I purchased the R2 Yulex gloves after comparing them with 1.5mm golves from a reputable competitor. I don't like wearing gloves while surfing, and the lighter gloves initially seemed interesting. I tried both gloves in the shop and went for the Yulex after the following:
1. Comfort, fit and form. Initially the lighter gloves felt more supple, ... Read Morehowerver the Yulex gloves were already formed into a slight curl which evened things up between the two options.
2. Grip. The shop owner let me grip the rails of a board he had for sale in the shop (whilst I was wearing one of each type of glove). It was evident that the Yulex glove had better grip, at least in dry conditions.
I bought the Yulex.....
First surf using the Yulex gloves: Very happy. The size dry was still appropriate wet. Plenty of grip and feedback for making the pop-up.
The Yulex also come with a handy net bag that should help me not to lose one....could definitely use the bag to carry wet/damp gloves although I'll be airing mine properly at the first opportunity.
I normally use size L gloves for other pursuits (construction, snowsports, motorcycles). I was XL in Patagonia gloves (also the other brand). So I would say that the sizing runs a little samll - something to consider if buying online.
I have a allergy to some component of neoprene so I tried this hood and didn't have any skin issues after 6 open water dives. "YEAH" The hood worked great and was the little bit extra I needed to stay comfortable. Just ordered an R2 suit.
