Protect the ocean so it can protect us

Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Introducing Freedom to Roam

 /  January 3, 2008 1 Min Read  /  Activism

Freedom_to_roam_teeHappy New Year everybody … it’s good to be back. Our Tuesday hangovers are a distant memory and the first weekend of 2008 is shaping up nicely with a significant snow forecast in the Sierra.

On the Patagonia front, we’re excited to announce our new environmental initiative, Freedom to Roam. The goal of Freedom to Roam is to create migration corridors between protected areas so that wildlife can survive on an increasingly crowded and warming planet. Details on the initiative are now live on Patagonia.com, including an introduction by Rick Ridgeway, a Web-exclusive essay by Doug and Andrea Peacock, an FAQ page, wildlife crossing videos, our first of many maps, and recommended books and sites. This is just the beginning so stay tuned. We look forward to working with each one of you as the campaign unfolds.
