Protect the ocean so it can protect us
Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

I was looking for a fleece layer that was warmer than mid weight, was light and warm with no zipper or collar. Warmth to weight is great, hence the name Air. I deliberately got the new Salt color one size larger than usual for 3 reasons: First, it's a trim fit, but I wanted it a little floppy for just slubbing around. Wish it came in a tall option and the length and sleeves were a little longer
My boyfriend wanted this for his birthday so I bought him the black one. He's a thin 6 foot one inches and the medium fit him best. The issue I have with this product is it does not stretch much at all. Since I am between sizes I had to get a large to fit over my belly and because the material doesn't stretch. The R1 Air is super comfortable and wears like a sweater. For this I like it. The material is warm and breathable and also fashionable. With a pair of jeans it hits smart casual perfectly.
Product request: Patagonia, if you're reading this, make an R1 Air tech full zip jacket without a hood, but use stretch panels on the flanks. You guys used to make a shaggy R1 like this. The stretch panels would allow for a more trim fit and unrestricted movement. It would breath really well and make a great mid layer. Don't put any pockets on it at all, so it can breath as well as possible. We need more super breathable and warm mid layers. I love Polartec Alpha, but it is not very durable. We need more options like this. and we don't pockets on top of pockets. Sometimes I end up with around 20 pockets when I am all layered up. If you end up making it you should send me one for free and if you're listening I have several product ideas. I used to work for Bomber Gear and I love design.
A great piece of kit equally as a casual garment or for hitting the road or trail . Very warm in colder temperatures so a must have during the winter months .
The crew cut is great, it doesn't get in the way and the material hugs the torso and keeps it warm. Usually I wear it over merino shirt and under Houdini and it covers majority of cold weather runs.
Beautiful product, looks really great, needs cold weather, so perhaps not as versatile as other Gonia running tops. Hopefully this will become a staple of my winter running wardrobe.
This crew fleece is great! I find it very comfortable and breathable. I really enjoy it. My only complaint is that I ordered two in large (green and oar tan), but, the one in oar tan is clearly not the same size as the green one. Best sweater ever
Warm yet still breathable and smart enough for the pub with a fit suitable for climbing
I had originally thought that a medium would work for me (My torrentshell jacket is a medium) but found that it was far too small for me. This fit is much slimmer than the regular fitting pieces.
Super comfortable and durable. Also looks nice.
Used this past weekend on a backcountry fishing mission in the Greater Yellowstone area. Incredible mid/baselayer that breathed very well while trekking, and kept me warm while layering for fishing.
The best thermal top I've had so far. Made for cooler to very cold temps and vents very well to reduce sweating. I'm a avid hunter and it's a excellent addition to my gear!
I bought this a size up so that it fits slightly loose, more like a casual mid layer/sweater than a base layer. I’d say it’s slightly thinner than most fleeces, but probably four times more efficient.
Love the fit and feel, hugs your body but not too tight. Allows motion and vents extra heat during active periods. Overall I love the product and would recommend it.
The R1 material is the best in comfort, fit, warmth, breathability, and application that Patagonia offers. Worn by itself, or in layer, the R1 is hands down best baselayer I've tried, anywhere. I have in mulch brown, palo green, and black. You must try it out, you'll be very impressed.
This top is extremely soft and warm. It doesnt work well for me as an outer layer because almost every piece of debris sticks to it. However, as an inner or base layer its very warm, flexible and breathable.
At first I wasn't sure if it was the right choice, but as soon as I tried it on I fell in love with it!
I wear it at parties, at work and of coure for climbing. It fits perfectly as I'm quite slim;
It's warm, but not to warm, it's light, it's comfortable and looks good!
Bought this for my daughter during the sale, she has been teaching skiing all winter and needed another base layer, the women's were all sold out so we got a Mens Medium. It fits well, a little looser in mid section than a woman's would be but works with another layer under, or alone as well. Love the front pocket, and it is oh so soft!

Very warm, comfortable, and love that this is slim fit. Patagonia doesn't offer a lot of slim fit clothes but when they do, the item is excellent. Fleece is great material. Just got the sweater so let's hope it lasts (I used to own a Better Sweater and the fleece on that is awful).

Last mid-layer Ill ever need!
I love my R1 Air! I wear it over a merino base layer and under my shell and Im warm all day skiing. It breathes and even feels soft next to the skin.
Fleece sweaters are ideal for cold weather
Air, interlayer provides warmth and air permeability, in addition to wear resistance
And weather resistance, can be extended in changing mountain conditions multi - work
Flexible, double woven fabric clinging to skin, soft and warm!
I run very hot while touring and this layer is what I have been dreaming of. I could *see* how breathable this was at pulling moisture off of my skin while I stayed just the right temperature on the inside.
We appreciate your feedback, Nicholas! If the "slim" fit design of the R1 is constricting at all, we recommend checking out our slightly more roomy ["regular" fit fleece tops](https://www.patagonia.com/shop/mens-fleece?prefn1=fit&prefv1=regular). We'll be happy to exchange that for you!

Go to layer
I have worked outside in the ski industry for nearly 40 years and layering is important each and every day. The crew neck design is important for me too. After all, how many layers of collars can be worn? This shirt is light, warm and quick to dry. It just may be my new favorite.
The Patagonia Men's R1 Air Fleece Crew is just the right amount of breathability and warmth for light hiking and also works well for layering during very cold weather. Im 198 and 62 and the large fit perfect.
I have many R-1 but this is my first crew, this is a great choice when I am going to have multiple layers with zip up neck. This workhorse is a great layering piece that keeps warm when idle and dry during aerobic efforts by wicking away moisture. Love that it is recycled!
I was a little skeptical about this pullover but turns out I love it. The pocket fabric is really nice and light weight (which was a concern having not seen one in real life) and the fabric is soft enough to be a base layer but the piece can also be used as ones on again off again layer. Its lightweight and breathable so is perfect for lots of different activities, but is still good as a warm layer for colder Cornish weather. Nice casual style too, so will be perfect for the pub after.
I have both the R1 pullover and R1 jacket and love them. Ive now had the R1 air crew for two days and love it even more.

I am a huge fan--this is my new favorite Patagonia item!
