but I was extremely disappointed when I put the new jacket on. Until they go back to the old style (mine is from 2013), I will have to find a new brand for my replacement. This jacket used to be so popular because it was so comfortable! I recommended it to everyone who was looking for a warm, lightweight jacket, and several of my family members also started wearing them, but I can no longer give it good reviews.

Wow, really hate this new version....
I don't get why Patagonia changed the fit of both the womens down sweater and the down vest. The old version was comfortable, durable, shorter and allowed for layering. The new versions are really slimmer thru both the body and the arms, making layering out of the question unless you go up a size or two (which really would leave me looking lik... Read Moree the Michelin man!). The fabric is also different--seems a bit flimsy. On top of that, both garments are now a LOT longer, which makes them difficult to zip up, sit in without unzipping, and overall unflattering to a LOT of female body types. I am sure that for the taller, slimmer woman, this new style is probably very welcome, and being a petite woman I completely understand the frustration with finding adequately sized garments if one is either too tall or too short. But why abandon the old style? Surely with all the "special" versions of this sweater/vest, Patagonia could have kept the old style for us loyal customers who bought your stuff decades ago because we loved the fit and durability of your garments!! I absolutely LOVED my old vests and my two lovely sweaters! Fortunately, I have taken excellent care of them, despite constant wear year after year. I love this season's colors, but I will not shell out this much money for something that I won't be comfortable in (and hence, won't wear). Very sad....
Not nearly as good as the older style . . .
I am a die-hard Down Sweater fan, and love them. I finally decided to buy a second one so I could keep one up at our cabin and one at home. The new cut is "contoured" and is much ... Read Moreslimmer/tighter than the old version. Of all the things re-styled, I hate this change the most. I liked being able to wear a thick sweater underneath, and I liked having the coat have a comfortably relaxed fit - it wasn't baggy before, it just had enough ease that I would find myself wearing it even after coming inside. The new cut is snug in the stomach, arms, and chest (while being oddly larger in the shoulders, creating an 80's shoulder pad vibe on me). Since I already wear an XL, there is no next size up for me and the men's coats don't fit me right (I tried in vain to see if that worked out last year). The end result is that I don't wear it as much because it has to be worn with a thin shirt underneath in order to be comfortable, so it isn't the old workhorse I had relied on before. The extra length in the new version was ok, but I preferred the older/shorter length as this isn't meant to be a full-on winter parka (hence, the "Sweater" in it's name). The longer length bothers me when I drive a little. I could deal with this if it meant the rest of the jacket was unaltered. The final thing I will say, which others have mentioned, is that the quality doesn't seem to be quite as high. The outer shell is silkier and less durable, the zippers only coordinate with the coats on a couple of colors, and the whole thing just seems less lofty. I mainly use the first Down Sweater I ever purchased from several years back - it honestly looks only very gently used, and the zippers, elastic wristbands, etc. are all still perfect. Please bring back the original - I promise to buy 5 more if you do!
I've had my "binky" (security blanket) for 8 years now and though it's lost some loft, it is my go-to for everything. Layering for skiing, wearing around town, wrapping me because I'm too cheap to turn the heat on in my hosue. It has proven quite invincible seeing as how I'm VERY hard on all of my clothing.
This New Englander found her favorite jacket!
I don't understand any of the negative comments. This is my absolute favorite jacket due to how light it is, like a feather, how toasty warm it is (and this comes from someone who is always cold) and how well it fits (not too long, but not too short). I've been a fan of Patagonia for many years. The down sweater meets my expectations. The color is wonderful (navy), fit great, and it is very warm for typical New England weather. not as good as the old one
I am keeping this jacket but am quite disappointed in how you have changed the styling and sizing. I am 5'9" and 130 lbs; my old Down Sweater, size small (ca. 2008) fits me perfectly: the shoulders are nice and roomy, the sleeves (MOST IMPORTANTLY) are nice and long. Now, even in the medium this new jacket feels skimpy by comparison. I ha
