Protect the ocean so it can protect us

Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

So far a great product! So far survived the wet Dutch weather.

Classic fit, looks good, and works well

Title says it all. This is a good pick for winter and I also use it for cold spring rains. Have not had it for fall yet; prob going to be a 3 season jacket.

The best jacket you'll ever own

It's really well made, you can tell the company cares a lot about the quality of all the small appointments in the jacket (snaps that hold the two layers together, ties that keep the hood and jacket tight, etc.). Feels like it'll last forever and so far has been extremely warm and durable. Can't recommend it highly enough. If you&#x2... Excellent coat

The coat seems very well made. After a few months, none of the zippers or snaps are showing any sign of malfunctioning. It fits well, and keeps me warm and dry. I like all of the internal/chest pockets. My only (minor) complaint would be that the lower external pockets aren't in the most comfortable position for resting one's hands.

February 25, 2023

tres 3 versus 3 in one

Replaced a 3 in one shell that had the zipper fail with the Tres 3 in one. I like the regular zipper opposed to the smaller zipper of the 3 in one. Also, Tres 3 parka is lower which I prefer. Prefer the pockets too. Two breast and two side along with plenty of pockets in the down liner. Fabric is more breathable while the 3 in one seemed tougher. F... February 16, 2023

Disappointing. Jack of all and master of none.

I bought this jacket with hopes of it being one of my best purchases in 2023. Unfortunately, there are several things that drastically impact this parka's performance. 1. It's not warm. This can be subjective from person to person, however with 700 fill power down and a wind/waterproof layer on both the rain jacket shell and the inner l... Read Moreining, I expected to be significantly warmer. For context, I'm wearing a t-shit, medium-weight long-sleeve henley, and a quarter zip fleece, and waiting out in 35F weather. It was still cold. If I bent my arms, I could feel the cold shell through the down-insulated jacket underneath. 2. Pockets. This a common complaint in the reviews I've read. These pockets are placed horizontally and with thick, chunky plastic teeth to zip them up with a flap that is sewn on one of the sides. this makes wearing the shell+liner in the winter, or the shell when it's raining, completely impractical. It makes for an awkward unnatural front positioning, and the plastic chunky teeth are annoying to graze past when putting your hands in the non-insulated pockets. Yes, the pockets are not insulated and are the only ones you can stick your hands in for the shell. They do have a soft lining, though. 3. The hood. The hood is small, hard, and also impractical. The hood barely goes past your face and is not insulated. This is supposed to be one of Patatgonia's warmest jackets, however, the hood is just the shell. When the wind is blasting this hood, expect the shell to get extremely cold, which then transfers to your head. Make sure you don't forget a hat. 4. The shell. If you're using just the shell for rain, it's not practical. It's thick, heavy, and uncomfortable to move around in. 5. It runs small. Winter clothing should avoid being pressed up on to the skin as to reduce the transfer and withdrawal of heat from you body. having space is important. I'm a 5'5" and 135lbs man, if I bend over or stretch my back, it starts to get tight (especially with the shell+liner). I understand Patagonia is updating this model for next fall, here are some of my suggestions: 1. Remove the sewn sides of the pocket flaps to allow for a more comfortable movement of hands into pockets. it's annoying when it feels like there is something in the way of your hands entering your pockets every time you try to put them in. 2. Remove the zippers. Why are they there? You're not running around in a winter jacket and the pocket are deep and flexible enough to safely contain any contents, plus the flap locks things in, anyway. Remove the zippers, cut the sewn part of the flaps and replace with velcro. My ultimate suggestion here is to combine the torrent shell with the down hoody.

Hello Chandler, thank you for this thorough and detailed review, we'll share your thoughts with our product design team. You mentioned one thing in your review that we'd like to touch on. While this parka would work great for some people/conditions/temperature ranges, it doesn't seem to be working well for your needs. We do have a warmth index, which is a 1–10 scale of the relative warmth of Patagonia jackets and vests, calculated by materials testing performed in our lab. The higher the score, the warmer the garment. The Tres falls about midway on this scale coming in at a 6.8, so it won't be our warmest parka for casual use. Our warmest parka for casual use would actually be the Frozen Range which ranks in at a 8.9. Unfortunately, we have sold out but we do have some available on Worn Wear which you can check out [here](https://wornwear.patagonia.com/shop/search?q=frozen%20range).

Warm, Dry, Fly

Love the versatility and style of this jacket kit. I live in the PNW and it's perfect for year-round wear. If you need one jacket that'll serve several roles that looks stylish enough for work, get this kit.

Light and not crunchy

I wanted a robust, yet flexible winter coat, and this one certainly fit the bill. I am in the lighter side (130#s, 5ft 10in). The XS felt tight at the armpit, and the S fit right without feeling too bulky. I was afraid the fabric would be heavy and crunchy, but surprisingly, its is very pliant. I gather it would feel worse when the weather is really cold. I gather Ill be using gloves though, so that should minimize the feel of the zipper. Thank goodness it is a plastic zipper and not a metal one. The front chest pocket is a key requirement. I love the pockets, on both sides. The internal jacket is also very nice and light, with the two pieces together not feeling bulky at all.

I had to return it - down-filling comes through the shell

I made this review in January-21 when I returned the item, but it was not published potentially due to a direct competitor reference. The problem was that the down-filling comes through the shell, which was quite disappointing f... Read Moreor the price. In addition, although the jacket is highly stylish, I was disappointed with versatility as compared to another brand that I bought long time ago not available anymore. I can live with the versatility issue as this jacket has additional features that can make up what is missing in addition to being more stylish, but leaking of down-filling, was the deciding factor. I just wonder if it has been improved since then as I contemplate to order it again. Having said that I have just seen at least another review that brings up the issue of the inner jacket "losing a lot of its down and no longer providing the same insulation."

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We're sorry to hear that liner jacket is leaking down! You may be able to keep them in place by pulling them back into the baffle from the other side, and then firmly rubbing the fabric with your thumbs to “heal” any hole that has formed. Great winter coat for upstate NY elements!

I was attracted by the reputation of the brand. I was sick of buying cheap coats every winter and them not being good quality or warm enough to last. January 14, 2023

Love 3-in-1 coats

The fit and finish are top notch. The quality is fantastic. Its very warm and keeps water out. Only downside I would say is it lacks inner pockets other than the stuff pocket on the liner. Some lower pockets on the inside would be great. Outside pockets are very well placed. Overall very happy with my purchase.

Love this coat

This jacket is awesome! So well made, stylish, modern, light, dry, warm, wind proof, comfortable. The green is a lovely colour. Beautiful Jacket - its professional looking jacket that will keep you very warm.

The down insert of the jacket is very warm and is great to wear to work when its not rainy/snowing. The outside shell is a beautiful material that keeps you dry, and looks good. It has a longer length which is great. The jackets warn zipped together are very warm, and ideal for winter weather walks into work when its below 40 deg outside.

December 25, 2022

Warm and comfortable a few things could make it better.

The jacket is warm and comfortable. Things I think would make it better: Interior pocket stuff sack feels like its going to pop when you shove the jacket into itself. A good interior pocket on both layers would take this over the top. I like to put a phone or wallet under there instead of on the outside. A slightly wider mouth on all of the pockets. Super Warm, very versatile and weatherproof

Hi J, thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We're really sorry to hear that the internal liner was lost, and for the disappointment that they aren't sold separately. Very versatile, full featured, and slightly stylish warm wear

I am fortunate to have a few Patagonia daily drivers for various activities and uses. For my 20-40 degree daily driver and one jacket for business travel to cold places, I am particular for a certain set of priorities (see title). The old Style of the 3-1 Tres was perfect in style but it was not waterproof at all and would get waterlogged when wet. I decided to go with the Frozen Range because I run cold anyway and for lighter weather trips I could bring a nano puff and storm outer layer. Perfect decision. Thank you Patagonia for letting me swap out my old Tres due to it holding water. I love the insulated hoot, the high cut of the collar, and all materials, and the minimal styling on the jacket. Very warm but if you wear it open it can be worn easily in 20-40 weather in and outdoor.

Response from Patagonia
March 24, 2022

Hey Jason, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We'd like to touch on a couple points you've made here. For the storm flap over the zipper, the shell of this parka is waterproof including the flap. Regarding the liner, it should still work in certain scenarios but what it does work for will vary from person to person. The 3-in-1 feature is that you can use the shell or liner as stand-alones, or wear them together. The shell is the waterproof feature, it would not make sense for both the shell and the liner to be waterproof, though the liner does have a water repellent finish. No part of this jacket is reversible. For more information on features, we recommend checking out the specs & features tab on the product page, all of this information plus more will be outlined. Proven and versatile

I had a previous version of this parka for 10 years, and unfortunately it was accidentally destroyed. The Patagonia warranty department helped me replace it with this new version. It's largely the same, which is great given how much I liked the old one, but there are few changes worth noting. First is that the inner puffer jacket now has elas... Read Moretic cuffs on the sleeves. For casual wear, I prefer open cuffs, so that's not my favorite. Second is that the pockets on the shell are significantly different. My old version had pockets with vertically-oriented zippers on the side of the jacket, in the normal place where you'd expect a zipper if you wanted to put your hands in your pockets. On the new one, the pockets are more towards the front, and the zippers are a lot more horizontal. Which means when you put your hands in them, you kind of have to stick your hands straight down, which I find pretty unnatural. In addition, there's a flap covering the pockets, and the zippers on the pockets have large, chunky plastic teeth. If it's cold out and your hands are raw, fighting the flaps and dragging your skin along those teeth is not very pleasant. The pockets seem like they are designed more for storage than for hands at this point. I expect to get many years of use out of this new parka, and I know it will keep me warm and protected, but the odd choices around those front pockets drop it from 5 stars to 3 stars for me.

As far as cold it got down to the teens in temperature and I wore a wool base layer and hoodie and I was fine. Along with patagonia long underwear, scarf, beanie etc..on the warmer days.. just a shirt under was fine. Or if it wasnt looking like rain or snow I would just use the puffy. Lots of options. Seemed fine quality wise.. never got stuck might be nice to have bigger ones because with gloves on it was hard to zip up. Also with the outer portion being a shell you dont get much insulation in the hood but I guess thats what you get with the versatility of a 3-1. I dont think you will be disappointed at all if you purchase this. Looking forward to many warm trips for years to come.

Amazing Jacket!

As with every Patagonia Jacket I have owned I am very happy with this item. Wearing as insulated parka it is very warm and looks stylish. I love how it is 3 jackets in 1 and you can wear either layer on its own as light outer shell or down jacket. Considerably lightweight for how heavy duty/warm it is. Highly recommend.

Hi Johnathan, thank you for taking the time to write a review for this parka. According to our product specs the inner jacket, the one that zips out, is supposed to have magnetic snap flaps on the handwarmer pockets. If your parka doesn't have them please feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Team to discuss an exchange.

Great jacket, but can't see quality lasting long

Really great jacket, great colour and fits well. So so warm, went into the mountains of Romania with it and was pretty warm. Amazing Jacket

I bought this parka as someone who moved Texas to Minnesota and it has not disappointment. It is really warm and comfortable to wear. I wore it in -15 degree weather today and I was pretty warm. I also get a lot of compliments on the jacket! Highly recommended if you are willing to spend the $$

Overall Great jacket

This jacket is so comfortable and versatile. The only thing I dont love are the pockets on the parka part which as a a matter of personal taste I wish were angled and a little higher. I also would not mind an extra small inner for pocket on each of the parka and the puffer.

Keeps the cold out while not being overly bulky

Absolutely love the dark green color. The coat is very warm and stylish at the same time. The length of the outer shell keeps the cold and wind off your bottom without being too long. Nice the insert jacket is shorter than the outer coat so you can wear it for winter sports. This coat is a good all around, multi purpose choice for cold winters.

Thanks for your review, Andrew. We're very sorry the Tres 3-in-1 Parka wasn't warm enough for you. This is exactly why we cannot temperature rate our garments - everyone's bodies are different! I've only had the 3 in 1 Parka for a few weeks. So far its held up well in +35 degrees F with rain / wet snow. I was dry and warm. I bought this coat this coat because it had a two way zipper and a zip out liner. These were common features of winter coats up until 5 years ago. It's been mild so far here in Maine this winter and I've been wearing the liner as a top layer. It's nice and you don't get too warm even when you go out in the upper 40s. However, just the other day I popped outside to walk the pups in the liner as you do and thought "oh it's nice out, I'll be fine sans gloves/ha... Read Moret". Reader, it was not nice out. My torso, however, was toasty warm. I checked the temp, it was 19 degrees. I went outside in 19 degrees with no hat or gloves because in just the LINER of this coat it felt like the upper 50s. So. Lesson learned: check the temp before putting the coat on.

What's up with the pockets?

I love the 3-in-1 concept and bought the first version in the early 2000's. So I'm rooting for this coat and really want it to be the biggest and best purchase of my year. I've had to put off this purchase for a few years because they certainly aren't cheap. I finally broke down and bought it a couple of weeks ago. Patagonia has... Read More pretty universally taken away the concept of inside pockets in coats. And even in the 2 or 3 coasts where they haven't (frozen range parka) the inside pocket is more like an interior tent pouch than a coat pocket. Now on most of your coats, there is only an inside chest pocket, but no interior, large, waist level pockets for stocking hats, gloves, hand warmers, travel items, charging cords, etc. And to make this even more insulting, putting one or two those items in the two exterior pockets on this specific coat - or even simply resting my hands in them - with the oversized flaps is also really awkward and not ergonomic positioning. There wasn't enough overall length from the 3-in-1 Lone Mountain to cover a blazer (but that coat had excellent intuitive outside pockets that my hands slip into easily) but it also had no inside pockets. So, ultimately, I went with this coat because I was needing to replace my very old and crumbling, 3-in-1 that I have worn and fixed and worn and fixed for 10+ years. My final summation is that these coats have become really, really costly and then to find out you've stripped out essentials like interior pockets was enough motivation to make a 20+ year fan of ALL things Patagonia to write a product request disguised as a review - Bring Back the Pockets! to all of your shells, coats and other outerwear. What were you thinking?
