The very first time I traveled with the bag, American Air bent one of my wheels so badly the bag no longer would roll. I think the bag could use a stronger wheel axle design. Thankfully, Patagonia customer service promptly shipped me a new wheel and axle at no charge. I was able to fix it like new in about 20-minutes.
Would I buy this bag again? Yes, because of the great Patagonia customer service.
Great bag but needs to work out some issues with balance
I only use Patagonia luggage. I got this bag to replace a similar older bag which I loved but the handle no longer worked.

I cannot recommend the bag as it was truly unwieldy for me to travel alone with and I have never had that experience before. I also have multiple smaller versions of this bag which do not have this problem.

100L smaller than I thought
String Rollie but too small. Thought I could eliminate second bag when I have boots, poles, heavy jacket, etc
This bag is incredible. It's durable, very large and perfect for carrying both ski and scuba gear (what I've used it for). I have several different size Black Hole bags and I recommend them to everyone!

Outstanding for backpacking trip recently. I could put 65L backpack inside fully loaded or with items packed around. Solved a major travel dilemma and was great to wheel around. First trip the wheel bent, leaving me to carry this giant bag through the airport. The bag was not overloaded and only half full. Also the bag does not stand up and constantly falls over when left upright.

100 liter roller bag is the perfect travel bag. I have used this bag for a 2 week Tampa trip for the 1st time.. It fit 2 weeks of clothes and gear. . Going to Europe for a month over the summer. Cant wait to put this bag up against the challenge this summer.
Some airline baggage handler bent one of the axles on my black hole duffel making it pretty much impossible to roll through an airport.
Although the website said this product was not covered by Patagonia's repair or replace policy they sent me 2 new wheels and axles so I could fix it myself. Easy to do.

Regardless of size, these wheeled duffles are great for travel- weekend, a week or longer. We have the same design for a few years and the duffles are holding up well to travel and airline abuse. Pick a size that works for your trip and you're ready to go.

I actually have the older 120L roller BH. It's held up super well over 7 years, and can hold a lot. As a new parent, the 120 can fit a pack-n-play crib folded up (doubt the 100 would though). Another reviewer noted that the 100 packed full usually stays under 50 lbs, the 120, well, I now carry a small luggage scale because it can be quite easy... My only design request at this point would be to change the straps a little. The smaller BH duffles I have can be made into backpacks, the roller cannot. There are times when rolling is not a good option due to terrain or stairs. Maybe if the current handle straps had a shoulder protection sleeve I could attach over the webbing, or just a little padding, that would make the difference. I have worn it as a backpack, but the webbing just digs in. Thanks for considering.
I bought this 100L duffel to replace an old Patagonia one from 2007. A few improvements including zipper/flap orientation and new side pocket. Zippers appear smaller and less durable than old version. Best wheeled luggage anywhere
I own several black hole bags, and love them all. I travel extensively and always with lots of gear, from airlines to floatplanes, trucks, boats, and airports everywhere the black hole bags are the best. This bag can pack it all. I use it for trips with bulky wetsuits, fins, and other gear I don't want to weigh down a surfboard bag. I recently went to Europe, and put all of my surf gear in it, and still had ample space for clothes. The only other bag I packed was a small back pack.
Everything about the bag is great. Style, size, functional. I was really disappointed when retrieving my bag from the baggage carousel after one flight to find the lettering had rubbed of in many places. This didnt happen on my older version of the same bag.

Hauling Clothes and Gear
This bag makes travel a snap - no longer do I need to work at jamming the last bit of gear and clothing in. I have space and I have mobility. What more could I ask for?

Space for days
I love the amount of space! It's literally like a black hole and the wheels are just the cherry on top!
I have waited a while to purchase this duffel with wheels. I t did not disappoint when I opened my package. Well built, sturdy, sleek, elegant, modern look. It really complete the look when traveling in style. I love my new travel piece, I will be getting all sizes on this one.

I haven't traveled with this yet but it looks great and is huge. We plan to use it for ski trips or other long adventures.

Great duffel for sleepaway camp but need more colors!
This bag is fantastic and so well-made. We bought it for sleepaway camp for our son. It fit everything on his packing list for 3.5 weeks away. The wheeling element is critical! Now, if only Patagonia would add some other color combos/options besides the three very dark/drab ones offered here, we will surely buy another for our daughter!

I took this suitcase to the Philippines on multiple flights and it has held up quite well. The material seems very durable and can take a beating. Travel for work very frequently, touching spots around the world.. and technical gear and bags are consider essential pieces of equipment and something I am extremely particular about and well versed in. Bought this to replace my previous Patagonia luggage from circa 2009 that was starting to show its age and fall finally apart (including the inter... This era is unfortunately not as bulletproof. The lack of a separate storage compartment for shoes/kit/dirty gear on this iteration was a huge miss but I took the chance anyhow. And while its overall lighter, the material is already suspect. First trip through outbound baggage internationally, and theres a significant rub on the fabric that may eventually burn through, one of the wheel axles was bent (to the point where I had to bend it back to roll it properly), and by the return leg the other axle was off kilter. And no.. it was not an overly heavy bag nor packed to the gills.
Ultimately, Im stuck with it at this point, but did not live up to the previous version on the first trip out the door and I have concerns about the longevity knowing how tough baggage can be in general. And this hasn't even seen an expedition or a proper remote shoot yet.. Recommend they either redesign completely, or move away from the Black Hole duffle as the platform for a piece of roller luggage.. or both (and I have a BH duffle, and its fantastic)

The ultimate big bag
The 100L black hole bag is the perfect do it all travel bag. Quite simply it can handle any gear, for any activity, for any trip and make it easy. The sturdy wheels make moving large loads a cinch. Maybe consider two though so you don't have to worry about your spouse/partner/friends borrowing yours.
I wanted a big bag for extended trips so I knew I needed one with wheels. This bag is great. It's perfect when my 55L blackhole is too small for the trip. I wish it was a bit lighter when empty but not really a big deal.

This is an abnormally bad experience in durability. Bag popped a structural seam where a handle is sewn into the body after about a week of light use. Hadnt even been to the airport with it yet. Probably 25lbs of gear and clothes in it at maximum, no awkward angles or sharp edges. Im kinda at a loss, this bag is not inexpensive and it broke quickly... Read More and easily. Wouldnt begin to think about giving it to a baggage handler. This is going back ASAP.
Used this for trip to Yosemite and Sequoia. Between this and our carryon bags the four of us had all the room we needed for our gear for ten days. Really like the big wheels for pulling the bag on paths to our campsite.
A great piece. It goes through airport rigors well. It will keep gear dry and protected in a huge hail storm pouring rain when exposed to the elements in the open bed of a pickup. This was unintended but happened. Just smaller than golf sized hail and dense rain. Very easy to roll around and very easy to attach two with a strap. A worthy piece.
Ive had a 40l black hole wheeled duffle for 10 years and it has performed flawlessly for thousands of miles. I needed a large bag so the 100l was the obvious choice, I look forward to taking it on the next adventure!
Bought two 100l bags. They lasted one overseas trip. Wheels are bent on both. One cant even be rolled any longer. And they fall over constantly and they dont fold flat for storage so even if they were well made, figuring out how to store them is a pain. I want the old design back so badly.

There is room for easy improvements by including webbing or adjustable compartments inside the bag. Can’t really fault it. Only thing to flag is the size - it hardly feels big. I was deciding between this one and the smaller option and I’m very glad I went for this one. One other minor point is that this doesn’t pack flat when empty (i.e you can’t store it under a bed). The base of the bag is firm.

This duffle is the GOAT. I've had the 70L regular duffle for years and just recently got the 100L rolled duffle for longer trips. I cannot recommend this bag enough. Super durable, protective, light, and can be used as a duffle or worn as a backpack.
This bag is amazing!!! The size is huge and the durability is like no other! There are plenty of pockets to store items in and wheels are super tough. I have taken this bag on so many scuba trips. It is the only bag that will fit my tank in. My only gripe is that the zippers are made of nickel and corrode from the salt water. I lubricate the zipper... Great duffle.
Great looking, roomy and durable duffle bag. The handles are beefy, the material is very tough and the pockets, zippers and clips work well.
I wish that you had kept the old design for your luggage - large rolling duffle in which the back folded for storage yet unfolded and stayed rigid when using.
My ten year-old equivalent got "borrowed" by my daughter so I immediately replaced it. It's especially great for ski trips when you can't avoid having high volume gear.
I love my Black Hole duffles. I travel a lot of work and always fill my 100L with 50 lbs of gear and my first bag is still in really good shape. The water resistance has been helpful for a few occasions and I've bought more Black Hole duffles as my gear needs have grown.
Used it for a week long trip that required lots of gear.Handled everything with room to spare. Easy to pack and move. The rolling wheels and handle are great.
This bag is beautiful. So nicely constructed and designed. Alas, it was bigger than I needed. Its a big bag and comparable to luggage I already have. Had to return it and hope to get a smaller size (whenever they return to stock!).
I can pretty much fit 5 months of guiding and charter boat captain stuff for my two jobs in AK in this bag! Its durable, easy to grab off the conveyor at the airport, and rolls like Jeep. I want all the sizes now!
One wheel was broken easily by baggage handlers in Europe. We did not overload the bag at all, since we were frequently flying between European airports. Still on our trip and bay is difficult to roll. Very disappointed considering the very high price and otherwise high quality materials.
This is my favorite checked luggage bag of all time. It is super durable, rolls easily, and is highly maneuverable. It suits my "throw it all in now and sort it out on arrival" style of packing. Paired with my 55L Black Hole duffel which I use as a carry-on, I can transport all my gear for a two week+ easily with room to spare.

Quality duffle
I am really impressed with the overall quality of my new duffle bag and especially like that it is wheeled. Two small issues. First it is extremely hard to lock the main section of the duffle with a TSA approved lock, holes in zippers aren't big enough. Second there doesn't appear to be any place to put an ID tag.
Best waterproof durable travel bag I've used yet. The wheels make this bag. Just completed 10days of filming in the Amazon. Most time spent on boat and remote communities where no shelter was available for the bag. Lots of rain, mud and sunshine but this bag kept everything secure. Ive loved these bags for the last three years. They are stellar for people who travel with a lot of gear. Im a professional skydiver so I have one bag dedicated to wings and harnesses etc, and the other dedicated for clothes. You can fit SOOO much gear in these but it comes at a price

This has happened to me 4 separate times in very inconvenient places. Patagonia always fixes it but MAN I just wish they would redesign this weak point in the bag. My coworkers who also travel with a lot of gear have moved onto other bags. Im not ready to give up the black hole series yet just hoping that Patagonia will fix this one issue to an otherwise perfect roller bag.

This is my second black hole big bag, after destroying two freight liner max bags over the course of 20+ years of worldwide travel to difficult fishing destinations. These bags are better looking than the freightliners, but dont have the structure on the sidewalls that I prefer - otherwise, theyre great.
My black hole bag bought over 15 years ago has traveled all over the world and taken endless abuse. It is one of my favorite possessions. Even though I have not bought this newer version, IF my old one ever wears out, I will get another right away. One of the best purchases I ever made.

This is the third wheeled duffle we have purchased and plan to buy one more so each family member has one! These are very sturdy. I seriously doubt the airlines could do any serious damage to this bag short of slicing with something sharp like a knife. They are well protected by the frame. The extending handle seems much more solid and sturdy than another well-known expensive name brand suitcase I own. I wouldn't pack breakables in this bag. The airlines cracked a coffee mug I thought I packed well in the center of the bag surrounded by clothing. I would like to see Patgonia design it about 1-2 lbs lighter so it makes it easier to comply with the airlines weight requirements, but they would likely haven't sacrafice toughness which isn't something I would want to compromise.
After 15 years it was time for a new travel bag.
My original bag lasted 15 years and Im sure this one will go the distance also.
Newer water resistant material is definitely a plus.
I haven't had this bag very long, however I'm on my first trip using it. It fits plenty of clothing, gear, etc. I've packed up sleeping bags for my son and myself and my clothing, some ski gear and more. The wheels roll very easily. I'm a fan. It seems very sturdy so far, hopefully it feels this way years from now, too.
I purchased this product and on the first trip the axle for the wheel got bent during travel. It wobbled for a couple more trips and then broke off. It has not been a quick process to get a replacement. I like the actual bag but the roller wheels seem poorly built.

Perfect travel bag
Perfect bag for fly fishing travel. Hold rods, reels and gear safely. Handles well. Barrier than competition which I like. Waterproof is very important too.

My wife wasn't able to wheel hers more than a few blocks at a time before her arms gave out and so we needed to return it. If Patagonia could add two additional wheels so the bag could roll completely vertical, I would happily repurchase.

Read Morempartment and then both wheels. Ive tried to fix both myself but really its just gerry rigged because even the things that should be fixable arent. The wheel assembly is very weak and the bolts that serve as axles get bent very easily. Replacing these with stronger bolts should be easy but the problem is inside the assembly there is nothing to hold on to the bolts.
Again, I have used this bag to travel all over the world, but regardless I would have expected it to last a lot longer.

Great bag
I love my new travel bag, it is very large, I even fit my king size pillow along with all my other travel needs for 10 days of travel to Mexico. The bag is well made and rolled smoothly. Super happy with my purchase and excited to use it on my next trip.
Love this bag for traveling. Would have given a 5 star rating if the retractable handle was longer. I agree with other reviewer that a longer handle allows you to more easily stack a second bag. 100L
We havent deployed since COVID-19; but, now Im better prepared. This bag will allow the carry of some base camp Kit, an emergency field pack and other gear as needed for the situation. The Black Hole wheeled duffel is so good, my first one was stolen! Durable construction with great wheels enable you to get where you are going. Its holds so much stuff that you can easily get over the air carriers weight limit!

One of my favorite parts is the robust (but light) frame and harder shell that makes up the bottom and back roller feature of the bag. Ive used this aspect to pack away delicate souvenirs or bottles of whatever local adult beverage I wanted to bring home to share with friends without any issue or fear of damage.
Its trusty and has the space and protection which has given me confidence in packing for trips from a week to six months away.
Though I probably didnt need to, I bought another one of these bags and its been, and always will be my go-to for travel. Thanks!
Having used many, many, different brands of wheeled duffels, this is the hardest wearing one I've used. With a new trip every 2 weeks, I put my luggage through hell on airlines, in cars, on trains, and carrying around the world. This bag has held up the best with hardly any signs of wear after a ton of trips worth of use.
After 4 trips the wheel axel was bent. As of this morning the bag was rolling fine but after a two hour flight the wheel was gone when I picked it up from baggage claim. Now I'm on a 3-city work trip for 2.5 weeks, dragging around a 100L bag of clothing with one wheel. Not what I paid for or expected. So frustrating considering I already threw... Read Moreprovement needed are handles on all four sides so you can grab from the side and top to quickly lift and store. 2nd improvement needed is a support bar at the bottom front of the bag so when you stand it up the weight doesn't make it topple over. 3rd improvement needed on this bag is to increase the length of the retractable handle. It is nice to be able to throw a smaller bag on top when you are rolling through an airport and need to give your back a rest.

I got this bag right before Christmas for a ski trip and was able to pack all my gear and casual wear in it. I gave this bag to my daughter and her husband for Christmas. They already have one in a different color and needed a new one now that they have two kids. It's unfortunate that a bag as pricey as this one would be so easily damaged and I'm not certain, after looking at how things are assembled, that it can be repaired.
So, I would say that if you are going to be able to ensure that the bag is handled with reasonable care i.e. not entrusted to airline baggage handlers and such it would be a great bag but I can't recommend it for use when it must be entrusted to those who handle luggage sans kid gloves.
I just returned from my first trip with this bag and so far it is wonderful. Plenty big to fit all sorts of gear (no problem putting full size dive fins in). This bag holds everything you need for a week of skiing (or more) and is built like a tank. The scars from the airplane baggage handlers only improve its looks; like honest playing wear on a nice guitar.

My 60L black hole duffle is great, but always stuffed to the brim when I take these jobs/long trips, and it’s hell on my body to schlep it in addition to my pack. But now I’m dealing with the stress of meeting the standard checked bag limit of 50lbs for most flights and train rides. The bag is near 10lbs on it’s own. I barely have it filled now, in-fact I’ve had to give away or toss most of my clothes and gear... and it’s still weighing in at 47lbs. I have my stuff stripped down to the very bare minimum, only practical things one would need for transitioning from warm climates to potentially snowy mountain towns in Japan. That being said, I don’t even have a winter coat or boots in there. I guess most people who buy this bag and claim they can fill it are also the type who don’t have to think twice about paying oversized luggage fees at the airport? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pros:
-VERY sturdy
-pretty weather proof so far
-lots and lots of room
-no longer traveling with neck/back pain that comes with juggling a 40L backpack and 60L duffle
-handles make it easy to lug this beast in and out of taxis or oversize bag bins on trains
-could probably ride down a snowy mountain on it, if the occasion called for it
Cons:
-maybe a little too big for a single traveler who doesn’t fly first or business class
-struggle to pack it for a 3 month travel stint in varying climates and have it be below 50lbs weight limit for checked baggage
-frustratingly empty for how heavy it is.
I really, really, really wanted to fall in love with this bag. Have been wanting to upgrade from my beloved 60L black hole duffel to a roller. But at the end of the day, it’s jus not right for me.
This duffel is bigger than you think. It fits so much stuff, that invariably I have space left over. It is well constructed and durable in all aspects. Easy to haul and roll.
I love this bag. It's durable, plenty of space an extended vacation and the large wheels make it possible to roll across a lot of different terrain. I bought the 70L first but it was just a little small. I really wish Patagonia had a size between 75L & 100L, that would be the perfect for me.
This is the hands down best travel bag.. it seems to store more then my other roller from TNF even though it’s the same volume. I highly recommend this!
Can’t wait to use it on my trip to Florida this winter. Just about fits everything I need to spend a few months in the Keys. Perfect luggage size to check if flying.
Just back from a trip to Chamonix with my new Black Hole duffel. It does exactly what I needed it to do: carried all gear and clothing needed, weathertight, easy to roll over cobbles, through airports, etc, easy to spot on the luggage conveyor, Showed NO marks after 2 weeks in some difficult travel.
International travel to weekend car camping is great, but did not hold up to baggage handlers
I have the older 120L. I took ONLY this bag for a 1 year trip to Korea and then a 1.5 year trip to the Dominican Republic. It has tons of space and looks great. The wheels can be a blessing and a curse. The bag is so big it holds a lot and is suited to be wheeled but the wheels took some damage on my international flights which took it from a bless... The good:
It's huuuuge!
The outside material is very durable
Handle placement is superb
The zippers all work great (I even put a TSA lock on the main compartment, np)
Extended handle is sturdy and well built
Rolls easily*
The bad:
The inside compression straps work ok but because it's so big it needs another one in the middle, it bulges in the middle
The wheels did not hold up to the baggage handlers. First flight I had one of the wheels bent. Maybe the third flight and the other bent. Patagonia is great, even internationally, unless you're in a country that does not supply that type of bag. They tried to repair it while I was in Korea and made it worse. I had it fixed when I got back to the US.
If you are doing a lot of airline travel (my problems could be limited to international), I would be wary of taking this bag. Otherwise, it is amazing!
