Simply the best
Ive owned a lot of shells in my life. I still have many of them, but the Patagonia Torrentshell became my instant favorite. The day it arrived I layered it over some mid weight capilene,a retro-x vest. I went sledding with my daughter with 20 mph winds and wet snow. I loved how easy it was to adjust the hood with gloved hands and the underarm vents... Read More were easy to access. It kept me warm and dry without the bulk!
i walk inside and outside all the time for work and i only ever had water resistant jackets (i live near seattle rain doesnt bother me) but i decided to finally buy something water proof and this jacket doesnt disappoint. Read More really helped and sometimes i would take it off if i was inside for awhile but it definitely helps when its raining! we recently had flooding problems because of the days of nonstop downpour and this jacket really pulled through! Definitely recommend.
I live in Seattle so there is a definite need for a good daily rain jacket. The fit is excellent for a shorter person like me, good in the sleeves and torso. Keeps me dry during long drizzles or downpours. Hasn't soaked through yet and drys quickly. My only complaint is that unlike the last version of this jacket I had for 8 years (Needed to r... Read Moreeplace because inner lining began to flake off at the cuffs), this version is a bit stiffer. I'm assuming changes were made to improve durability which I appreciate, but I miss the fabric of my older model. That's my only comment/complaint but still love this jacket. Loyal Patagonia user!
Wish it was a little boxier.
I love, the construction and so far the DWR is amazing. The fabric is a little crinkly. All in I have not wet out. The arms are tight at the shoulder and forearm. I have also noticed when I curl both seems there is a tight band of fabric al the way across my shoulders.
An outstanding rain jacket and windbreaker. I walked at toddler speed (with my 3 year old) through a downpour and rain storm. Not an inch of my top was wet when I removed the jacket. The billed hood is a great plus. Overall the look is spot on. As the details say, Simple and unpretentious. But does its job incredible well.
Almost perfect, except for the one handed "zip"!
This is the second rain jacket I've owned from Patagonia. The first had a delamination issue of some kind and my local store in Ventura absolutely took care of me. My only gripe, and this was true of the earlier model I had as well, was that the zipper constantly snags on the inside fabric. I get about to where my chin is and I'm stopped.... Read More Many times when trying to unzip it gets caught just by my chin. I don't know if this is just the zipper not able to make the curve up top or what, but it's SO frustrating. This is especially true when I have my hands full and I'm trying to do a"one-handed zip". Just wanted to give my feedback and I fought with the zipper again today! ;)
We're sorry to hear about the fabric interfering with the zipper. Please reach out to the [store](https://www.patagonia.com/store-locator/) for assistance with a repair or return on your jacket. Thanks for taking the time to submit a detailed and thoughtful review, Matt!
H2oh look I'm wet again
Fine for fog. Any rain sustained longer than 10 minutes and water soaks through fabric to clothes underneath. Not waterproof.

A Great Shell That Keeps You Dry
I ordered the Mango color and love it! The pit zips are nice to help you regulate temperature and the draw string hem makes i nice and snug around the hips to retain heat and block the wind. Good rain coat
Just recently moved to New England and realized I didnt own something that was actually waterproof. Its a good jacket, but it does have some faults (for me at least). Not quite windproof
I bought this to replace a pullover version of approximately the same material that I bought from Patagonia over 10 years ago. It has served me very well but I've "outgrown" it. The new jacket seems lighter. I believe it is also of a less tight weave because it doesn't provide the winter wind protection I've had and that I ... Read Morehad hoped for. One thing that it does provide enough of is mobility and that is VERY important to me. A heavier material is easy to come by but I need the freedom of movement that this jacket provides. Thanks for your feedback, Bob! In Spring 2020, we released a revised Torrentshell design with improved durability, better water-repellency, and slightly heavier fabric weight. With great [product care](https://www.patagonia.com/repairs/#product-care) and storage, this jacket should easily last a decade or more. Great Rain Jacket
I love the jacket and it has proven to be water resistant. Moreover, it is light and can easily packed when needed. The Large size fits well and leaves some room in case I need to wear a warm sweater underneath. So far, I dont have any complaints or suggestions for improvement.
Out of proportion
Jacket runs small through chest for any under-layering and sleeves are ridiculously too long. Not sure who or what was used for the size model.

Great Fit and Quality
Purchased this for casual wear and occasional hike or run in the rain. Great rain jacket let down by the details
I was really looking forward to trying a quality rain jacket from Patagonia after my Marmot Gore-tex gave up after 8 years of daily bicycle commutes through every weather pattern. Needs to be re-designed
I bought this because it was so highly reviewed.... it looks like it will fulfill its function, but there are a couple of particular details that need to be re-designed: 1) I'm surprised at how tight the shoulders are: When I put it on, my arms have to go WAY back to go into the sleeves. 2) The hood is too tight: The brim doesn't have roo... Rugged and waterproof rain jacket
I purchased another brand with a softer shell and after 4 years the coating in the hood was worn out. I decided to go with Patagonia because of the XS size. The sleeve and jacket length fit me well. The only area that could use a bit more room is the under arm area. I am 5 2 with broad frame.
Fabric needs work
Fabric is stiff, boardy and makes too much noise. Patagonia needs to use a finishing plant with more expertise. Unsuitable!

Made walking in the rain enjoyable
I never liked being outside during the rain, but while wearing this my wife and I walked around downtown during the rain for about an hour with no issues! I haven't had it long enough to see how it holds up after a few washes but as a new jacket, the water proofing is amazing and it's super light and compact
Love it so far
Just want to comment on fit. 62long arms, 195 pounds after Covid :(. M fit looked the best and feels great, but if you were trying to layer anything more than a sweater of fleece it might be tight. I had assumed Id be a L but M feels much better for a warm warm weather hiking jacket.
Great except the hood
The hood falls down so far over my face it covers my entire nose, making for zero visibility. I have to fold the edge of the hood up, which is annoying. I wouldn't mind folding the hood if it was designed to do so. It needs design work to allow adjusting it to cover the head without covering the eyes.

I traded in a 10-year-old version of this jacket which ceased to fend off the rain even with a double application of DWR. I have put the new one through two downpours with no leakage. Plus it's more comfortable and better looking. Additionally, the old one had a lot of velcro which caused the arms to tangle with other parts. No more.
Fits well as a casual wear raincoat
The sizing is correct and the features are appropriate to the use. I wish that it had a chest pocket for a phone and was slightly lighter weight. Just got this upgrade over my 10 year-old version. It wouldn't take waterproofing anymore, so Patagonia took it back in trade.
