I love the redesign of this. My last pair fit loose in the waist, these are nice and long with medium tight waist band. Comfortable when damp and warm enough for cold ski days or winter camping. Great for skiing!
These are true to size (I am about 5 feet 1 inch and 110 lbs) and stretchy enough to work well as a ski base layer. I found them to be warm but not sweaty because they wick moisture effectively. I recommend them for colder days. They appear slightly sheer and ribbed as a result of the grid pattern of the fleece so I can see why they are a base laye... Read Morer and not outerwear. Love these bottoms!
These bottoms are fantastic! They are warm and very comfortable. I've been wearing them almost daily since they arrived. I usually wear them under pants when I go out in the cold and sometimes I wear them to bed as PJ's. I will definitely be getting another pair if they are in stock.
Though warm- question durability.
Though I realize it was a flaw, I received these with a hole in them. Which only made me question the extremely thin material. I understand the technology behind them, and I have the top and it's super warm. But I will take these backpacking and inevitably they will be exposed (without another pair of pants over them)... Hello Rachel, thank you for the review on our Thermal Weight Bottoms. We are so sorry to hear that they arrived with a hole in them. Please know that any time something like this happens, we are always happy to send out an expedited replacement. With that said, the material should definitely still hold up, and if not our warranty does cover performance issues. We're glad to hear that you were able to find a good replacement, should any questions about this pop up in the future feel free to [reach out to us](https://help.patagonia.com/s/).
Hip-y ladies rejoice!
I have a 16 hip/waist difference and as a result just dont wear pants other than sweatpants. Even sweatpants dont typically stretch generously enough to wear them. ... Read MoreThese pants, though? AMAZING. The engineered waistband is maybe ever so slightly too large, but it tapers in enough from the hips that it doesnt slide down. Truly spectacular to be able to move and run and not worry that my pants are falling down! I only wish Patagonia cut top weight pants like this!
Very comfy except for waist band
I bought these as a sleeping layer for summer alpine backpacking so I sized up to make sure they weren't too tight. They are slightly baggy on me, which is just what I wanted, and the material is super cozy. Only problem is the waist band, which feels overengineered compared to the rest of the pant and is too tight. I'm fairly straight th... Read Morerough waist and hips and not large around my middle. Thank you for the review on our Capilene Thermal Weight Bottoms. We're sorry to hear that the waistband is uncomfortable for you. If you foresee this being an issue, feel free to send them back in to us. will keep you warm without the bulk!
For how thin these are they are shockingly warm. I wear them underneath ski bibs and the Simul Alpine Pants on cold hikes for all day warmth. Not itchy either. My only complaint is that they become a little shapeless after initial wear. The ankles don't cinch now and I find myself pulling up the waistband frequently.
I initially ordered a large, based on the size chart. When the package arrived, an XL had been sent by mistake. Contacted customer service and, based on our discussion, I ordered a medium. They shipped it to me in two days and sent me a free return label. Great service! Wonderful company!
Thin enough to see through
I expected a thicker, cozier fabric. This is much different from the same weight I bought years ago and only now need replacing. I was very disappointed and sent them back.
Hi Charlotte, thank you for taking the time to write us a review! We're really sorry to hear about the disappointment with the Thermal Weight Bottoms. With that said, we understand that they may appear thin and light weight, but they should still provide quite a bit of warmth. However, if you don't find that to be true you are welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) under warranty.
Side pockets are wide
I wear a lot of different brands in leggings/tights. Positives: warm, true to size, durable Negatives: heavy, not very stretchy, side pockets too wide for cell phone (spotify kept jumping around) & no other spot to keep it. Excellent Pant Baselayer
I am very glad I invested in the Thermal weight pant. They are warm, not restricting/skintight, and, with all Patagonia gear, reliable and consistent high quality. I am 5'1, 95 lbs, and wear size XXS in all Patagonia Capilene baselayers. Normally I wear size XS in everything else Patagonia. The length is perfect - right at the ankle. I bought ... Read Morethe Black pair, and can see how they would be considered sheer when stretched/in use due to the open-grid pattern. I wear them under an insulated or wool skirt for work or running errands, or under a shell pant for nordic skiing. I can also see myself hiking in these for those colder fall/early spring hikes, and wearing them to sleep in summer/fall camping. I also own the Mid weight pant which are considerably thinner (more of a tight/legging) and less warm. I also own the Thermal weight crew top and notice that the Thermal weight pants are thinner than the top, although just as warm. This is a great versatile piece and a staple in my winter active (and casual wear) wardrobe.
Not what I expected
There's nothing wrong with them, but based on the description as "thermal" I thought they'd be heavier weight than the medium weight crew shirt I also bought (and love). In fact, the bottoms are quite sheer, to be worn as long underwear, which also makes sense as "thermal." Anyway, I don't need this type of thing,... Read More so I returned them.
Comfy and warm!
These bottoms are phenomenal and really excited to have them in rotation for skiing! 💡Loved this treasure. Wonderful in every way. Perfectly warming, almost in an adaptogenic way. Have tried more than 11 thermal products (ever since school in Boston more than twenty years ago) and these are the first thermals I put on and comletely forgot being too cold. 💡Five Stars. At least!
These have a broad, very tight fitting waistband, with no give. However, the fit everywhere else is quite loose (although I was going for a snug fit) and the leg length isn't terribly long. While rafting the Owyhee River in SE Oregon, the thermal weight tops and bottoms kept me very warm even when I was soaked from river splash and continuous rain. Warm: Not Bulky
My husband and I are moving to Illinois, so we flew out in early March to go house hunting. I have never lived in cold weather (I’m moving from Florida). I mistakenly thought a pair of J. I had Patagonia overnight ship me these bottoms, and they were perfect. The thermals are light enough to wear under the J. Jill pants without causing bunching or adding bulk, yet they kept me perfectly warm. I will definitely buy more of these, as well as some for my husband. I was worried about sizing, but the medium fit just right. I am 5’ 4” and weigh 165. I have a muscular build from years of competitive swimming, but I am carrying about 35 pounds of extra weight in my lower body. The medium size still fit really well. I had ordered a large in the past (December 2018), but I returned it because it was too big. I highly recommend these thermals.
Warm but will tear/run (extremely sensitive!)
It's my first piece ever from Patagonia and I was so excited to take them out on a multiday hike as they're really light and space saving compared to other baselayers with similiar warmth. Warm but rip
I loved these bottoms the first time I wore them but after taking them off on the second day of wear, I discovered two holes in the crotch area along the seams. Also, the thermal is striped so the bottoms are actually kind of see through; don't plan to wear them on their own anywhere.
Comfortable, warm, lightweight and long enough!
I am 5'8' and I have very long legs so every single pair of leggings I own are short on me and don't even go past the ankle, however, these capilene leggings are actually long enough that they go past my ankle! I originally purchased these because the tag said "Wear alone or as a base layer". They are too see through to wear alone and I purchased them in the navy color. Bought these specifically for snowmobiling. Thighs are always ice cold and I hate the bulk of everything you have to wear to stay warm. My son swears by Patagonia since his trip to Iceland. Why do you make it hard to love you?
Dear Patagonia. I love you. I really do. But why do you make it so hard? How many women in these reviews say "I have athletic thighs." We get after it. We are quadzillas. Does your model have athletic thighs? No. Do I but a pair of bottoms without being able to see the rear first? No. What gives?
I really love the feel of these, and wanted to love them to death, but there are two big detractors: - They're a bit see-through,so you won't want to wear them as standalone leggings unless they're loose on you (which defeats the purpose of base layer leggings) - The waistband seems oddly loose. Great Warm Active Base layer
I usually wear these under a softshell pant while skiing (generally cross country on cabin trips and longer day trips). I'm torn on these. While I don't like the fact that they are see-through due to the striped construction of the fleece inside, they are *very* comfortable and fit great -- including, for me,the waistband.
