Use it daily with my toddler on our bicycle commute. Has kept her dry in multiple rain situations. It’s a shell so make sure to size correctly in order to wear something warm beneath.
I'll start with saying how much I love Patagonia. I think their clothes and outdoor gear is top quality. I purchase my children's jackets from here, as they stand the test of time. I also love to hand down my son's gear to my daughter, so worth the investment. This rain jacket is a great example. While it is thin as just a shell, I d... Read Moreon't mind. We layer underneath with base layers and fleece hoody on cold days and as is for the warmer weather. I like the sturdy fit and the length of the jacket as well. I know she will get a few seasons of wear in this, and I always buy 1 size up. We tried this out yesterday in a very wet and windy day out in London and it kept her dry and warm! Great investment once again from Patagonia.
I bought this for my two year old, the fit is awesome, its extremely well-made, looks really sharp, and its going to last for the next kid. We take it hiking in the rain, to the beach, and in the woods, they keep some dry and warm, and he actually gets compliments on what a sharp jacket.
LOVE this rainshell. Our son wore it to outdoor preschool all last SEATTLE winter - its the wettest of the wet and muddy too which the coat rocked. It is unfortunately chilly too and the pockets could be better equipped for tiny ice cube hands needing a warm, cozy spot to land.
I got my son the 4 in 1 coat this year because its waterproof shell h... Read Moreas fantastic pockets with a soft lining and the opening is oriented for easy hand insertion.
The Torrentshell pockets arent lined inside but more importantly, the pocket flap opens the wrong way so it is both hard to slip a hand in and doesnt protect from rain nearly as well. Seems like an easy design fix.
Overall I prefer the Torrentshell because the coat itself is unlined and easy to rinse off mud - the 4 in 1 has an interior liner that mud collects on and is frankly too fancy a coat for my kiddo. He will utterly destroy it in the mud. The Torrentshell is way sturdier. But, the warm pockets are a must because strangely there appears to be no such thing as waterproof gloves for tiny kid hands. Its the Achilles heel of outdoor preschool. I have yet to find a satisfactory way to keep tiny hand warm and dry.
Whoever makes water proof gloves for toddler hands will make a fortune with so many outdoor preschools happening due to the pandemic.
Patagonia, you are wonderful in so many ways, and really are tops for quality and design. Can you please also help keep kiddos hands warm and dry?
Also, LOVE the blue footed booby bird pattern it is so silly and fun.
Keep up the good work! Thanks!
I bought the Blue-footed Booby rain jacket for my grandson. Not only is it functional but it is absolutely adorable, as is all the Patagonia kids stuff!
Overall nice jacket. It would be nice to get helmet compatible hoods one day on these toddler jackets, but the hood fits okay underneath a bike helmet. Also the main zipper is a little difficult sometimes which is less than ideal during inclement weather with a moving toddler. Otherwise great.
We always buy true to size knowing patagonia runs a bit big but gives my kids room to grow into what we buy. It still always fits because they have the best elastic, but it will run long or looser around the body. But its perfect for outerwear especially because when you live somewhere cold you need to be able to layer. Its the best!
