Perfect ski touring piece

I've worn the Upstride jacket on a few casual ski touring outings as well as the Gothic Mountain Tour. I wear a lightweight long-sleeved base layer underneath and that's it. The Upstride breathes / regulates incredibly well. It was blowing snow with winds up to 40 mph and with the hood up, I managed to stay comfortable as long as I kept m... Read Moreoving. I've worn various versions of the Nano Air and tend to overheat and sweat too much. The Upstride kept me from overheating and also kept me comfortable when the wind and snow picked up. We all want breathability in a mid-layer, but can that mid-layer also provide protection from the elements? I found that once I ripped skins I didn't need to put a shell on over the Upstride. There is enough weather protection to keep me warm enough on the ski down. I'm really impressed with this jacket and expect this to be my go-to ski touring jacket for years to come. Great job!

Perfect top for Ski/Skinning

Great top for skinning and storm skiing. I used the fitting guide and it fit perfectly.

Confused-soft shell shirt?

Bought this for skinning. The breathable piece ya throw over everything. However, its snug. Like, really snug. You might squeeze in a thin merino t shirt. Second, there are no pit zips. It breathes well, so not a show stopper. The best I can imagine is a great running jacket with a t shirt underneath. Gave it three stars because the material is ama... Read Morezing. Great Sift Shell Jacket for Aerobic Activities

My 15 year old jacket was becoming a plastic bag that I used for uphill travel/skiing. This new jacket is amazing on it's ability to breath, yet at the same time block wind on ridges and keep me warm. On a snowy/blowing day, the hood worked great, fit well to keep me totally protected. What happened to Red jackets

I really like the coat but i wanted red and this is more brown/red. To be seen by hunters in the woods is important where we live. I did not see one bright red coat in your offering this season on line or in store, why did you stop making bright red jackets? Thank you

Breathes well in spite of lacking pit zips

I use this garment for alpine touring. I am 6ft 167lbs, 41 chest 32 waist pant size. Size medium in this jacket allows for base and mid layers underneath. It is lightweight and moisture resistant. It breathed well on a recent 1,750 foot skin up a mountain. I have been snowed on in it and had no problems. The pockets are positioned appropriately for... Read More wearing a backpack. I view this garment as a good value. I did not realize it had no pit zips when I purchased it online. If it had them it would be 5 star.

Light Weight

This jacket runs so small I cannot wear a mid layer under it so will have to wait for warmer weather to use it. A size large normally would have more room.

Great Uphill Tour Jacket

Picked up this jacket to dial in a backcountry ski setup, unbelievable comfort and temperature regulation when going from full sun , to a shady cool gully to exposed wind on the transition to a downhill ski. Made it simpler than a high output jacket and a wind light shell.

Ideal Backcountry Ski Jacket

So long as the temps stay at or below freezing, I'm going to wear a softshell jacket. After a handfull of days wearing the Upstride jacket, I can say I'm psyched to have it as part of my layering system. Yesterday, I started up on a ski tour at a super alpine start of 12 noon! We reached 11,000' by 2:30 and had traveled through some... Read More windless radiant induced zones where my short sleeve silkweight + an unzipped Upstride kept me at a perfect temp. Later, on the ridge with a constant 20 MPH wind and high 30's temps, the same silkweight T, Upstride (with hood up) + Nano-Puff kept me comfy. Never did my sweat accumulate to cool me to a chill. The Upstride kept the wind off, breathed well, and stayed on the entire day acting as an ideal layer.

Below expectations

I got this to replace a soft shell, the repair shop lost. Just got back from a week long ski touring trip and Im having to figure out how to send this jacket back. First problem is the sleeves are too small and the stitching ripped out and already has a hole (5 days of touring). Second problem is the pockets barely fit pomoca skins but do not fit B... Read MoreD skins and Im not convinced the vent is effective. Third problem is it wrinkles when you pack it. Fourth problem is the hood barely fits over a helmet. Finally, it fits but xxl would be good if I wear a puffy below it comes out the bottom a bit. I think this is designed more as a wear around town jacket than for use in ski touring.

best jacket ever for intensive activity in the cold

i wear it mostly for xc skiing, classic and skate, and planning on wearing it for AT ventures too now that we finally have a base of snow in the bc. works exactly as advertised, very breathable and fairly windproof. especially fantastic for days in the 20 degree F plus range - colder than that, or extra windy, and you either need to add a midlayer ... Wow

Im usually a L in Jacket, but purchased the XL, since its a slim fit. Excellent and unique piece, very well made and super comfortable. The smolder blue is amazing and I wish there was a Navy blue and Black as well

Ski tour perfection

I'm 6'1" and 152 lbs and bought a M direct from Patagonia. Fits perfect on me and there is enough room under the jacket to added a thin layer or two to a base layer. The jacket is a slim fit, so if you are a bit on the stronger side of the spectrum, you might want to consider sizing up. Jacket breathes really well and manages desired... Read More body temps, even in wind. My skins fit a 186 ski that is 136/112/128 and the skins fit in the side pockets if I tri-fold the skins. I've got 3 long touring days with the jacket, two of which were ~20 degree F days in a storm with wind and the jacket stayed dry and kept my body temp comfortable without needing to fiddle with adding and subtracting layers as I went up and down the mountain. Had another day in the sun around the same temp and again the jacket performed well and didn't require layer adds/subtracts. Hood is valuable for ridge tops or shoulders when the wind is fierce. One of the best (if not the best) tech jackets I've ever used. Like many reviewers have noted, the zippers aren't burly, but they seem adequate for the job and I've had no issues. Cell pocket is a bit high for frequent use when you have a backpack strap, so toss the cell in a pant pocket and get it further away from your beacon.

Small pockets with flimsy zippers

I really wanted to love this, but I put climbing skins in my pockets - these pockets wont fit powder skins, and the pocket zippers are clearly not going to hold up to hard use. Fit and materials seem great, bur I returned mine. My old Levitation hoody works just as well for skiing.

Perfect fit

From the moment i put it on I new this would accompany me on many adventures to come. Its so pretty it was hard knowing I was about to abuse this jacket in the alpine, but Im glad to know it moves well and will keep me warm when the weather turns again.

Perfect Backcountry Soft Shell Jacket?

I was looking for a softshell jacket for backcountry skiing that would be a generally be a second layer or third layer if really cold. Had to be slim fitting, breath well, and most importantly, have big enough front pockets to put climbing skins in for quick transitions (hate taking off my backpack if I don't have to). The Upstride Jacket is e... Read Morexactly what I was looking for. It was really hard to find in the US in my size, but I did. The front pockets are big enough to fit one folded up climbing skin for a 101 wasted ski, but it is a little tight. Haven't tried yet with wider skins. A little worried by the size of the zippers for the pockets and whether they will hold up long term. The softshell material is great. Seems to breathe well and is durable so far and I have done a few ugly bushwhacks wearing it, but no signs of wear. Sleeves are long enough for my 37 inch sleeve length. I really like the minimal cuff design. All in all, I think I have found my holy grail backcountry soft shell. Good work Patagonia. Now please make the Upstride pants in a 34 inch inseam.
