These are my personal preferences, as everyone is different. I've used the jacket skiing and casual wear in temps ranging from -3 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. If you're a person who runs super hot, this could still work for you, but be prepared to sweat and find what works for you. Layer lightly, for sure but also don't freeze. Now on to the goods! I highly recommend this one if you're looking for a great alternative to a down jacket. It's super light and warm, dries fast, and layers well. It compacts down reasonably small more than most synthetic pieces. With a few minor adjustments in the neck fit, this is hands down still a bomber piece to have!
I've had this jacket for a few weeks now and it has become my go-to piece for both around town and as a belay jacket for cold days where a heavier jacket (like the Fitz Roy) isn't needed. One of the best lightweight pieces of equipment i've added to my layering system. VERY Warm, ideal for cold and windy dawn patrol mornings. Also a good dry-suit layer for long rescues in cold water.
This is as warm as my old Patagonia jacket, but half the weight, which is awesome. Light and warm
Used for Grand Canyon backpacking. Its very light weight yet super warm! I love it. Thank you.
Needs 2 more things for the perfect climbing outer
Give this an adjustable over the helmet hood and a 2 way main zipper and it's perfect as a 3 season outter most layer when climbing and alpine climbing. No need for me for the tougher shell found on the DAS Light. The micro puff fits better, has an adjustable draw chord, packs down smaller, and I already will always have a shell/wind shirt wit... Zip fell apart. Patagonia's warranty is now useless.
this is a great jacket, except that my zipper failed. it came unstitched. i tried to return it under the "ironclad" warranty. i've been a patagonia customer since about 1982 and have had to return some stuff along the way. patagonia has always been incredible about that...until now. now, they offered to fix it, but fixing the zipper ... the premise of patagonia's extremely high prices was great quality with an unbeatable warranty. this jacket is not great quality and patagonia's warranty is now barely average. it's a real shame. they were the gold standard for my whole life.
This is my 4th Micro Puff Hoody and still my favorite jacket. I've owned 3 of the previous version and this review is for the current version. Much better than the shinier vers... Read Moreion. Pluma Oil is nice and compact. Doesn't puff up like the previous "Michelin Man" version. It's as warm as ever and I really like the feel against bare skin when wearing a t-shirt. Props on adding the bottom drawstring. Allows me to trap heat in my core. Previous version was too loose in the lower part and heat escaped. Inner pockets are great for gloves or anything else you want to protect.
Two big issues: (1) As others have stated the neck area is too tight. In my case (17" neck) I can barely zip up the jacket past my neck unless I pull up the zipper super hard to get it past my chin. Even then it's so tight it pushes my lower jaw back uncomfortably so this function is useless for me. This is a weird sizing problem that needs to be fixed in production. (2) The main zipper is still sticky. You need to be sure the zipper is straight before trying to either zip it up or down. Any kink in the zipper will meet resistance, not to mention frustration. This was also a major problem in the original version of this jacket which caused the zipper track to separate from the jacket which had me returning 2 of them for replacements. This is why I'm rating the jacket 4 stars although the overall fit is perfect for me.
Overall it's a great product and still remains my favorite. Try the jacket on first to verify fit and that the neck closure works for you. Mine were all purchased online as they weren't available in the stores.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review Ed! We truly appreciate your feedback and we will make sure to pass them along to our Product Design Team so they may look into fixing these issues in future seasons.

Warm
M's Micro Puff Hoody is used as a base layer under my regular ski jacket. I love the jacket because it has a hood that fits over my helmet and protects me on those cold days. It is an excellent product and very well-made.
Fit is ok, but ultimately I need a large tall rather than an XL.
Warmth - to me, not enough, about the same as nano puff.
Since insulation is only ~20% of the weight, Id prefer something say 20% heavier, but twice as warm, and well differentiated from nano, which is cheaper.
We're sorry to hear that the fit isn't ideal with this jacket. We recommend returning it to your local Patagonia-owned retail store or you can also use our [online return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) path. Our Micro Puff uses a synthetic insulation that most closely mirrors the qualities of down insulation, so it's a bit warmer and more compressible than our Nano Puff. We hope this helps, but don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team if you have any additional questions. We're happy to help!

Comfortable and Lightweight
This is a very versatile jacket. I like that its thin enough to layer but warm enough to wear by itself. I personally think the pockets are up a little higher than Id like but it doesnt effect the jacket in anyway.
Worn it on a few outing so far. I paired it with a wool sweater for a fishing outing in 15 degree weather. It blocked the wind and kept me warm enough to fish. Great for backcountry skiing as well. Ive had a Nanopuff jacket for some years- the earlier version was not quilted, this version looks better- albeit not quite as warm and that fabric seems not quite as breathable. The fit is superb, plenty sleeve length, nice pockets and hood is sufficient for cold wind
I really like the different stitching pattern on this one! Nice drop pockets, turns into a ball, and all recycled?! How you guys turn fishing nets into beautiful premium hoodies is amazing!
The material is lightweight and very warm for the weight. It's a bit swishy but overall very soft with a dull sheen. have had a prior version and loved the fit, warmth and versatility as an insulated outer layer into mid 20°s. NJ has had a couple single digit polar blasts this winter and under a shell or even a down sweater this has kept me toasty. Liked so much I bought a second.

Almost perfect
I love the fit of this jacket. 6ft 2in and 200-210lbs and it is a great outer layer or mid layer when it is super cold. I think the Micro would be awesome if it kep all of its current features - but added an adjustable helmet hood and 2 way zipper. Nearly free additions and minimal added weight and it is a sure winner. I ended up returning the DAS Light and the Micro puff in hopes that the Micro puff will someday soon have those additions mentioned above so I can buy it and use it for my intended purpose as an outer layer on summer climbs, and as a bonus mid layer in my bellow 0F backcountry trips in MN and greater ranges. I think with that, the DAS Light would be superflous since all of us bring hardy shells for conditions anyways. The micro is almost perfect.
It is light weight, close fitting, warm and a little water repellent. I wear it under a heavy shell on very cold days when working as a ski patroller. When in the back country it is my go to puffy at the top of long climbs. Finally I grab it on all but the coldest days when heading out to work or dinner.
Lightweight but still warm. The most versatile jacket I have ever owned. Comfortable in the 50s but still toasty when its cold. Still warm when wet as well.
This hooded jacket is extremely warm for its weight and bulk. The hood fits snug around my head, so a helmet would be worn on top of the garment, and I have room for a base layer or light-weight shirt underneath. I was skeptical it would be sufficiently warm because it was so light but I have been more than pleased. I wear it around the house, to work, around town, backpacking, climbing, and ski touring. It's a very light weight piece of gear that even when damp should keep you warm. I ordered a 2nd one in because you never know when they might discontinue them.
This is a great lightweight warm layer. In fact, I can't believe how warm it is considering it uses a synthetic fill. Perfect for the damp, rainy UK weather.
