Very retro fleece look
This looks like a 1990s fleece. Great if thats what youre aiming for. The only problem with that is many newer fleece products have a finer texture to them that makes them look less frumpy than this rendition. But, if you want that 90s classic fleece look, this will work for you. I returned this because I thought it looked cheap and because the fit... Read More was not flattering on me. In order to cover my shoulders I had to buy an XL but in Patagonias sizing that meant there was too much loose material. I have broad shoulders and a small waist. But Patagonia designs their clothes for people with small shoulders and big waists. Backwards design logic.
Great layer, but not as warm as youd think by itself
I was looking to replace a fleece jacket I wear as an outer layer during the fall. The knit on this is too loose to stop the wind effectively, so a couple times i tried this as my outermost layer and the wind really chilled me. Throw a wind breaking layer on top and youre in good shape though! Love the zippered pockets.
Size Large runs a little short if you are 6'3. I originally exchanged it for an XL but that was too big, so I ended up going back to the Large. It's a very nice quality sweater for casual wear. PS. Shout out to Patagonia customer service for helping get a replacement in a timely manner. Best customer service I have seen in over 10 year... Read Mores.
The material sheds everywhere. Additionally, it collects lent so I have to lent roll it prior to every wear. I would not recommend.
Hi Casey, we're sorry to hear about the shedding problem with the Classic Synchilla® Fleece Jacket. This could possibly be a quality control issue, so please feel free to begin a return or exchange here: https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html.
Cozy and functional!
Perfect, just what I wanted. Water repellent for Seattle fall and winter evenings; full zip in front and just the right weight for keeping me cozy without roasting cuz I naturally run a bit warm; and three pockets for phone, keys, and dog bags + glasses case on days when sunglasses may be needed!
Glad I bought it
Primary reason, winter is coming. I bought this jacket because it looked comfy, it is. Size M fits me perfect. Im 178cm tall, 82kg, basic posture. Its not only handy for camping activities, in casual wear to work is suitable to. Its warm, and because of the zipper, its easy to set the temp. I recommend.
Warm and comfy
I bought this because I didnt have a sweater that was light weight and comfy. Most of what I have are goretex for my work. This fit me perfectly, very light and snuggly comfortable. Only wish now that I didnt get a black but something with more color. Overall though I would buy it again and suggest others buy it as well.
This is the best warm
This is the best warm fleece. Super warm, light, comfortable and flexible. The regular cut is fantastic, loose enough to wear over regular clothes, even a long sleeve shirt, but still fits great over a technical baselayer. Reverse seams on the sleeves make it great to wear over a short sleeve shirt too. Thanks Patagonia!
I was looking for a Jacket to wear similar in weight to the pullover Patagonia Marsupial i wear almost daily. I like a relaxed fit, and the Marsupial, like the heavier Snap-T, provides that. Unfortunately, while the weight and warmth of the Simple Synchilla jacket is similar to the Marsupial (they DO use the same wt. synchilla...), the fit is a bit... Read More restrictive. For me. I wish Patagonia made more casual jackets and such in the Relaxed fit. It just seems to make sense to me to not have to feel constrained in movement. But maybe that is just me! Anyway, all in all, the Simple Synchilla jacket is really nice: super well made, great features (Pockets! Something i think Patagonia should feature on more of its Pullover styles: don't know why the Snap T and similar items don't have 'em! The Marsupial, for instance, is no longer made and the substitute- lightweight Snap-T- doesn't have the kangaroo style pocket, a great thing!). If not for the fit i would have kept it. And gotta add my usual plea here: PLEASE, PLEASE, Patagonia: make a Snap-T JACKET! With same look and Relaxed fit of the pullover, and, of course: Pockets! 8^)
Warm, dries quickly, super comfortable.
Recently, I revisited an old friend - the synchilla jacket. Years ago, I had worn one on a winter climb of Mt. Rainier. That, along with a hooded shell and a 'puffie' turned out to be an ideal combination. The synchilla jacket was my go to next to the skin base layer. Somehow we parted company, I guess it must have been on a change of add... Read Moreress. Reviewing its current iteration, I couldn't believe my 'tried and true' was still available. Immediately, I ordered one, and was not disappointed. Currently, it and a hooded shell have Seattle's liquid winters well covered. Thank you, friend. Welcome back!
Great for layering
This is my second synchilla jacket (I also have a vest). My first has lasted at least a dozen years of harsh use back packing, camping, fishing, cutting firewood, then washing it and wearing it to town. Until it acquired so many holes that it became even too rough for Vermonts low style standards. Those holes? Just owner error, from cozying too clo... Read Morese to campfires over the years. Love the jacket.
I had to buy a new black synchilla after I accidentally snagged and ripped the zipper out of the pocket of my original 15 year old fleece that I always wear. Any piece of clothing that lasts 15 years and still looks great is a winner. Oh and I had the zipper replaced so now I have 2 and am shooting for 30 years
Immediately started shedding
I got this for my boyfriend and couldn't be more disappointed. As soon as I got the jacket out of the package, it started shedding grey fibers. I had the jacket on my lap for 2 seconds to unwrap and my leggings are now literally covered in fiber. Also, the fabric felt very cheap, papery, and weird... for $100! Will be returning. Don't was... Hello J, we appreciate you taking the time to write us and are very sorry to learn about your experience with the shedding fibers. Patagonia's products are covered by the Ironclad Guarantee so you are always welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html) the jacket.
Long time favorite
My first synchilla jacket, bought maybe 15 years ago, was also the first fleece item I owned, and it changed my mind about wearing pretty much only natural fiber clothes. I still wear that first synchilla, though it is covered with small burn holes from backing up too close to many camp fires. I love the roomy fit, especially in the sleeves, becaus... Read Moree I often wear my jacket over a couple of light layers, including a light weight insulated jacket. I wear the jacket hard, in tough conditions, and it has been one hardy, trusty garnet.
Material sheds an incredible amount, I love Patagonia products but this seems unacceptable. You can literally put your hand through the fabric and pull away a ton of "fuzz". Wore on a business trip and had an embarrassing amount of shedding on my dress shirt. Received as a gift for Christmas, put through the wash/dryer a couple of times h... Nice quality but image was different online
The quality of this jacket is nice but the color of the gray looks very different online than in person. I wouldn’t have ordered it if I knew.
Hi Alyssa, thanks for taking the time to write us a review! We're sorry to hear about the disappointment with the jacket. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed so you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return).
Warm, Comfortable Outer Layer
The Ms Classic Synchilla Jacket is my new favorite outer layer (yes, I wear this almost like a winter coat)!!! It goes right over a t-shirt or long sleeve without issue and even has room for a little more WHILE being slim, fashionable and not uber wide like some other pieces I have had. The Ms Classic Synchilla Jacket is warm and provides what I n... Read Moreeed while out on a stroll or at the dog park on a Sunday morning a few hours after the sun rises. Sleeves a little long.
Per the usual It seems like. Every M I’ve ordered has longer than usual sleeves. Fit on the body and through the shoulders is great.
Hi Ricardo! Thank you for your feedback on this item! We're sorry to hear the sleeves are a bit long for you. If you'd like to initiate a return or exchange, you are welcome to do so [here](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return).
I like it
I like it (Fall 2018) very much. Plush, feels great and looks good, too. At 5'11", 182#, and somewhat lean, I find a Large to be boxy, but not to a deal-breaking extent. Hence, 4 instead of 5 stars. The sizing for me means it works better as an outer jacket and not for close to the body. I am glad I got it and look forward to cooler weath... Read Moreer. *Had it been a little less boxy I would readily have given it 5 stars.
Patagonia... just a name!
When North Face came out, years ago, I initially thought it was just a name until I tried it. Then I realized it was more expensive than Columbia, but was of better, long-lasting quality. So, when I first heard about Patagonia I dismissed it as another name, but then decided to give it a shot. I was expecting a much higher quality than the Columbia... Read More fleece I now own. However, upon receiving this fleece in the mail I knew I had made a mistake. The quality is less than that of a $35 Columbia fleece at almost triple the price. On top of that the pockets are netted, so I wouldn't expect them to keep my hands warm if needed. Overall it's an overrated and overpriced product with less quality than that of its competitors. Patagonia may have products that are of good quality, but honestly I don't think I'll ever take the chance again.
Patagonia quality is great
I've owned numerous Patagonia fleece tops over many years. None have ever failed. Zippers, snaps, material will be going strong it seems like forever. I treat them with care, and they have held up over 20 years in some cases. I seldom need to buy anything made by any other company. Great job and many thanks to Patagonia for superior products.
Not bad but NOT wind resistant!
Had a synchilla jacket for many years and it's best for cool temperatures to 50s. It fits true to size and can be worn either as an outer layer jacket in warmer/cool temps or as a midlayer in colder temperatures. You will need a jacket or shell over it to keep warm in wintry temps. The wind WILL CUT THROUGH the jacket which I didn't like ... Read Moreso could never use it even in the winter time as it was 200 midweight fleece which it NOT meant for Cold wintry temperatures. The jacket needs to be longer in length esp. the tail and the fleece will eventually turn somewhat harder over time. It's pricey for what it is even though competitors make similar jackets at better (more affordable!) prices. The jacket needs a waist drawstring!
