Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Hi Tiffany, thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Houdini Jacket. Based on your review of the Houdini, we'd like to recommend the [Torrentshell Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-torrentshell-3l-rain-jacket/85246.html?dwvar_85246_color=NUVG) as a great alternative. The Torrentshell is known for its durability, waterproofness and breathability, making it perfect for unpredictable weather conditions. It's designed to keep you dry and comfortable during outdoor adventures, whether your hiking, camping, or simply exploring nature. We believe it will meet your needs as a more substantial outer layer in New England, while still maintaining high quality performance.

Not right for me - Needs pocket!
Fabric is sturdy but super thin and one small chest pocket isn’t enough. Add rear pocket at least!
Dear Kathleen, we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We understand your concern about the lack of pockets. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for future improvements. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Super thin !
This is the only one on the market that I have found to be this thin. Packs down to almost nothing. Keeps the wind off on cool mornings, but doesn't get hot as the day warms up. I have three of these in various colors. I wear this almost every day in the fall. Just bought my wife one as well.
I bought this to go on safari and it was perfect. Packed up so small. I would put it on in the cold morning and evening in the open topped jeep and it kept me nice and warm. I would leave it on when it got sunny for sun protection and it wasn't too hot. Broke the wind chill perfectly. Fit like a dream. I love it!
I feel like this piece and a Nanopuff are the two main staples every closet needs!
I love the Houdini! You can wear a long sleeve undershirt & this will just keep you nice and warm.
I say its a must have! Weight is great for hiking and its so compact!
I love to hike with my dog every single day, but I am severely allergic to mosquitos. Ever since I started wearing the Houdini jacket I have not been bit on my upper body, not even once! I will be returning this jacket. Its the thinnest jacket I have ever seen! It looks so thin that it would probably tear very easily. It looked much thicker in the pictures. I would pay maybe 20 dollars for a jacket this thin, not 109! Very disappointed in this purchase!
It’s a packable insurance policy. My boyfriend has had one for 15 years and it’s held up beautifully. I got the forest green color and it’s just lovely.
Very light jacket, easily foldable and fitting well. I really like the colour (hemlock green) and finish of the jacket; though it looks flimsy, it seems well made. It has protected me from rain on a hike, while saving both space and weight in my backpack. Very happy with this product!
I have 3 houdini I bought years ago. I just purchased a new one and when worn the tags and hanging loop sewn in to the back top seam stick up. Perfect jacket
I was looking for a light jacket that doesn’t make you sweat and still keeps you dry, this one is perfect and is a nice fit all over. True to size too
I bought the houdini after seeing my friend layer one with his rain jacket in Chilean Patagonia and my life has never been the same. I like to layer it with my rain jacket for more wind-pro or in cold rain, or chilly snow activity days. The chest pocket is just the right size for a phone and keys for a quick run. The high-zipper with the hood is excellent at keeping my hats from getting blown off my head on ridges. The clip loop is cute but delicate and unnecessary in my opinion. When I've taken this jacket on multi-pitch climbs, I've stayed away from clipping it to my harness in fear of pulling against it too hard and having my layer tumble down the wall. When my houdini is too far gone, I will certainly be replacing it. It has become an essential piece of my layering system.
Bought this as an extra layer for high mountain fly fishing in Montana
This thing is priceless! When it got cold I layered this over a long sleeve and under my rain jacket

Not rain proof but rain resistant
Helped me focus on the moment and land some great cutthroat in Yellowstone Park!
I got this jacket to be a lightweight cover at work. It works great. I love how lightweight the fabric is and the purple color is great! Read More jacket, I quickly threw it on over my lightweight softshell. Liked how it layers nicely. As the hike went on, I was very surprised on how well this jacket held up to the weather! It blocked the wind and I was very snug. The mixed precipitation did not soak through, and if it did, it must of quickly dried up in the wind. For such a delicate looking of a jacket, this really held up! This goes with me everywhere I go now!
This is the fourth Houdini jacket I have purchased. As an avid hiker who likes to get moving early, I find it a bit chilly while I am waiting to start my hike. This lightweight jacket takes the sting off and gives me wind protection as well. Within an hour of hiking, I can shed it and crumple it into my hydration backpack. It is also great to take ... Read Morealong on hiking vacations since it packs into its own small pocket. The body of the jacket is more relaxed than I prefer, but if I have to wear a fleece vest or jacket, theres room. For a change, I purchased the Stingray Mauve print which goes well with my grey hiking tees, knickers and pants.
Have this in a medium and I love that size too. Bought another one and a bigger size to wear over layers. Love the purple print and its great over a fleece ect.
I now have several and this remains my most favorite garment to wear in weather ranging from a windy summer day to a frosty winter run. I think everyone needs one!
I got this Houdini Jacket in a yellow-blue floral print that isn't found online. The material is super nice and I love that you can pack it into a small pouch. The print is super spring and summer appropriate, perfect for the outdoors.
Why no useable pockets?.
The only pocket is up high and way too shallow a depth for any real use. This pocket could have been deeper and at a minimum, an interior pocket could have been included. Why would women not need pockets for keys, phone, wallet, etc?
Makes no sense. I love the fit and color of this jacket. Having to return due to lack of ... Read Morepockets is so backwards for Patagonia. What is going on?
A simple interior pouch, crudely sewn would make a lot of difference. Major disappointment.
Hi Heather, the Houdini® Jacket was made for high exertion activities so the jacket was made with minimalism in mind. Super light and packable
I purchased this for a backpacking trip due to its light weight and packability and it did not disappoint! I have used it on several other occasions, even packing it into a small cross body purse for an evening boat trip. It breaks the wind pretty well and keeps me relatively warm. It doesnt have great ventilation and the bungee cord mechanism to t... Read Moreighten the bottom of the jacket is a bit weird, but otherwise, its perfection!
Great for summer rains and about 60 degree weather, so perfect for summer or early fall. Very thin so not a lot of warmth, but just right for keeping rain out in summer weather. Does not have pockets, which is a bummer, but I was so happy to find a Patagonia raincoat that actually fit me (XXL). Ive worn it almost every day since I got it. Love it!
The size small fits perfect for me. Im 5ft 6inches 118lbs I will be using it for running when its a little raining. I would not be able to wear layers under this size which will work great for me. I would definitely size up if you want layers underneath.
Great shell for PNW Coast. Sheds mist, blocks afternoon wind, layers over a long sleeve base layer if needed. Zipped up and its warm for chilly mornings. Unzipped and perfect when the sun comes out. No waist pockets is great with a pack. However, I dont wear it running because I have dogs and need room for treats and poo bags!
This is an all-time favorite layer. It provides the right amount of warmth and protection during the shoulder seasons. I wear this every time I go running in the cold months and vary the amount and thickness of layers under it. It packs down to be super small and doesn't require a second thought when throwing it in the bottom of a pack as an e... Read Moremergency piece for unexpected weather or to ease a chill.
The Houdini provides a thin layer of sun & bug protection in summer so I've used it running and camping in the desert and work in Hawaii. In fall and winter it's a nice light shell for running. It's also somewhat fitted which is great for layering. Can be folded to a tiny bundle and stored easily. This and the nano-puff - my fav ... Read MorePatagonia items :)
This is the most versatile layer I own. It doubles as an outer layer windbreaker or even a mid layer under my nano on especially cold days. I never leave home without it and use it year round. Best of all, this jacket is super light and packs down small so there are no excuses not to bring it.
Great fabric, fit, and style, but I was very disappointed there were no pockets at waist level. I rarely wear anything that doesnt have good pocket. The one near the neck is very small and in an awkward position for me.
Thanks for the feedback on the pockets Sarah. This is designed to be ultralight so every ounce counts. If you love pockets you'll like our [Women's Mountain View Windbreaker Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-mountain-view-windbreaker-jacket/27756.html).

Waterproof mac
Wonderfully light yet strong waterproof. It can fold and fit into a small bag making it easy to carry around in case of a shower. I would certainly recommend it. Being a recycled fabric is a bonus!
I travel to windy places and this jacket makes all the difference. It is light and packs well. I loved my first one so much I recently bought another. I have recommended this jacket numerous times. An essential when I am traveling and hiking.
I purchased this on sale and am very happy with it. Size medium fits well and it will be perfect for taking along on hikes, canoeing and other adventures.
Great for a little extra sun or wind protection when needed. Lightweight and packable. I wish the bottom and sleeve hems and zipper were made of light reflective material for a little touch of extra nighttime visibility.
The Houdini is always worth the investment. The only noted drawbacks are a lack of side pockets and noisier fabric than some other windbreakers--not really a big deal on either front. My last Houdini lasted many years and finally had to replace it!
A little pricey but good quality windbreaker. It is lightweight & packs easy. Perfect to take on vacation or use for everyday walking. I purchased a bunch of these for gifts and everyone was happy with them. Runs small in bust so size up if you dont want it super snug in chest area.
I have 3 of these and absolutely LOVE them all. My first two are women's small and fit great for every life event and daily use. My new one is XS and also fits nicely, just a bit more fitted. It is not much tighter of a fit than the WS, but unfortunately is longer ... The WS was a perfect length for me at only 5'4", yet the XS is a b... Read Moreit too long for my height. Thank you Patagonia!
Love this jacket. Fits slim, which I like ... and it compresses to the size of an apple or something. Perfect for those mild hiking days when a thin layer is needed. I think it's very attractive as well.
I love how lite and warm this is. Thought long and hard before buying this jacket. Could not have been happier with the pick. Have been for several hikes and regular runs almost every day
This layer comes with me on every adventure- it is so packable and a practical addition for most trips. On windy days, it will keep you so much warmer, as it keeps the wind from stealing your warmth. Consequently, is not super breathable for high output activities (i.e. it will make you sweat), but sheds and stows very easily in the brain of a pack... Usually size L is very roomy for me, but not this one, however size xl is not available, so I am keeping it anyway, as it is very lightweight and packable.
Love this Jacket! It's so light and small it is easy to bring along on any outing or adventure and makes the perfect extra layer for added warmth, wind block or water repellent! I use this jacket as my mid layer while on long distance hikes. On cold mornings just before I start hiking I take off my down jacket & don this windbreaker. Its the perfect weight for staying warm until the sun comes out. Its also what I grab when I stop for a break. Packs down into a small handheld size.
Holy cow! I was skeptical of the ravings from friends about the Houdini, but sure enough to the jacket lives up to the hype.
