Versatile Coat for Chicago weather
I bought one of these coats about 15 years ago. After a decade of it getting me through Chicago winters, I finally retired it and bought a replacement. So, yes-- the coat is pricey-- but it is well made and it will last long enough to make it worth the money. I have worn this coat so much that I know, just by looking at the weather report, how I wi... Read Morell wear it. Cool, clear fall day in the 50's? Just the inner jacket. Rainy warm spring day?Outer shell. Temperature dipping into the 40's? Maybe with sleet, snow, or "wintery mix?" Then Inner jacket + outer shell (regardless of precipitation, the outer shell makes a great wind break and gives you a bit of extra warmth). Temperature getting into the 30's? Full Coat plus hat & gloves. Into the 20's? Full coat plus hat, gloves, and heavy scarf. Below 20? All of the above plus long underwear. In Chicago, I basically wear some version of this coat every day from October through April. I'm 5'2" and wear a small. The sleeves hit about an inch below my wrist-- a tiny bit long, but workable. My only complaint is that now that I'm older, and have gained a bit of weight, the coat is tight through the tummy and hips (particularly with layers). For context: under 130 lbs, the coat fit very well. At 135, it was getting snug. Now that I'm around 140, the coat is stretching at the seams. (I wish Patagonia would make this coat in petite sizing. A regular medium fits me in the hips but is way too long in the arms. What I really need is a petite medium). Pockets are deep enough to hold a regular size cell phone (but not an extra large one). I can also stuff a pair of thin gloves or a beanie into the pockets when needed. The slight tuck at the hips gives the coat a nice feminine shape. One feels a little bit less like a giant walking sleeping bag. (but when you really layer up, or stuff the pockets full, that feeling is hard to avoid no matter what you wear). Great coat. You'll wear it forever. But please, Patagonia, add some petite sizes to your clothing! I am 5'2" and I want to keep wearing your clothes even when I am no longer an XS or S.

Versatile and warm
I am writing this after owning the similar Vosque for 5 years, so this is a comparison review. I loved my Vosque and sent it in for repair. Patagonia sent a gear credit back (!! After 5 years even!!), but sadly the Vosque wasnt available in my size. The Tres is what I ended up with and thought it would be a good solution for my only complaint with ... Read Morethe Vosque - that I got cold in the middle of winter (North central Idaho a bit before the panhandle starts). Well, I do believe I solved that issue! And May actually use the 3-in-1 features as a result. The inner coat on the Tres is a lot warmer and may mean I have to remove it during our wet springs. This may actually prove that I like the look of the Tres less. The inner coat is thicker so the outer coat is larger. This means without the inner coat, the outer one will be bulky. I like that its H2No (the Vosque could get soaked through if it was pouring) and the stretch material may help cut down on the bulkiness, but Im still expecting a rounder profile. This is also true with the inner coat zipped in - my profile isnt as sleek. Theres a reason for it (warmth), but its a thing and worth mentioning. So while reviews say this runs a bit small, Id say it runs true to size. The fit is actually the same as the Vosque, but it feels smaller due to the liner. The hood needs to be deeper. I loved the hood on the Vosque (have a ponytail? No worries, still got you covered!) and know the Tres hood wont work as well. 5 ft 10 in, 170 lbs and I bought the XL. The L would have been SNUG, but doable. I purchased on Worn Wear, so its the 2018 Tres. Smolder blue is very dark blue-grey. Id say the pics are accurate for *bright* natural light.

Warm & Rain Proof!
This 3-in-1 is just awesome. Its warm, waterproof w shell in on and the liner coat is lightweight and warm for cool southern cal evenings. Not warm enough
While this is a lovely looking coat when it comes to fit and style and even the color, this was not warm enough for cold and snowy WI Weather. I also found the inner coat to be too thin, so unfortunately, I need to exchange it for something heavier and warmer and more wind proof.

Hi Sarita, the Tres 3-in-1 Parka is a great option for freezing rain to fluffy snow, but it's not the warmest option we have. We suggest taking a look at or [Women's Downdrift Parka](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html). It's one of our warmest options, made for all winter conditions and prolonged outdoor exposure.
not warm enough for Boulder, CO
i really wanted to love this jacket because of its versatility, but unfortunately i am returning it for a different parka. when i wear both layers, it was not warm enough for Boulder winter because the outer layer is looser and allowed some cold in. when i wore the inner layer only, it was actually warmer because it was a bit more snug, but this la... Thank you so much for writing this review and we are very sorry to hear that this parka was returned. Please note, feather leakage does tend to happen in items with insulation, if you would like to avoid more feathers from being released we would recommend pulling them back into the fabric to avoid making holes larger. With that said, please rest assured that we will be passing this along to our Product Design Team so they are aware of these issues. I like this type of
I like this type of coat a lot. I bought a new one because my original is starting to show its age. This one fits a lot smaller. I've been buying Mediums for years and this one runs small. The older one fits the samr so it isn't me. If you want to wear a sweater under it, go up a size if you're purchasing online.
Nice coat, used to be better
I bought this parka 6 years ago and then a second one this winter for my daughter. The first I bought has much more down in the sleeves and is thus much warmer. That cot still looks and performs like the day I bought it. With this years version my arms get cold. Disappointed that quality is not the same.
NOT WARM ENOUGH
The Dusky Brown color is pretty and it's stylish. But I found the jacket stiff, tighter than a regular M, and not warm enough for winter Oregon weather. The Down With It parka is much warmer but I want a water-repellent jacket--so returned Tres and am trying out the Jackson Glacier jacket.
All you need
Absolutely love the Tres 3 in 1. Love to use this on the cold/wet days of winter. Just enjoyed this parka on a chilly trip to Northern Europe and it was the perfect parks for the cold conditions. I was dry and very toasty. Love the design of having 3 options in 1 parka.
Love this very warm coat
I bought this even though I only live in SF and dont really need a heavy coat. However, it was on sale and its been cold here lately. I love it - its just the right length to keep my butt warm and is rain proof. Ive gotten a lot of compliments on it already. And the price actually went down after I bought it and I got a price adjustment!!
Not your Average Rain Coat!
So Climate change is now upon us. It is now colder and wetter than since the 80s.. but now it seems to be even colder. Wind chill does not help with the cold, it just makes it colder outside. I love the cold because I get to wear coats and scarves, however it has been so cold that my legs are freezing as well. My long coat is not made for the cold ... Read Morerain storms and as a result I looked to getting this coat. The price point is high and I was looking for a sale. Once the sale was on I was all over getting this coat. This is one of many Patagonia coats I have. The liner jacket is so nice and warm, the h2no repels water beautifully, it just beads off the coat. In addition I love the longer length. It keeps the tops of my legs nice and dry like the rest of me. I absolutely love this coat and will give this plenty of use.
Great Jacket, Bad Fit
I loved this jacket and the color. Unfortunately, it just didn't work for my body. It was too big in the shoulders and the sleeves were way too long. So much so that I don't think sizing down would have made a difference. And for a coat this pricey, it has to be perfect. I wish Patagonia had petite sizes!

I nearly always wear an XS in Patagonia, but O ordered and XS in this jacket and wearing a flannel shirt and light sweater underneath, the sleeves cut off the circulation in my arms! I understand that I'm talking about two different styles, but a "fitted" cut vs. a "roomy" cut should not be that far apart.
I had to exchange this
I had to exchange this coat which was a large for an extra large. These coats are sized for slim fit. Most Americans are normal size, not slim.

Hey Amantha, thanks for the review. We carry our parkas and jackets in a few different kinds of fits: form fitting, slim, regular and relaxed. The fit has less to do with your actual size and more with how you'd like the garment to sit on the body. You can check the fit of any item by looking underneath the size range options on the product page. The new design ruins the fit!
I have worn and loved this coat for 10 years, but when I went to repurchase it, the new design changes made the arms just too tight enough that I can't bend my elbows fully, even when wearing only one thin shirt underneath. This is the perfect jacket for me; long enough to keep my thighs warm, water and wind proof, warm 700 down fill, ability to zip from the bottom to allow more mobility if needed, 3 in 1 design to accommodate the weather conditions, slim and flattering fit for slender bodies, adjustable hood and nice looking! Great coat, great color (red is more of a berry) I love that the coat fit close to the body and i have great freedom of movement. I bought the coat for playing with my kids, dog and hiking. I would not wear this coat dead of winter in the north east but great when its in the 40s/ 50s. My issue is the sleeves are too short. This is a common problem... Read More for me so its not a complete shock. There is another well made brand that covers the sleeve issue so I was hopeful here.. my first time buying patagonia. Second Time's the Charm
I purchased this product in a large and found it was incredibly tight. I usually wear a medium jacket from Patagonia, so I was surprised, but I returned it and received a large, which fits like my medium in another style. I wish I'd sized up by two sizes from the beginning, but I adore the style and warmth of this jacket.
Warm and Dry
I live in the Pacific Northwest with lots of rainfall from early fall all the way to June and days when we don't get out of the '40s, maybe not even out of the 30s. I purchased this for primarily for dog walking, or city park trail walking, with friends and that pace is slow enough to require real water proof coverage to a parka length. A... The down lining is especially nice because it is purpose made to fit the shell. Since the down lining may be removed it extends the use of the shell for those times when down would be too warm. I really like it. The only thing which would enhance it in my opinion is a bright, highly visible color. Yellow, orange? Black and dark colors are too muted for traffic safety in our climate. One bit of luck with regard to the color - Basin Green was available only in Slim Fit, which is perfect because Large is too large!
Warm and flattering
I love this and lucked out as I got it on sale. It has a slim fit, as described. The chicory color is lovely and the inner down coat is a slightly different color which is a bonus. I hope to move back to Vermont this year and I think it'll be really useful there.
Not like it used to be
I replaced my 8 year old Tres Parka with a new one and am disappointed by the drastic change in quality. My previous coat was sturdy and I never had any issues with comfort or quality. The much lower level of quality is what concerns me.

Good for rainy cold season
This jacket is very fitted/slim cut so it fits smaller than sized. It worked perfect for me because I have wider shoulders and am between sizes. Jacket does its job worn as shell, just the inner thin puffy, or together. Ideal for PacNW chilly, drizzly weather.
Good looking coat
Love the look of the coat. For subzero days plus windchill it does OK. For the price though the zipper should have a cover and not be touching my bare neck and wish the inside jacket sleeves had an extended hobo section for hand coverage (the substantially cheaper coat I replaced had both of those).
I absolutely love the style and shape of this jacket, but the size runs absurdly small. I usually wear a size medium, but I sized up to a large so I could comfortably wear a sweatshirt underneath it. Unfortunately, the jacket is incredibly small.

Love the maroon color of outer shell and overall fit of the jacket. But with both layers of coat together and dressed for winter, it is a bit sung. Favorite Parka Ever
Elegant (I receive many compliments), warm, and totally waterproof. With the liner in, the parka works from 50 degrees to single digits. (A good Irish sweater helps.) Fantastic quality coat, but more of a slim fit than hoping for
I gave this coat 4 stars because it really is excellent quality and seems like it would be very warm and I love the versatility of a 3-in-1 parka. If I was just wearing this over something lightweight, it would be perfect. For me personally I found that I prefer a looser fit to allow room for bulky layers, but if a slim fit is more your style this is an excellent option. Have returned because too form-fitting
I am returning this product for a refund because it runs too narrow for me. I like this product very much but wish it came in a version that was less form-fitting. I need the jacket to fit loosely enough to be able to layer a sweater underneath.
its a very nice looking coat and very warm, pleased about that but it only comes in a slim fit so its very snug, no extra holiday pounds allowed. Once zipped up its sharp looking, I hae not taken the lining jacket out yet bit imagine it will fit a little more comfortable without it, but then wont be as warm.

Im keeping the jacket because I removed the tag, work from home and also have other jackets to wear in fall/spring, but for this price point and wind resistent description, I expected it to be just that without the down insert. I live in Chicago, next to the lake where it is especially cold and windy during the winter. For about 8 years I used the Downtown Loft Parka and loved it. It was -20 degree wind chill, snowing in all directions. The coat kept me warm and dry. I had also tried on the Frozen Range Parka, but I liked the fit for Tres Parka a little more, and found the hood for the Frozen Range too overwhelming. If you have an opportunity to try it on, I would recommend trying on the jacket all zipped together, and then the outer shell and inner shell separately. My only complaint is that the inner shell alone is a little too tight. When all zipped together fits great, and the outer shell alone fits great. I had this issue with both the small and medium size. Despite this, I've been very happy with my purchase.

I love the cut of the coat, it is flattering in addition to being a very practically constructed coat. I got the coat in a lovely deep reddish purple color. With how grey and dark it is in Seattle winter, this extra color makes me happy. It can be hard to find a coat of this quality in any colors besides grey or black. I imagine that when the weather warms in the Spring being able to separate the shell from the puffy interior coat with give excellent options for a lighter coat.
