I was section hiking the PCT with my girlfriend and bought one of these. The best rod ever! It’s super lightweight and quick to set up. I can have a hook in the water in less than a minute and be ripping lips in two minutes! Plus TFO is the best flyrod company!
I'm a professional fishing guide and work mostly streams and low flow rivers in the Uinta mountain range of Utah. I often work with children from the ages of 8-18. Many of the students I work with have either cognitive or physical differences. Fine motor skills are a challenge. The ability to coordinate your hands, eyes and minds. Simplifying ... The setup is easy and casting is a breeze, even with the 10'6" on New England streams although the 8'6" would get me into tighter, brushier ... Read Moreareas.
The 10'6" has a great action, plenty of flex. I was able to throw about 30 feet of line beautifully, although it was just for fun and not necessary at any stream so far. Most of the day I stuck with about 18 feet and had a blast.
Packs up small enough for me to ride the train home without looking out of place- like my 2-piece 7wt does.
