Superlightweight yet durable, nylon is one of the strongest materials we use in our garments and equipment.

Nylon is one of the strongest plastics we use in our garments and equipment. When we need a superlightweight yet durable fabric, it’s critical that we use nylon for its strength and moisture-wicking properties.

We’re making progress

We’re reducing our dependence on petroleum as a raw material source.

Nylon makes up only 3% of the entire material we used in our products this season

Where We Are

We still use a great deal of nylon, but most of that has now switched to recycled sources: for Spring 2020, 3% of Patagonia’s entire material usage by weight includes virgin nylon.

What’s Next

Like polyester, nylon fiber is made from petroleum. Our goal is to stop using petroleum-based fabrics and materials.
