Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

The bag holds a surprising amount of gear. You can just keep packing it and there always seems to be more room. I truly love the built in helmet holder on the front of the bag.
I never write reviews. This is the exception because I love this pack for backcountry/telemark skiing! Overall, I can carry everything I need and enjoy carrying it comfortably.
1) Fits nice and close to the torso, so that there's no shifting around on my back when I'm making turns.
2) Just the right amount of compartments. I can stash m... Read Morey helmet in the outside flap for easy access. The next compartment (outer-most zippered compartment) is for snow shovel, avy probe, emergency gear/first aid kit.; all these things have a special place in the built-in organizers. The top zippered pocket works for car keys, ski goggles and a snack or two. The next zippered compartment is for warm layers, more food and water bladder (in the compartment's sleeve!). I love that I can access this compartment two ways - from the top zipper and, when the pack is off, from the zipper that is next to my torso. It's so easy to stay organized and to find stuff quickly. When it's loaded up, it's not too heavy. My Rocky Talkie fits nicely on the daisy chain/sternum strap webbing.
The design is simple, yet elegant. Great pack!
I bought this for climbing and found it was much more suitable for my needs compared to the Patagonia crag smith pack. It is comfortable with hip straps and fits well. I like that it has several compartments for my things and plenty of space in the inside compartment. Overall great backpack.
Its perfect for hikes and backcountry skiing. Designers should make a side water bottle pocket. that's only one minus what I found in month os using...
I ordered this pack because it had what I was looking for that my current ski touring pack does not - namely, two ways to get into the main compartment, hip belt pockets, a place to stash my skins, and most of all, no straps getting in the way of the zippers. The design is really thoughtful. Unfortunately, at 5 ft 2 with a short torso, the s/m size... Read More was still a couple of inches too tall for me. Hope they bring this out in a shorter frame. Just one suggestion beyond that - the hip pockets are pretty flat and hard to store anything in them, especially with the way the belt sits on a smaller frame. Pockets that stick out a little more would be great!
I have the same pack in the 20 liter size for inbounds and sidecountry days or 1/2 day trips that are predictable. It's such a great pack that I got the 30 liter size for full day trips that require more stuff and that way, too, I can carry stuff for my kids in order to off load them.

The main pocket is big enough to fit plenty for a full day long tour. The ski-strap system is a breeze. I like the A-frame option so I keep a voile strap or two handy all the time.
The belt pockets are big enough for snacks and sundries so you can access them on the go. When skinning, it fits comfortably. When skiing, it sits up on my back and doesn't interfere.
Thanks for the great gear and fun days!
I just used this bag for the first time this season in the front country. While I was a little worried it might be too large for resort days, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it stayed close to my body. My favorite feature is the fully opening back panel, which is amazing when you are packing or trying to find the granola bar that found its w... Read Moreay to the bottom. My 2 complains are that the helmet holder does not really hold my helmet very tightly, and can easily slide out if I bump into something. Also the side straps have limited synching ability, and are really only best for attaching skis.
I've bought this pack three times. I have one dedicated for each activity and it makes it very easy to grab and go. Very heavy duty construction but light to hike and bike with. Also use it for work. Everything fits and is organized for quick access. Very comfortable. Will buy a fourth.
I ended up returning the snow drifter pack. I have 2 other Patagonia climbing packs. A 30L and a 40L. I love them both but would appreciate a few pockets. What I love about the climbing packs is that the straps curve and fit better, they don't rub on my arms as I walk. I love the slim lines. I am a large busted woman. My older Patagonia climbi... Read Moreng packs are the only packs I use for hiking because of the way the straps fit. Loved all the storage in the Ski Tour pack but it has straight straps like most other packs. Worried because you don't seem to making packs with curved straps any more.
Hey Debbie, thank you for the feedback. We're not entirely sure what you mean by the curved straps you mentioned, but if we're getting it right we think there might still be a couple options such as this [Black Hole Pack 32L](https://www.patagonia.com/product/black-hole-pack-32-liters/49301.html?dwvar_49301_color=CNY&cgid=luggage). If this is not what you mean, feel free to reach out to our customer service team and we'd be happy to go over other options with you.

Very nice and versatile! I like how I can also use it for a crag bag.
Very nice and versatile! I like how I can also use it for a crag bag.
This is a great ski bag. Has almost all of the features you would be looking for and the layout is really great. Only things I would change; water bottle pockets, I dont tend to use a water bladder and carrying a water bottle inside the bag is annoying. The front buckles for a vertical snowboard carry or other gear also block you from completely op... Read Moreening the snow safety pouch. You can Unclip them easily to get easier access but I wish the webbing would just be attached outside the zipper instead of in between the two main zippers.
The pack is comfortable, durable, and looks great so its definitely my go to ski bag for now.
First of all, this pack is simply cavernous. It will fit anything I need for the longest day hiking under any conditions I might encounter. The side straps are well thought out, pockets on the lumbar belt are nice. However, no bottle pocket? Really, Patagonia? ️
Hi Tom! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We're happy to hear that for the most part your satisfied with the bag. That said, we're sorry to hear about the disappointment with the lack of a water bottle pocket. We rely on feedback like this to improve products for future seasons so we'll share this with our design crew.

Really functional & nice visible colorway for safety on uphill resort climbing
lots of pockets and features to store your skinning & mountaineering gear! perfect size...not too small, not too big. Comfortable waist strap and love the little waist strap pocket to store food/snacks while climbing. Perfect!
Great pack for its intended purpose of Ski Touring, but also very multifunctional. I use this pack for climbing days at the crag as well day hikes. It's a great size to carry all of your gear for a day of touring, or even a day pack for hiking or traveling. It has everything you need and nothing you don't. I've been very pleased with... Have been using the Snow drifter for my early forays into the backcountry. The pack is easy to use and is easy to get on and off without tweaking your shoulder. Skis and shovel fit perfectly.
I was excited to have one pack that is dedicated just to skiing. It is great to have a seperate compartment for shovel, probe, saw, etc and I absolutely love the top pouches for googles, snacks, skin wax and phone. The access zip against the back is also key. Other than that, a solid backcountry ski pack that is versatile and well designed!
This bag works great for backcountry outings. I've had the bag about a month and been up Mt Hood 3 times with it so far.
I upgraded to this bag from the osprey kestra. The bags are similar in many ways but the big difference for me was fewer buckles to undo to get into the zippered back panel. (Osprey has now fixed this problem).
Pros- The ... Read Morezippered hip pockets are great for easy access to sunscreen and snacks. Good carry system for splitboarders. I can mount the board in the vertical carry which I like for the final push to summits where you don't want to spend your time assembling your board back together on the exposed peak. Nice goggle pocket. A few nice smaller zippered pockets inside organize some small tools and ski straps. The avy tool pocket works great for also carrying small ice tools like my petzl gully. The daisy chain webbing on the shoulder straps works well for mounting different water bottle holders in front like the camp flask holder. The dyanafit bottle holder took a bit of ingenuity to get mounted but that works well with small carabiner. The two main straps on the back are isolated on each side so that even if you unbuckle the strap your poles or skis mounted to the sides remain in place.
Cons- I think the avy tool pocket should have a different colored zipper to make it more easily identifiable. The sternum clip lacks a whistle which isn't a problem until you wish you had one there. The helmet carry is a bit loose for my petzl sirocco helmet and will fall out even with the straps all the way down. Probably not a problem for a larger ski helmet. I also find myself wishing the helmet carry could be done on the lid and the back panel like my osprey could do. That way I can use the pack as a seat without crushing my helmet.
Overall a good pack.
The 30L Snow Drifter pack is just the right size for a day out touring in the hills with space for everything I need. The back opening is especially helpful and the hip pockets are a very good size. It's lightweight. The only thing I would change so far is that the goggle pocket could be lined so as not to scratch the lenses.
I have broad shoulders for a female (17" versus 15"). I had tried a few packs and they all gave me shoulder pain - not this one! I'm 5'7" and the S/M sits perfectly on my hips and under my beacon. Just building my backcountry kit. So far, I love the Snowdrifter 30L. Other family members have the same pack and love it. They convinced me and my Husband to purchase ours. Can't wait for more adventures using it.
While I haven't got to use it out in the field yet, there is some much room in the pack. It is designed so well with so many features. Can't wait for some snow to get out there!
Watch the video on this bag to see all the compartments and functions and ways to use it. Fits all backcountry tools and gear nicely. I am a small woman (5”3) and the s/m fits great. first real backcountry backpack. It's light and easy to use with enough pockets and features for what you need but not overwhelming. Definitely would recommend for day trips backcountry skiing, hiking, traveling!
