This is a great jacket. There are many things to like about it. It is warm of course. The front pockets are large and will accommodate your hands with gloves or mittens on them. The sleeves don't have knit cuffs, which is something that I like, but they do have elastic in them to keep the wind out. Yes! The zipper is a two way zipper, which is another excellent feature. The waist does not have elastic, which I like, but it does have an inside drawstring to make up for that. Yes! The zipper goes all the way down to the bottom of the jacket, which is oh so wonderful. I have some jackets where the coat or jacket extends a few inches below the end of the zipper. This can really make it hard to start the zipper because those pieces of fabric get in the way. I really bought this jacket because of the collar. There is nothing worse than a jacket where cold wind can blow down the "throat" of the jacket. The zipper and storm flaps go up your neck right to the bottom of your chin. That feature is excellent and is what I look for. The storm flaps keep the zipper from digging into the skin. Carhartt jackets never have this feature and their metal zipper and no storm flaps just let the cold wind down the front of their jackets. The only item that might need improvement in this Patagonia jacket is the size of the collar. It could be larger. It needs to be able to accommodate a turtle neck or a shirt with a collar, like a denim work shirt that I often wear. I don't think that a lot of people will be wearing this jacket over just a collarless t-shirt. When I buy a dress shirt, that collar sits right against my neck. That is not true of how I will use this jacket. I will be having a shirt with a collar under the collar of this jacket. This a fabulous jacket from a guy who really knows jackets. Did I ramble on?
I love the fit, look and feel or this jacket. I am taller with longer arms and the arms are about 1 1/5 to short. Would have definitely gotten a tall option if available.

I wear the coat to commute/walk to work. Very warm and water repellent enough. Have walked a little of a mile in medium rain and jacket did not leak. Easy to get on/off at train station. Double pockets take some getting used to but are very functional.
Nice and warm, but needs a repair after less than a week
The jacket looks awesome and its super warm, but after less than a week of owning it one of the adjustable cords for the waist broke.
So Im thinking Ill send it back for a repair, which apparently takes upwards of 12 weeks to get the jacket back to me, which is a major inconvenience and shouldnt be needed after less than a week of owning the thin... Read Moreg.

Ordered this in Gold, and the color is gorgeous. Fits great and is quite warm as well.
Reason why I returned it: when zipped all the way up, it sits uncomfortably tight around the neck. I wear an S, and my collared shirts are 14.5.
I recognize it is to keep the neck warm, but this jacket would have been perfect if it were adjustable instead.

Missing insulation in half of the Jacket
Love Patagonia, and have been using their products for years. However, I purchased their Down Drift jacket for the winter and was not pleased with the insulation. The entire right side of the jacket was missing the down material.

If you washed the jacket and the down did not redistribute evenly, it's usually a pretty easy fix. You'll want to close all zippers, snaps and velcro. Machine wash it in cool water with a mild detergent (no bleach, no fabric softener, preferably powder) and then tumble dry on low heat (no fabric softener) with a couple of clean tennis balls or dryer balls. This will fluff and redistribute the down, and help to refresh and tighten up the fabric around the down. Comfortable and warm
I like how it feels. It fits perfectly for me. It is warm and soft. I like the feature of unzipping the hood, because on most days I don't need the hood. At first I wasn't sure about the pocket that is somewhat hidden, however I really like it now. It is a great place to put stuff I don't want to lose.
This is possibly one of the best jackets I've owned. It's windproof, slightly water-resistant (for a light drizzle), and very warm in cold weather. Awesome. However, the one drawback is that the cuffs are not adjustable, so if you plan on not using gloves with this jacket, the open-ish cuffs can let in some cold air. This leaves your arms... Big & Useful
This jacket when on sale is a must get. The double pockets are a wonderful feature and the jacket keeps you nice and warm. The jacket is a bit oversized so it would be nice if there were drawstrings on the bottom both to reduce the size and keep the person warmer.
Great hood, but difficult to snap buttons for either neck/mouth protection or when hood is not needed, to get secured without removing hood. Really good, big, warm hood.
Outside pockets without zippers take some getting used to. Could use an outside zipper pocket for phone over heart. The inside one there is difficult to access in cold when jacket ... Read Moreis zipped and buttoned up.

Could be great with a few small improvements
I really wanted to like this jacket but there were a few things that made me return it.
First, the partial elastic cuff edges were sharp and cut into my wrists. A soft inner cuff would have been a better option and would keep the cold out.

Good quality
This jacket is very warm. I wear it to a trip in London winter. No problem in handling that coldness. Like it.
This coat is by far the most comfortable coat I have ever worn. Not only is it comfortable though, it has kept me warm during even the coldest of weather.
I always purchase size M from Patty for 20 plus years, no problems with size, even with sweaters, shirts.... Now I replaced my old jackets with new, I find the the arms are an inch too short, the shoulders are tight. I tried a L size and was just too big for a <6ft, <180lb guy?

Great jacket in all respects with one exception. Every other cold weather jacket I have had has velcro adjustable wrist openings so you can deal out cold air. This one does not and it's almost a deal breaker.
Unfortunately this down jacket has not been at all as I hoped it would look and work like.
The jacket ( I usually wear size S) is wide and short and stuff sticks to it. The hood/ collar is also not comfortable and doesn't look nice in my opinion. For this much money I would have expected a way better design.

Awsome jacket
Love this jacket, wraps around my body comfortably and warm, not heavy and hard, but soft and comfy. No matter the cold outside it works.
Ive been using this jacket for about a month now in the Eastern Idaho Tetons cold and it has been fantastic. Love this jacket, it ticks all the boxes I need in a winter jacket. Pockets are great material feels much more durable then the hyper puffs. Can fit a fleece underneath but not anything super thick.

He is an outdoorsman and an artist and a friendly acquaintance of the founder. He briefly told me the Patagonia story and I decided to get one. I asked an employee to get the key and he disappeared for 15 minutes. I left pissed off. I came home and ordered it online thru Patagonia and it was $100 cheaper than Dicks. Patagonia uses a shipping company or forwarder called Lasership or something like that. They never delivered my coat but said that it was delivered. After an "investigation" they claimed it was delivered. I asked for proof of delivery but they couldn't come up with it. I have cameras all over. There was no delivery. So I called Patagonia and spoke with an intelligent, competent individual who understood my dilemma and promptly sent me a replacement. I wish I could remember her name. The coat came a few days later and it was exactly what I wanted. You can see that this product is a well made one. The zippers are strong and smooth, and all of the seams line up perfectly. And to top it off, this jacket is made from recycled fishing nets and responsibly farmed down. When you compare it to the crap on the mainstream market it is so obviously superior and in many cases costs less! Right on Patagonia, keep it up!
I've bought many winter coats in my life. Never felt warm during the Chicago winters. After quite a bit of research of different brands and finding local stores to actually try them on, I found THE coat. I just went through a few days of frigid weather and I never felt it. It's so cozy and warm. A definite investment I do not regret!

Very happy with this jacket. Well-constructed and good fit (Medium - I am 6’2” and 73kg). Decent amount of down, have worn it when temp around zero and still comfortable; nice hood design/flaps. Suits wandering around a farm (where I currently live) and also in the city. I would recommend.

The material is not too stiff like my old Carhartt is and it's a lot more durable than my Columbia puffer. I was worried about the position of the pockets but I'm finding them very comfortable. I'm 5'10 and weigh 190, the large fits perfectly.
So far I don't have any complaints.
Best down coat I've ever purchased. Love the way it feels true to size. Very warm and cuts the wind. Creative pockets can warm your hands and a smaller pocket for your gloves.

Just right
So far I love the jacket. My new fave for when the temps drop. Super warm . Double hand warmer pockets. Removable hood. Plush and roomy cozy feel. The orange color is very cool too.
Although it runs a little small (not much) like previous reviews have pointed out, it feels like the jacket is hugging you. I'm 6'1 and thin. My weight fluctuates between 138 and 154. I'm really pretty thin all over with an awkward noteable belly haha. Some larges I SWIM in and some fit well. It's been a struggle. Definitely quite warm though!

This is a beautiful, high quality jacket that is incredibly warm. Almost an excess of down it feels like a big hug every time you put it on. There is nothing like this for every day wear for when it is frigid. Have not tried it for skiing, but I suspect it is too warm except for the days when it is so cold you probably should not be out there.
I really appreciate a down filled jacket that is not made with easily but or punctured ripstop nylon. This jacket has a smooth comfortable feel. I normally take an XL and this jacket in XL is a perfect fit. Good and warm.
The jacket has been comfortable in temps from 25-55f (rated to 18f). The fit is true to sizing and the down is somewhat padded, so it's a bit like a comfortable hug while being worn. I like the pocket configuration with 4 pockets on the front and a zippered pocket inside to fit my cellphone. I'd buy it again...

I normally wear a size large but with this jacket I was forced to purchase an XL. The large was too tight in the shoulders and did not provide enough freedom of movement of my arms. Since purchasing this jacket we have not had any cold weather to put it to the test.
This jacket is great. Love the materials. Fits great. I was pleased how well it breaks the wind and it seems to be water resistant. Warm, even with a t-shirt but still fits well with two layers underneath. Not too bulky. Double front pocket is a nice feature. This will be a go-to of mine for many years.

Very warm
Good for cold weathers.
One more inside pocket would be better
This jacket is exactly what I was looking for. The outer is tough and weather protective and the down is puffy and warm. The detachable hood is a big plus for our Montana winters. I use as a casual round town running errands winter coat.
Very nice well made jacket. I like the fact that it's a down filled jacket without being a puffer jacket. Seems warm enough down into the 20's. I also like the insulated removable hood. The quality of the jacket is great. It's warm and i like the outer pockets.
My only complaint is it doesn't look as good as i would have hoped. I was looking for a cool retro jacket rather than just a typical winter jacket. But unfortunately it's a bit frumpy and wide around the waist to look great

Very warm
I am 179cm, 60kg, and the S size fits me perfectly. There is room for a thick sweatshirt under the jacket. It does keep me very warm. The quality is amazing.
The downsides would be its a bit bulky, and it could have been a bit longer (but maybe I am just used to my old longer jacket).
Ive been wearing the same military surplus parka for the last decade and wanted something lighter for winter hiking. I dont really trust ultralight puffer jackets not to get shredded into confetti while walking through the woods so I picked this guy up. Great design and look!
I wanted something a bit more durable and warm than a puffer jacket which had some versatility for casual, work or outdoors, like a city parka. This has to be the best designed winter coat I have used. It has features in all the right places. Im 5 foot 8 and it fits roomy with some space in the sleeves and shoulders for layering which is how I like... Read More my winter coats. Love the double pockets in the front and interior. Cinch strap works great to keep the waist sealed and the double zipper is very useful. The coat is very warm; too warm to wear inside much but will definitely keep me warm outside in 0-30 F weather which is exactly what I wanted. The snaps are also a good choice instead of Velcro because theyre quieter and wont wear out. Finally the coat looks really good and can definitely perform casually or dressed up a little, but the material on the outside is durable enough for light work or outdoor activities. Also really like that its made out of recycled materials; but there is no compromise in quality here. Waste not want not or how the saying goes. All in all, fantastic coat. It's definitely a great, warm, heavy jacket for particularly cold winter days. The only downside is it's heavy and bulky so I don't think it can be used for anything other than walking, hiking, and an occasional short bike ride. I splurged on this jacket and am very satisfied - worth every penny. I wanted a shell fabric more durable than puffer style jackets and got it. Very warm and windproof, this jacket allows me to commute further than I normally would in an electric car because I keep the heat off and the coat does the rest. Thanks for a great design.

I bought this XL size and it fits perfects my body height (1.89cm). I can even wear three layers of clothing beneath it. I do not know if it is suitable for very wet rainy days. I don’t assume this but for dry cold and windy winters it’s perfectly warm.

It fits slightly oversized without being too big, and the toggle waist adjustments help adjust the sizing quickly. My only nitpick is that there is no wrist adjustment. It really wouldve been no trouble at all to add it, and it sucks that I cant seal the fit around my gloves. For me it was definitely worth the purchase. Looks good and is very warm. The material seems very durable and repels water very well. The extra hand-warmer pockets are awesome!
I would recommend it for casual outdoor activities like walking or light hiking. Nothing with a lot of upper body movement/stretching (e.g. climbing) as the jacket doesn't reach far below the butt and would expose your lower back.
The jacket is good for everything from +5°C and lower. I haven't tested it but I would say at least -5°C.

I don't think I can wear a sweater under it- a long sleeve shirt is about it without feeling crammed.
