Protect the ocean so it can protect us

Our future is tied to the ocean. Its shared seas connect us through food, culture and sport. The home of amazing, abundant life, it’s also a powerful climate solution. Yet the practice of bottom trawling threatens to destroy this precious resource—bulldozing our ocean floor, undermining small-scale fisheries and deepening the climate crisis. Let's end this destructive practice, starting with an immediate ban in marine protected areas and inshore zones.

Nice jacket but insufficient for heavier rain

I really like the fit and light weight of this jacket. Plume gray colorway is nice as well. However, as a rain jacket it is only good for lighter rain not a sustained downpour. I live in a climate which is generally dry but when it rains it can rain very hard and this jacket felt like it was wetting out in those conditions (hiking at 10,000 feet). ... Read MoreI bought this as a less noisy alternative for spring/summer hikes in contrast to an Ascensionist jacket, which I use in colder weather for snow shoeing and backcountry/XC skiing.

Hello Judith, thank you for your review of the Women's Granite Crest Rain Jacket. We are sorry the jacket is not keeping you dry when you are doing some higher elevation hikes. We would recommend washing and drying the jacket. We recommend this as this tends to improve the waterproof qualities of our H2No shells. Machine-wash in warm water (86˚F/30˚C) using a ‘technical wash’ specifically formulated for waterproof/breathable garments. If you don’t have a technical wash solution in your laundry room, you can use a biodegradable fragrance-free, dye-free detergent. If you are using a standard detergent, be sure to give the jacket an extra rinse cycle to ensure a residue-free garment. Drying waterproof/breathable fabrics on a medium/warm setting will help to renew the fabric’s durable water repellent (DWR) finish, which keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated in wet conditions. If after washing and drying your Granite Crest Rain Jacket, water still does not bead up but soaks into the jacket, we can help you with a [warranty return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).

Not waterproof enough for daily dog walks in the PNW

I really wanted to love this jacket. I bought it (admittedly, on sale) from REI in March to replace my Patagonia Calcite jacket, which had gotten a bit worn out and permanently dirty after a couple of years of near-daily trail walks with my dog in the Pacific Northwest. Both styles have the single zippered chest pocket, which I like for carrying my... Read More ID with me. Today was just the last straw, so I guess I'm rage reviewing. I got soaked through AGAIN wearing this over my Nanopuff. This is marketed as a "rain jacket" but I can count on my shoulders and upper back getting wet every time I walk in anything more than light rain. I have gotten soaked through to my t-shirt wearing this over my Nanopuff or a sweatshirt after less than 2 hours in wet weather. I don't understand how they can call it waterproof. I want to replace it with another Patagonia jacket, because I support the company's mission, but I don't want to keep getting soaked in the rain, particularly as winter is coming and that rain is cold. (And the jacket itself is in fine shape, except for not repelling the water.) Maybe there was a reason it was on sale. Some of the other models are hundreds of dollars more - in the spirit of "you get what you pay for," I would be willing to spend that if I was guaranteed to stay dry (and could find one with a chest pocket). But I still don't know why this jacket isn't working.

Excellent product and colour very pleased with my coat.

Very comfortable jacket, does the job well and looks great!

Keeps the rain out

Light and nice jacket, comfortable to wear. I am between 2 sizes, chose the larger one. Therefore there is room for a cowboy jacket underneath without cramping. Very long sleeves for a normal size, however very good for me as I have long arms and bike

Flattering on a little longer on me which is great

Slim Fit Rain Jacket

I am 5 ft 3, 120lb, 30D bust, 26 waist, non-curvy and the XS fits great. Theres just enough room for a sweatshirt/layers underneith. The only thing I do not like is the tail on the back- I have a short torso so it looks quite long. Zero leakage in extreme weather, this jacket is built to last!

Love, love this jacket

I absolutely love this jacket. The material is wonderful and fits perfectly on me. I have enough room to wear a sweater under it. This jacket will never go out of style. Thank you so much!!

Really like the jacket. It's lightweight and has already supported me perfectly during a rainy week of hiking in Switzerland.

hip area runs small

I'm also pear-shaped and agree with the previous reviews below. If I layer a puffer jacket underneath the medium, the outline of the puffer jacket shows up in the back on my butt, so I won't be wearing thick layers underneath. This jacket is longer in the back than the standard rain jacket I've tried on, which I prefer.

I just recently purchased this jacket and took it on two trips with me. We happened to get in a couple of significant rain storms and the jacket held up just awesome to the wind and blowing rain. So far so good

Found elaborate reviews online that helped me choose this jacket. And very happy so far with it. The upper layer can seem to absorb some drops but doesn’t let any moisture through. Lovely fresh colour (I got the light green), and love the pockets and armpit zippers. Highly recommend :)

Thrilled with this jacket

I needed a rain jacket for travel and hiking in more developing countries - we are heading to Africa in a few weeks. The jacket itself is lightweight but keeps out the rain and wind, and the fabric is soft, not crunchy like some shells out there. It pac... Read Moreks down easily into its own pocket and is so convenient to stuff into a backpack while traveling or into my handbag when running around the City. I forget its there until I need it! I got the light plume grey color, and it is a dusty bluish grey with royal purple and light turquoise accents - its a beautiful combination that hides dust and dirt well while still having a bit of subtle flair. Functionally the jacket is exactly what I need - something I can throw on when its pouring out and still be able to stay dry and walk around comfortably. I have never had to use them, but the pit zips are a nice to have option, the pockets are in the perfect spot for shoving my hands in if I want to keep them warm and dry - not too high and not too low. The hood adjustment is also good and I can pretty easily get it to fit, with the visor at just the right level to keep rain from pelting me in the eyes, without having to manually hold the hood up and away from my face or worry that it will blow off my head. Im 5 foot 4 inches and 95 pounds, so finding a jacket that fits properly and isnt too big, boxy, or short is a challenge. Im thrilled to say that Patagonias XXS feels like it was tailor made for me. Its a very flattering cut that fits perfectly at the shoulders, tapers a bit at the waist, and ends at a perfect length just below my hips covering the top half of my butt, with room for layers underneath. Looks great whether I have short shorts or pants on, with or without insulating layers underneath. Ive always loved Patagonia gear but size was always a barrier - XS always felt one size too big and I had to live with things feeling roomier than ideal. The XXS is absolutely perfect, I couldnt be happier. I really hope they continue to make XXS a regular size option on their gear going forward. Especially with well thought out and executed pieces like this jacket, Im getting ready to replace all my Arcteryx gear with Patagonia!!

Size up if purchasing Float Blue

Purchased this jacket to keep me dry on a long week hike and worked perfectly! The armpit zip is such a luxury and allows for a cooler temperature. Not a good fit for a pear-shaped figure

Looks like this should be a good jacket quality-wise, but be careful of the sizing if you have a pear-shaped figure. My measurements are XXS for chest (31in) and almost S for hips (37.5in), so I gambled on an XS that was on sale. It fits pretty well on top with ample room for layering underneath, but indeed just barely fits in the hips. If I had si... Read Morezed up to match my hips, the top would be much too baggy. So, technically, this jacket seems to run to size, BUT that suggests Patagonia standard sizing is not a great fit for my body type. I will probably keep this jacket because it fits well enough to work, and because I like the features that most other brands dont offer (recycled content, repair and resale programs, fair trade manufacturing). However, the fit makes me wary of buying Patagonia jackets or tops in the future. I wish their sizing were just an inch or two more generous in the hips, to better accommodate those of us with curvier bottoms than busts (while still not being too roomy for smaller-hipped people). I would become a steady customer if I could be confident that garments would fit.

Response from Patagonia
February 13, 2023

Hi Nikki, when the inside of your jacket has moisture, generally it is caused by moisture trying to get out or being trapped by your base layer rather than coming in from the outside. Your next to skin, base layer should keep you warm and dry underneath your jacket. Sweating and exposure to moisture in the air can quickly saturate many cotton or natural fiber base layers, so a next to skin layer of wicking fabric is critical. Moisture-wicking material transfers the water molecules from the surface of your skin to the outer clothing layers, keeping you dry from the inside out, as well as the outside in. Our [Capilene](https://www.patagonia.com/search/?q=capilene&lang=null) is an example of a wicking, fast drying base layer that is specifically designed to work with our waterproof shells.
