Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

I have to hike them up to get the crotch at the appropriate height. Then I need to roll the waist over a couple of times, so that the waist isn't at the bottom of my rib cage. Absolutely love these shorts for all around use and they pack small for travel. Note: Be careful on the colors you order. Most are one color but I've ordered two 5" shorts where the pictures had a default navy color on the model but then shorts arrived with a totally different pocket color. (ie. red shorts had blue back pocket?)
I bought these to replace a pair that I have worn regularly for water centric adventuring for 8 years (Gi III). They were not a very good replacement. Something about the waistband design causes the shorts to roll down with hardly anything in the pockets. The pockets use the front of the shorts as their front side, so the seam that makes the bottom... In my case one pocket failed in two weeks, the other in 2 months. In the single season I had the shorts the fabric was bulletproof, seeing plenty of possible snags in coral and cliffs on less than ideal water approaches. If you don't care about pockets, these could be perfect, if you always end up with trash or snacks or shells or rocks in your pockets, you might want to look elsewhere. I have had ok luck with the everyday short and loved the Gi III's. The belt waist on both of these is more comfortable for me, and the pockets stand up to much more abuse.
I have worn the 5" Baggies for years, probably six or seven pairs that have each lasted forever. These are still great! I love the mesh liner and the true fit. Still happy!!
It's taken me a long time to enjoy baggies. Every time I've tried them on, the mesh liner has always turned me off to them. Great all round shorts
Website easy to use. Shorts arrived in good condition and great quality. Would order them again.
I have three pairs of these and they have become my absolute go to for a casual short around the house. Pretty much the first thing I put on Sunday or Saturday morning when I begin my house/yard work. Great for jumping in the pool to cool off and then they dry quickly. Will always have two or three pairs in my collection.

Ok if you like really, really baggy shorts
I'll only wear these (size large) around the house as they are overly baggy which I don't particularly like. I also bought a medium size awhile back and although they are ok in the waist, they are too tight otherwise. Maybe at some point I will either get smaller and wear the medium or, I'll balloon and then like the large.
Hey Dennis, thanks for the review. We're sorry to hear that the fit of these shorts isn't working for you. This is my second pair of baggies and I continue to love the versatility of them. This second pair is much softer than my first which I bought 2 years ago. Highly recommend.
I understand they're called baggies but honestly, these are way too loose fitting around the thigh. I have normal size quads at 6' 180lbs but my legs look like toothpicks in these. Super comfortable but if you're looking for a closer fit around your thighs, don't get these

These shorts are the best. They last forever and fit well. I hate the mesh liner so I cut them out, it would be cool if they offered these with optional mesh lining, perhaps for a small discount. I've used these shorts for many years. They are durable, very comfortable, and work well for flyfishing, gym workouts, pickleball, and water sports. I have baggies that are still in use after 10 years.

I measured them against my old pairs and the waist was almost an inch longer (laid flat on my bed and measure across the waist) and the outseam was easily 1/2 inch or longer. The inseam feels much more like a pair of 7 inch inseam shorts, like a pair of Stand Ups. I thought this was a potential one-off pair and reached out to Patagonia. I spoke with two reps and both of them gave me great information, each something a little different. One mentioned that the cut of the short has not changed, so the sizing should be the same, and the other admitted that it is more than probable that they have changed since I bought my last pair - totally reasonable. So I went ahead and sent them back, thinking they were abnormally big. I went to a local store and tried on a pair of Smalls and they were hardly Baggies - more like Slimmies. So Medium was the right fit for me, and I used the credit from the return of the first shorts to grab a new pair. Unfortunately, the new pair is just as big, perhaps even slightly bigger. I guess all great things come to an end, but the fit of these shorts now is just not the way it used to be. Such a bummer.

The popularity of these shorts speak for themselves. This pair for me was to replace the size smaller which was a little tight on me.
Laid the new 2023 design on top of my 2021 pair. Exactly 0.5 inches wider (i.e., 1 inch extra circumference). As a 32-33 inch waist, this is PERFECT for a medium. My old 2021 pair was uncomfortably tight.

I wear these on days we go to the pool or the water. Looks good enough to wear around town too. Super versatile summer shorts.
These are my go-to shorts for hiking in the rough terrain of the Adirondack Mountains, and they have survived everything that has been thrown at them. They are comfy, water resistant, roomy, and nearly indestructible.
I bought these in the summer 23 sale. Compared to last year, the size small is much bigger. I put the new pair up against my old ones and the new ones are 2-3 inches bigger in the waist. Overall, it is a much bigger fit. Crazy the discrepancy.

I have thick thighs from biking and they seem a bit tight there. The waist fits fine, the bottom opening is fine, but for someone with thick thighs you might want to reconsider. I also didn't know they came with a liner, it's an easy fix to just cut it out. Build quality seems great as usual.
Thanks for the review, Hunter! We recommend always reading the product description before purchasing an item, this will give you an idea of what to expect and where you'll find info on different features (fit, liner, pockets, water repellency, etc.). If you're looking for a pair of shorts sans liner, we recommend checking out the [Men's Trailfarer Shorts - 6"](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-trailfarer-shorts-6-inch/57525.html?dwvar_57525_color=EVMA&cgid=mens-shorts).

Power blue fades
Product was / is fine. I have Patagonia swim trunks that are 35 years old and the only think wrong is the elastic has given way. I swim at my ymca daily. After each swim the shirts get washed. I ordered the power blue shorts and within three weeks they faded out. The printed shorts I also have are fine and have not faded, nor has the 35 year old on... Read Morees.

Short Man Great Product with a flaw
I am returning the product for a refund! Sadly, I am more disappointed than upset with the product. As a short man it is wonderful to find a 5" inseam short that has all of the necessities. While it is "advertised" as a short, it seemed to be constructed like a bathing suit, for which I used it. After just a few days of wear, the sui... Read Moret is TOTALLY washed/bleached out. It is unrecognizable from the original color. There is no tag warning to avoid use as a swimsuit. I hope to get it replaced and use it as a pair of shorts. I bought two other colors and fear the same.
We're sorry to hear about the fabric issues and we're glad that our Customer Service team was able to take care of you when you reached out. Chlorine can certainly be a harsh chemical for many dyes, and we recommend gentle machine wash cold with mild detergent, then let air dry or tumble dry on low heat with no fabric softener for the best [product care](https://www.patagonia.com/repairs/#product-care). If you experience any further issues, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be happy to help!

Super comfortable
This is my second pair love the feel and fit of these shorts. They have quickly become my go to shorts
Own both 5 & 7in versions. Live in these during the summer. Not recommended for hiking, as absolutely no give in them whatsoever! However, I have attempted a couple of hikes; Seams are ultra-strong in high-stress areas. Material survives almost all abrasions (rocks, etc). One thing I'd recommend is cutting out the liner if wearing as every... Read Moreday shorts. Also, I find the lack of rear pocket on 5in version is a pain in the summer months.
Other than that, amazing purchase- expensive, but well worth the extra expense.
I love these. I cut the liner out and use them like normal shorts. Whether lounging around the house, fishing in my chacos, or grabbing lunch, they are legit. Great pair, I try and grab some when they are on sale.
Love these shorts! Wear them constantly during the summer. Wear them very casually around town and in an instant i could be in the water boogie boarding
I own several pairs of baggies. They are comfortable and durable. almost everyday I wear a pair while playing tennis or hiking or working in the garden or lounging around.
I have worked in and around water for 45 years, teaching kayaking and guiding fishing and I have worn Patagonia Baggies for most of that time. The quick drying, durable and comfortable fit makes them the perfect choice for summer outdoor wear.
ve had these for a few weeks now. They offer a full range of motion and are pretty light. The mesh interior felt a bit like swim trunks at first, but the more I wear them the more secure they feel. I love the material!
Have been wearing Baggies since they were introduced. Wore constantly on Grand Canyon and many other river trips. Comfortable, dry quickly and look great. Also very functional hot tub atire.
Since Covid I have been living in Baggies from spring through fall (with the occasional warm day in winter). They are durable, comfortable and unfussy offering the just the right amount of cargo carrying. I have several pairs dating back over a decade. Haven't found anything else that fits my needs as well.
I wear these shorts all summer. I have two pair on rotation. They easily transition from swimming, paddling, fishing to happy hour and dinner out.
I am 5-8 with a medium build. Small fits perfectly.
I have too many pairs of baggies to count!! This color is spectacular, and the fit is incredible. Which was expected. Looking forward to wearing them out, then getting them repaired!!
Second pair of baggies I have bought in 7 years. First pair still look look like new after all these years. Only needed to get a second pair because wanted new color. Bought all my kids a pair for vacation. Love the fact made from recycled fishing net. Value exceeds the price.
The fabric seems to be of good lasting quality. The fit is good. But I don't like how the front pocket is very deep. So when I put my phone in it. The phone lands right in the middle of my thighs. making it inconvenient to walk.
Hi Rubens! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We really appreciate this feedback regarding the pocket, and we'll share it with our design team. Great Shorts; Awful Liner
These shorts are great in terms of length and fit true to size. However, I would suggest sizing up if you are muscular or want a truly baggy fit. Material is great and the pockets are deep. My only real complaint is the liner. The cut of the liner is just weird and bunches. A good pair of scissors fixes the problem, but I wish there was an option t... Read Moreo buy without.
I have bought this product consistently over the years. I am very happy with them and would advocate to all. I wear them around the house, to bed, etc. No complaints.
I really enjoy the feel and shape of the shorts, I wear them all the time when I get home from the office. They're great in the summer when I wear them outside to hike and camp. The pockets are great, sometimes it's hard to dig in them since the pockets are so deep but the pocket size is my favorite feature. It's hard to synch the wa... Read Moreist to be tight enough for when I put my phone, wallet and keys in them - it can weigh down the shorts a bit and make them sag, but I still like them a lot
I've worn these around on the weekends casually and also playing sports, running, working out, etc. The lining means you can also swim with them. Made from tough material but still lightweight. Also I don't think these retain sweat or smell as badly as other workout shorts do, especially if you're wearing underwear too and not just r... Read Moreelying on the internal liner.
Definitely a great pair of all around swimming/workout/outdoors shorts.
I usually wear a 34" waist but found the Medium to be a bit small since I have a big butt/thighs. The large was a bit looser on the waist but fit better overall.
I have been buying and wearing Baggies since they were introduced by Patagonia. They can be worn for any activity. They're comfortable, durable and they just keep improving them I have several homes and I have them in each place. They are my favorites!
I have these Baggies in many colors. They are my daily summer uniform plus they are perfect when playing PickleBall. The pockets have been modified and do not holds PickleBalls as well.
I'm brand new to the world of baggies. Just bought a couple on sale. Im 5 ft 9in around 150 lbs, and the small fits me very well. The waist has some elasticity too, so if I add a few more pounds it should expand just fine. To me, they're less baggy, and more.. airy.. if that makes any sense? I see reviews about it not being the same short... Read Mores as in decades prior (which I have no knowledge about), but they feel rugged and versatile enough AND they fit really nice and make my legs look great. Will probably be buying more right after writing this review.
Weird fit on these for me though I have thunder thighs. I always order a large in shorts since the tend to run big. The waist on these do run big so I have to winch them tight. But my thighs are then squeezed quite tight. This is for runners, not lifters.
I love the shorts when I bought them XS but I had to return them because it was very difficult for me to access the pockets comfortably. However I switched them for a size up to S, which was has a comfortable pocket position but is a bit too large compared to XS.
Just as advertised. Very comfortable, quick dry and the liner works well with the rest of the short in casual wear settings. Love the two tone color scheme and responsible material. I plan to grab another pattern when they are available.
I bought the Patagonia Men's shorts because I wanted a durable pair of workout shorts. Mainly to squat and lunge with. The shorts seem to be made well, and the material feels good and sturdy. However, as you squat, the shorts slide down. If you have a cell phone in your pocket, they kinda slide down. When you're active, they slide down an... Read Mored don't stay on in tact. You might say I got a size too big, I originally bought a medium and the problem was worse. I love Patagonia as a company, love their shirts. But, I called and asked which shorts I should get for lifting and they suggested these. I'm disappointed. While these might work for someone else that's not as active, maybe great for walking shorts, for me, they don't work so well. It's as if the elastic waist needs to be made stronger, I don't know. I don't like to leave a bad review for Patagonia since I do really like the company, but, after getting emails about my feedback, I thought this would help improve the quality of the shorts going forward.
Hey Robert, thank you for the review. We're very sorry to hear that these shorts were recommended to you for lifting. While we do not make any of our gear with lifting in mind per se, these would not be the first that we would suggest. The Baggies are great for casual day to day use, but they won't have the technical features that you'd find in something like our [Men's Strider Pro Running Shorts](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-strider-pro-running-shorts-5-inch/24633.html?dwvar_24633_color=LTPG&cgid=mens-shorts). They come in a 5 or 7" inseam, so you can choose your preference. As the name suggests, they were designed for running, but we think the breathable fabric and lightweight built-in liner would be great for lifting, checking them out!

Love them Baggies
I got the mushroom design, and I love it. These are super comfy, and I wore them kite surfing this week, as well as on a long hike. Trouble is, I also have a pair of Baggies that are >20 yrs old, and same size, supposedly, but the new ones have a larger waist, and kind of more puffy and big. I like them a lot, just wish they fit like the old sch... Read Moreool pair.
Super comfortable and great fit and fabric. I purchased my very first pair summer, 2022 and fell in love with these shorts. Stocking up on more colors for next spring. Highly recommend!
Classic shorts. I dislike the liner so I cut it out, frees up a ton of space down there! I am typically a size medium in shorts, but the waist on these fits between a medium and a large, so I have to tie the waistband if I want to do any sort of activity without them falling down. If you are between sizes I recommend sizing down. Additionally, bewa... Read Morere that the shorts are made of real strong nylon. This means they will last forever but also that the fabric is quite stiff, hence the necessary baggy-ness.
Baggies are my go-to shorts for the majority of the year when applicable. I chose fit true to size because they fit based off the measurements suggestions. If you between sizes you may want to go smaller. They don't call them baggies for nothing. Liked them so much I bought another pair!
I like the idea of deep pockets, but when I put my wallet and handphone in them they kinda swing left and right when I walk. It may be lesser an issue for taller folks.
