Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Very flexible and comfortable
Although I am usually a 32 waist, the pant was way too tight around my athletic thighs. Even thought it was that tight it was super flexible and worked well on one hiking trip, but decided to exchange it for 33 which is a little more of a relaxed fit around the thighs. Also very breathable and comfortable!
Husband LOVES these
Husband is 6 ft and a 33, and he loves these. He's ordered 3 pairs, 2 tan , 1 slate. Wears the slate more often. Not someone who wears shorts ever, and he loves that these are detachable legs. Durable, we live in the redwoods so these are great for everything from hiking to heavy yard, and housework.
I have tried many convertible
I have tried many convertible pants, these Quandary convertibles are in a league of their own, SUPERIOR! These pants hold up to the extreme conditions of professional mountaineering photography! They are like an old friend in the field, reliable, dependable, with give and take! Love them! I own two pairs so I always have a back up! K&K
Very Comfortable Fit
Generally I buy 34x34. These are 34 - Reg (32) but in my experience Patagonia doesnt skimp on sleeve or pant length. The length is perfect. The waist isnt restrictive and fits like a 34. They are to the lighter side with some stretch and for a convertible pant the perfect weight fabric. Legs come off and reattach easily and they just look good in m... Read Morey opinion. Wore them on a 19+ mile hike and they did great and allowed me to stay comfortable in the cool morning and then shed the legs for the warmer afternoon. Could not be happier.
Comfortable and Flexible; A Little Too Slim
The pants are sleek, comfortable/soft and very flexible. However, the pants are a little too snug. I have muscular thighs from running and hiking and it makes it difficult finding pants that fit just right. I would recommend the pants be offered in a regular fit or make the slim fit a little less slim.
I have been buying Patagonia products for almost 30 years. The fit is consistent, good, the product very durable, and something that I have unrelentingly recommended to my friends and family. These two pants are no exception. While not winter related, I travel a lot overseas, and I need good, lightweight, durable products, that I can quickly clean ... I ordered these pants a while ago hoping I could wear them at work. Turns out they are super comfy and I also wear them hiking and camping too. Super slim fit and weird material
Went to my local shop to try on before ordering. Tried on a 30 was a bit too big so I went online to order a 28. I own a pair of Patagonia zipped knee hiking pants from maybe 7 years ago. Flawless design back then. Only this far in the future have I considered replacing them. Im going to try a 30 to give Patagonia another chance but the newer design makes me hesitant to and Ill prob switch to another outdoor gear competitor but hoping I wont have to and the 30 isnt so tech stretchy. Further salt in the wound site says the product is only available for return not exchanged so I have to eat the return shipping when exchanges are usually free shipping. I dont think I could have even made some of the larger high step trails on the east side with these on. Cuff at the pant was weird too very slim and doesnt allow for high shin short pant roll up style. overall looked more like a fashion piece than a functional piece. Im also orig from a very large midwestern city so I admire fashion but this doesnt work for a practical hiking pant. Weird thing is the waste fits well but the rest of the pant is almost jegging slim.
Well made zipper leg pants
Great pants with good quality. Light, comfortable, and the zip legs come off and on easily. Good fit everywhere but about an inch longer legs than usual, so that the hem touches the ground at the heel. Also the front pocket is not deep enough, so that my phone falls out when I sit down.
We appreciate your feedback and recommend that zippered thigh pocket for more secure phone storage. We do offer these [pants in a 30" inseam](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-quandary-convertible-pants-short/55245.html) if that might work better for you. Absolutely ideal pants
Bought these last summer to use camping, as I wanted something I could start off with on a cold day and be able to strip down as things warmed up. My only wish is that there were two thigh pockets, as it's a bit bulky to stuff both legs int... Read Moreo the one pocket. Cut for younger people
I am 5'10", 180. Purchased 34 regular. Fit fine at the waist but more like tights in the haunches. Felt like I was wearing a cod piece. Fabric is lightweight and stretchy. Perfect for amputees
The Quandary Convertible Pants - Reg are a comfortable, versatile, and useful garment. They are also perfect for below the knee amputees who need to frequently access their prosthetic socket to add or remove socks without having to take off their pants. One leg up; one leg down. Works great. Highly recommended.
Worth Every Penny
I was in the market for some convertible hiking pants and ultimately made the decision to go with these. It hasnt disappointed. Material feels snow pant-esque but comfortable nonetheless. I used to love the old Continental convertable pant from Patagonia. I still have a few pairs of the shorts left, the only issue was the color tended to fade so if you wore the shorts with the legs zipped off after a while the colors didn't match! These are as good, slightly better zippers and looks like the color won't fade!
Good pants, but ...
I do miss the nifty pencil pocket of an earlier edition and the classy fabric lining around the backside of the belt loops. Could also use about four more of those. Overall, the pants look very good. One of my adult children commented on my business casual hiking pants. That was a compliment, because these things are well tailored. I weigh 167 pounds and Im 510 tall, and ordered 33X 32. The shortcoming is the pants are 2 inches longer than the fit indicates. Ive worn 32X 33 or 32X 32 for the past 30 years. Wea... Love Patagonia gear and values and try to buy all my outdoor clothes here. I usually fit a 28 waist and this fit around my waist but the glutei and thighs were way too tight. Even my wife said so! Not every skinny boy is an 18yr old stick.

Narrow thighs and long at the bottom - You might need a tailor
This is my second pair of convertible pants from Patagonia, the first I got a good 10 years out of and I would still have them if I hadn't accidentally left the zip-off legs on the trail due to serious exhaustion. Perfect pant for many adventures
Purchased the Patagonia convertible pant after searching in-store and on-line for a good looking zip off pant. Great pants - comfy, stretchy material and fit. Pockets work well, having a side and rear zipper is helpful. Haven't needed to convert much, but the mechanisms seems to work well and seams aren't uncomfortable. Only downside is the drawstrings don't work too well/are kind of in the way (I use a belt instead).
I bought these for the John Muir trail. The stitching in my rear pockets began to unfurl after about a week. Unfortunately I saw two other people with the same Patagonia convertible pants with the same stitching issue.
We're sorry to hear this happened! Please feel free to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) the pants back to us under warranty.
Use them for hiking or just hanging out, they are well made and can be shorts when the temps get too hot. Only complaint was the stash pocket on the right leg, its in an awkward spot, nearly on the front of the leg, not a huge thing, but a strange location for me. Would highly recommend if you need durable hiking pants.
Great pants for travel and hiking in warm climates
I got this pants for a hiking trip in Grand Staircase Escalante in UT and they were perfect. Hot days and cool nights. Easy to convert into shorts. Fabric was a perfect balance of stretch. Slim fit, but that's what I wanted. I don't like baggy pants/shorts.
Quandary Convertible Pants
I have tried a few nylon type fabric pants, and have never been happy. THese were for hiking/backpacking and occasional wear. These Quandary ones are happily the best and what I have been looking for. For some reason the styling and fit are exceptionally nice and I will get even more wear out and about in them.
The sizing options are far too limited to meet my needs. I guess you guys call it a “short”, but whatever it is, standard options in waist and inseam would have allowed me to get the 32 x 30 I needed. These would be great pants if you happen to fit the available sizes, however limited they are.

This is my first ever Patagonia product purchase. I loved the fit, finish and feel of this pant. It is comfortable.
