Bought this size S and the hips were too tight as well as the chest area but everything else felt perfect! Decided to get a size M that felt nice and roomy but now the sleeves are about 4 inches longer than my wrist. I feel so conflicted and will most likely return the S but not sure how long I will deal with the sleeves of M before probably return... Read Moreing that one too. The staple of my winter life
My first one was a hood style, but after 12 years of wearing it almost daily, when I bought a replacement it was the one with the high neck and no hood. I always want my neck kept warm. I have 2 of these jackets and love them. But this newest design is so awkward. The arms are very very long and the hip area is narrow. My other jackets fit great. Patagonia shouldnt have messed with perfection!!
Hey Leila, thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that you're not enjoying the design changes we implemented in Fall of 2022. These are the changes that took place:
- The fabric was a 1.4-oz 20x30-denier 100% recycled polyester ripstop with a DWR finish, and it is now a 1.2-oz 20-denier NetPlus 100% postconsumer recycled nylon ripstop with a PFC-free DWR finish.
- The pocket design went from welted zippers to hidden zippers.
- There was a measurement update.
- Overall improved fit (at least that's what we were aiming for).
- We added approximately 26% more down.

I love this jacket but a medium is too small and a large is a bit too big. I went large in the end so I can at least wear a thicker jumper underneath it.
I was looking for an everyday warm jacket without bulk that would be perfect for New England temperatures that change every 5 minutes and this seemed to be the right jacket for that. Not A Great Fit
Loved the jacket on the hanger but will return it. I am always a size small but this was too tight on the hips and the sleeves were too long and I had to roll them up. Almost perfect
I love Patagonia jackets but wish hips were a little wider on a small and arm length was a little shorter on a medium. I ended up going with a medium but had to roll sleeve up a little for proper fit in arms. Nice mid weight jacket!
I must be the exception to the rule in that this fit is great for my tall, thin hipped, larger on top frame. Sleeves are never too long on me, but these are really too long. I do not think the length would otherwise be an issue but there is very little stretch at the wrists so they just hang down over my hands. If I roll them back they are perfect,... This is my second purchase, I have an older model in red, and this one is the golden color. Im 5ft10, and the womens large is a great fit. Roomy in the arms so I can wear a sweater under if need be. Its a great fall or spring jacket because it keep you warm or cool!

The sleeves feel so long

Excellent down jackets
I love my down sweaters and my ultra light down sweater from many years ago. I would love to have a darker grey and a solid brown appear as an option. That Patagonia stands behind their product to the extent of repairs replacement and resale makes it of particular interest to me and I recommend Patagonia highly

I layed the new jacket on top of the old version and was shocked at how much this changed.
The new branding patch (billboard) inside the jacket is way too much. Wished they had just left this alone.

Awesome jacket
Beautiful golden color, great lightweight jacket, keeps me warm but not too hot! Very versatile, and easy to clean!
I was looking for a packable light weight puffy coat that would still keep me warm in the cold and this fits the bill perfectly. I love the feel of the jacket along with the longer body and sleeves. Added bonus, the Nouveau Green color is even better in person. I've already gotten so many compliments while wearing it... the perfect puffy!
I was replacing a grey Patagonia jacket that I lost. This jacket says it is grey but it has a soft lavender color. It is nice if that what you are looking for.

Great warm jacket
Great jacket for colder days. Very cosy and great fit. I’ll use it for hiking and walks in winter - and it fits under a waterproof shell. Also bought one for my husband. Love the company ethos!
Decided to buy after trying on my friends' jackets. Like many other reviewers, I don't love the updated fit for the down sweater. I've always been a small in Patagonia jackets; this one is too snug in the hips and loose in the chest (hourglass body type). Sleeve length was fine for me. The black jacket also looks navy blue in certain... Read More lighting. The primary reason why I returned was because every time I picked up the jacket, I found feathers poking out. I ended up purchasing the silent down jacket and am much happier with it -- better fit, just as warm, no leaking feathers so far. Still looking for a packable puffy jacket...the search continues.
Thanks for the feedback, Andrea. We're sorry to hear that it didn't work out with this jacket. We did want to mention that it usually takes some time for the down to settle in our down products. If you do encounter a poking out feather with the Silent Down, you can pull it back into the jacket from behind the face fabric and rub the exit point to prevent any further escape. After some time, the down should settle and you'll find this happening less frequently. We're glad you found an alternative that ended up working better for you!

It is comfortably warm for me.
I have the previous years style of this jacket. The new version has a higher neck, which I found to be uncomfortable. The shoulders are also larger, and it makes it look bulky because it no longer fits like the one I bought two or three years ago that was a perfect fit. All of the down sweaters I tried on in the Pittsburgh Patagonia store, the zipp... Read Moreers were extremely difficult, some of them could not be zipped. The Pittsburgh Patagonia store is a gem, they are very welcoming and helpful, available when you need their help without hovering. I live half time in Pittsburgh and half time in Philadelphia. Pittsburgh's Patagonia is my favorite. I am disappointed that this year I am not finding the style and fit that has been perfect for me until this year.
I've had past versions of this jacket and and not so happy with the update. I purchased the black, which often looks rather navy, especially against other black clothing. The hip area is a big snug and pockets are not in the most ergonomic position. The swirly baffle pattern on the sleeves is also not to my liking, as I prefer the horizontal s... Lovely lightweight jacket which is
Lovely lightweight jacket which is very warm. The fit is good too
Loved the item but the Wool White Down Sweater was transparent and I was able to see the down filling when the jacket was on. I returned it for another color and am satisfied with the fit. The arms are a little long but that is good for the cold days ahead.
I LOVE this coat! First off, I hear all of the complaints about the sleeves being too long. Well, they are finally long enough for me. I initially ordered an XL thinking that's what size I am, but it was way too big. The large fits the way I expect other large items to fit. I don't like too snug of a fit, because if it's freezing out... Read More, I want to be able to layer, but also, I like to be able to move around freely. The shoulders finally fit great. I'm a taller lady, so my arms are longer and my shoulders are slightly wider than the average sized woman. I've always wanted you guys to carry talls, but have yet to see any. But this fit the bill. I love how light weight and unconfining this coat feels. Perfection.
Have several older ones that I wear all of the time. Decided to buy this on sale but ended up returning. The redesign left the sleeves and body too long and the chest area too large on my body. It looks and fits just okay. Why mess with perfection?

Imagine my surprise when I went to the product page to find that the new DS Jackets have moved the small chest located zippered pocket from the OUTSIDE of the jacket to the INSIDE!
On my existing jacket the loca... Read Moretion of this little pocket was perfection. No need to unzip your jacket, or unbuckle your backpack harness, just reach up, unzip. With this new INSIDE the jacket location, all that ease is erased. I used this little pocket for a tissue in cold weather, lip balm, or eye drops. One quick zip and I could access these necessities while on the go not even having to look down to access it. No More!!
The new location inside the jacket will require more time and energy. I ask, Why change a good thing?
I have loved my old jacket and it has been around the world with me and served me incredibly well against light chill or temps down to 50 degrees by itself, and been light and easy to wear and carry. I am not sure I will purchase the new version of this jacket with this pocket relocation, as that little outside chest pocket was one of the things I loved about the DS Jacket.
Patagonia, please bring this feature back to the OUTSIDE of the jacket!!
Next time I will buy xxs since this one is too big and baggy in the body and sleeves are too long. I will wear this one over sweaters and multi layers. Disappointed
I have 3 of the old style women's down sweaters which I have bought over the year and love them, but my favorite is worn and discolored. I ordered a replacement when I saw they are carrying the same blue. Why did Patagonia mess with perfection? The new style is longer in the torso, which is ok, but there is way too much fabric in the chest and... Read More upper back. The real deal breaker for me was the sleeve length. The sleeves are at least 2-3 inches longer than my old jacket. The overall look is sloppy and unflattering. Sadly, I am returning this item. Patagonia has always been my go to brand, but I guess I need to rethink this.

Sleeves way too long
I have loved my previous down sweater so hard that it needed to be replaced. The new one I purchased had to be returned because the sleeves come all the way down past the end of my pinky fingers - and I have long arms!
This coat is very lightweight, stylish, and warm. I am 5 foot 1 and 99 lbs with shortish arms and the XXS fits well. The sleeves are a tiny bit long on me, but not as long as I thought they would be based on other reviews. The shoulders and hips fit well. I love this jacket, but it would look much nicer if the logo was more discreet. Thats my favorite thing about my silent down jacket. I wish I could get the same style with the hidden logo in a lighter jacket like this one.
I purchased this jacket in XS approximately 8 months ago. I already own 6 jackets in the prior version (the version just before this version was introduced). I absolutely love the prior version. It fits perfectly and I can wear a down vest underneath without it being tight or uncomfortable. It is extremely well made.
I do not love this new version... Read More. I am fairly small - 5'5'' and 112 lbs. The new version is larger on the top, slightly smaller at the hip area and slightly shorter. My hips are approximately 33 1/2 ". While it fits okay with a light layer, I cannot comfortably wear a down vest underneath because the hip area is smaller, and the jacket is somewhat shorter. In addition to the fit issues, the construction and materials are just not as good as the prior version. The lining is thinner, the shoulders and arms have changed, and the draw sting design has also changed. I will not be purchasing any additional jackets made in this version. I really wish that they would return to the prior version - both the fit and design. Probably not going to happen though. I am glad I bought several of the prior version.

A little too long in model
I would have preferred it a little shorter but otherwise, perfect!
I bought this for my wife. I have one too. It is quite warm, works outside in winter in the NW on all but rainy days. And we are old people, so we can wear in the house in winter.
I put the detailed review in the box above. It is cheating to read ahead an a quiz to see whats coming. :-)
I love both the quality and green color of this jacket, however, it is a bit snug around the bottom. If I try to layer anything under it, it would be too tight. I wear a size 8 or 10 and am 5 ' 7'', 155 lbs. I would exchange it, but the shoulders and arms fit perfectly, so sadly I need to return it.

Best all around!
I love this jacket. I wear it casual and for sports. It is a great all around.
I had one from a year ago that my dog ripped a hole in it so I got another one. I ordered the same size and the new one is a little bigger. Sleeves a longer, jacket a little wider, etc. I love it however. Just should have tried on first.

Love this jacket!
This is a very pretty light purple that I got a good sale price. It is still a bit cool in the mornings, and this is the jacket I have grabbed as I head out. Love that the arms are long enough for me. Please don't change the sleeve lengths - tall peeps need the longer sleeves.
The cream color is beautiful and can be styled for a classic look. This lightweight down is warm without out adding a heavy layer. It has been a wonderful addition to my winter wardrobe.
Love this coat. Warm, light weight and comfortable. Sizing true and I like room for a vest so I sized up. I will buy it again when this one wears (I bought my first when it was a new product for Patagonia).
Comfortable well made jacket. Nice deep pockets with zippers. Arms are a little long which I like because if I dont have gloves on my hands are still warm. Big enough to wear a sweater underneath if needed. The only problem is it is a little tight around the bottom which makes it a little difficult to zip, but not impossible.

I was trying to replace my 22 year old Patagonia puffy coat and ordered this new one. Bummer that it was substantially longer in length so I had to return it. I love Patagonia but with the changes made it no longer is a fit for me.
She wore it to a trip to Oregon and Washington through snow and rain. Though not water proof, she stayed warm. She is generally a cold person so layering with this on the outside helped a lot. One tiny con is not a lot of option for colors. She bought a bigger size to layer, typically shes an XS.
I was so excited to receive my XS jacket! The jacket was well made, and beautiful! Then I tried it on; sadly I had to return it. It was too long, the sleeves were huge. PLEASE Patagonia make some petite sizes, I do not want to purchase a kids jacket! I am 5 feet tall 100 pounds. Thanks!

I love this down sweater but ...
This down sweater fits great and is a perfect weight and warmth for chilly but not winter cold weather ... however, the shell fabric is TOO thin which results in small holes thru which down starts leaking and once it starts leaking, it doesn't quit. I expect these to last more than a couple of years without 'breaking down'. Perhaps that is simply built-in obsolescence?!

Nice and light
Patagonia has always been reliable. Only thing I would change is to make it look a little more sliming and the wrist band area to be smaller. Everything else is great!
Very warm, lightweight and wind resistant. Allows full range of movement without bunching when used as a liner or having cold spots. The liner clings to body to eliminate drafts. Feels better with a layer or more underneath. Down pokes in the under arm region if wearing a light t- Shirt so it would be nice if there was another layer of liner in the... I bought this jacket in the Sound Blue color which I love. This inspired me to get it in Rustic Purple. It is even prettier in person when you try it on. The fit is perfect on me. I love the new jacket its light weight but warm when you need it but could still wear it on warmer windy days and not be too warm. The color is great and like the pink contrast inside.

Love the style
I love the fit on the down sweater jacket much more than the nano puff. It's warmer too but has a fitted look. Love the purple color just in time for spring.
I love my old Patagonia down sweater and I am very sad they changed the cut. It is shaped more for a man than a woman. It is broad in the shoulders, long in the sleeves and tight around the hips. Please, Please, go back to your old pattern.

Love it
This is a great puffy. I love how warm but light it is, and it looks good on. My girls are big, but for comfortably in this jacket. Only two minor wishes, while the slim pockets are deep and comfortable, the discreet zippers can be a pain to grab. Please bring the old fit back. The fit of this jacket is very strange at the bottom of the jacket. It is tighter than the rest of the jacket and a few inches too long and just looks odd. This was not the case on previous models.
I have wanted one of these for a long time and was delighted to see the color I like on sale. Love the warmth, style, pockets and the bright pink interior with matching zipper pulls. I bought an XL which is roomy. A large is likely the truer size for my height and weight (5ft 5inches & 160#) but I like clothes on the loose side.
I wear a Patagonia S, but when I tried this on at the Cambridge, MA store, it felt a little close on the hips. I wanted room for a bulky sweater, if needed, so I ordered the medium. It was way, way too big around chest and waist, and just right on hips. Very disappointed with the fit.

I have bought a lot of dupes in the past for puffer coats. Finally my husband me got me this jacket and it looks great! Lightweight and warm and fits well.
My fav jacket is this jacket from maybe 6 years ago. . .set-in sleeves, way better color options then. . .a bright cheery blue. It's been amazing. . .still wearing it with original zipper! lightweight, warm, happy
This is a much better option for cold temps than the Nanopuff.
The down sweater is close/slim fitting but works well over a thin sweater or lightweight long sleeved shirt. Interior chest pocket is perfect for putting in some credit cards or folded paper money, a set of keys.
Wow, I cannot believe this jacket checked all the boxes - fit, style, color, length and weight. I wanted a down jacket that was warm but lightweight and easy to pack/wear when travelling. I chose this jacket over the hoody version because hoods usually add too much bulk (unless they are removeable). Beautiful jacket!
Absolutely love this jacket. It is so lightweight and comfortable. I took it with me to North Carolina and it was perfect. Had a light t-shirt underneath and it kept me warm. It is also packable so it took up almost no room in my suitcase. Would definitely recommend this jacket!!!
I got the grey/blue jacket and love the look, though like others, I find that the jacket is tight at the hips. I'm tall and slender and did not have this problem with my previous Patagonia jacket. I hope the designers take note of the comments. Not sure who they are using as models!

Decline in quality
I recently warranted my old down sweater (aside: it's fantastic that I was able to do that and Patagonia has such a robust warrantee program) after a decade of wear. Excellent jacket!
This is a perfect down jacket. I wasn't sure how the fit would be, based on reviews, but I found it perfect: I'm 5'9" ~133 and the S fits perfectly, with some room for a layer underneath (you'd want a M if you plan on thicker layers). Perfect warm layer, but inconsistent sizing
I already have this jacket in an XS and love it! I'm always cold when alpine skiing and this has kept me warm when paired with a shell. I wanted to purchase another and I tried on the XS in the store before ordering and it fit well. Patagonia gear has gotten thinner every year. I get light-weight but im not convinced thinner is better. Very disappointed in both article of clothing recently purchased bc it feels cheap and I question its value.

BITES!
I have worn Patagonia products forever, and this is the first down sweater i dont recommend !
The fit is good. But the problem is that the down feather ends poke through the lining, constantly biting my back and arms ! Not good.
Probably wont continue to wear.

It is completely natural for some of the down and feathers to escape through the fabric, particularly in the seams. The sharp quills of the feathers can poke tiny holes in the fabric and work their way through to the outside. It is normal for this to happen, particularly in newer products when the down has not had an opportunity to settle. In rare cases, a material defect may cause excessive down leakage in a product which is covered under warranty. Love this jacket. Have been using my previous version down sweater for over 15yrs and love it. This ones great but fits narrower in the hips and more room in the chest. Loved everything about this but it was a little snug with a sweater underneath. That was why I got a medium instead of small. I have a puff coat In medium and it works perfectly. I do love the weight and warmth and looks.
I bought this to wear under my ski jacket shell on cold days and also to wear running around town on a cool day. Its lightweight, warm and is exactly what I was looking for!
I bought this jacket a few years ago but barely wore it. I recently noticed that the collar was stained with a dark color. Not sure where/how it happened. This down sweater is working perfectly for me while visiting Vermont. I wear it under my Gortex in the snow and am pleasantly warm. The Amaranth Pink color is gorgeous and the fit is perfect! Really light and really warm!
I love this jacket- its even lighter than the nano puff and super warm. I just it as a light layer to ski or to warm up for tennis. It looks sharp and very comfy for all occasions. Love the blue purple color.
This is a beautiful sweater. I love the blue green color. Its a little too long for me and tight around the hips but Im keeping it. Zipper is hard to engage.

Snowshoe jackets
The large was a little tight but the xl was perfect. Its extremely warm yet light weight. It also worked well in the light mist I wore it in.
I've had my Down Sweater for a few weeks and love it. It's light, but warm and the cut is very flattering. I like the zippered pockets and while I've not had to pack it yet, I love that it can be very compact. I'm very pleased with the Down Sweater and highly recommend it (I got it on sale, so that was a big plus!).
I bought this new jacket to replace my Down Sweater jacket from spring of 2016 because the inseams on the arms kept catching on the pocket zippers. This created holes in the jacket where the down was falling out for years. It was time to replace the jacket and I am so glad I did! This updated version does not have that zipper issue. This jacket is super cute, light and fluffy, but still very warm! I got a medium so I could layer under this jacket (I'm 5'4", 145lb). I got the purple color which I love. I've been wearing at all temps under 60. Definitely recommend.
I love it because it is a light jacket, yet it adapts to my body temperature and the weather. I can dress sporty or casual and it looks wonderful. It is easy to care for and requires little space in your tote bag. Texas folk we need this piece in our wardrobe.

Super light and warm.
I own many Patagonia jackets. I was hesitant to order this down sweater jacket because of narrow hem. I ordered size large and extra-large. The extra-large was too big. I kept the size big. The fitting was not tight but a little loose. This jacket is not bulky and very warm. Easy to take care off, wash cold water and tumble dry. No regrets ordering... Read More this jacket. Love warmth/weight of this jacket. Have it in multiple colors. Can use as an outer jacket, or as an under base when in the coldest days in Colorado. It is a winner! Its sleeve length is actually long enough for a tall person- added bonus. Really like this jacket design.

It's a nice muted lavender color. The coat is warm outdoors yet comfortable enough to wear in the car as well. The fit is not bulky and looks slim fitting.

I absolutely love my down sweater! It is my "Goldilocks Jacket": not too hot, not too cold, just right for the upper 30s to high 50s damp, coastal California days/nights. For a puffy jacket it fits close enough to be flattering too.
I wanted to love my Down Sweater but the fit was weird. The color was also not what I expected. I normally wear a small in other brands but because Patagonia runs small I went up to a medium. The bottom was tight around the hips, the arms were long and the shoulders wide. Patagonia needs to adjust the fit of woman's jackets and coats.

Cozy!
Jacket is lightweight and perfect for a walk when its 35-40 degrees. Love it!
This sweater is light as a feather, but oh so warm! It fits snug but looks good even though I don't usually like form fitted jackets. I love the fact that I hardly realize it is on. For being such a forward thinking company it has always bothered me that Patagonia does not do a better job with size inclusivity. After this last purchase I had to write a review.
This is a great jacket from Patagonia. It's super lightweight for the warmth it offers. It's easy to move in; not bulky. Even when wearing a Re-Tool underneath, I still have room to move about freely. Always great quality and service from Patagonia.
I always get these for my kids and thought it was time to get myself one. Its light weight and keeps me so warm. Its not the most stylish casual jacket but it does the job of being packable and warm.
This jacket is as advertised - it packs small, is lightweight and warm. I think it'll be what I bring with me 3/4 Minnesota seasons (winter deserves a heavier choice - or layers I guess!). It's already traveled to Mexico and was a great choice for cool nights. Stylish cut, not bulky. I especially appreciate the long arms in this jacket.

I bought the large size in Sound Blue at REI. This jacket fits me perfectly: the sleeves are nice and long right past my wrist (I like that length), I can wear it over a fleece jacket for a nice snug fit, and its warm. I love the pink interior and pink zipper pulls. This is my new favorite jacket of the five I own. Its perfection!
I purchased and returned this coat because I didnt like it for layering. I prefer the nano puff because it fits closer to the body. I wear a nanopuff under a shell. For whatever reason, this sweater, even in my regular size, had a slightly looser fit.

Love this jacket!
This is the perfect weight for cool weather and layering for really cold temperatures. It is lightweight and easy to pack.
I wanted something for high elevation winter hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, etc., so I first bought the AlpLight down jacket. It was a very strange fit for me, so I thought I would try this and see how different it really is, functionally. For reference, I'm 5'5", and 39", 29", 40. I'm not a super athlete anymore.... Read More This fits me much better, and I like the color I was able to get better - but it is definitely thicker and honestly I don't think it's as warm as the AlpLight. I find it a little strange that this is called a down sweater, when it's too thick to fit under another coat, but the AlpLight down jacket might fit under a coat, and is more packable. I'm afraid I'll probably return this one, even though I like it better, because it's not as functional for the purpose I bought it for. I could wear it in my very cold home office as a sweater. For outerwear, I prefer something longer, unless I'm doing something active, in which case the AlpLight is probably better.
Hey Ava, thanks for the thorough and detailed review. The Alplight was designed for alpine pursuits so it will definitely be more lightweight and packable, but the Down Sweater is pretty packable as well. With that said, it does have more loft and bigger baffles. We think the [Women's Micro Puff Jacket](https://www.patagonia.com/product/womens-micro-puff-jacket/84071.html?dwvar_84071_color=HMKG&cgid=root) might be worth checking out considering what you are looking for. It does not have down insulation but the synthetic works well in wet weather and it is also very packable.

Great all around jacket
I really like this jacket. It is lightweight yet very warm. Fits true to size and very comfortable. Sure to be a favorite go to!
This is my 4th Down Sweater and it is noticeably cut slimmer than my other 3. Im not certain why Patagonia found it necessary to change the cut from the original but it is not nearly as comfortable as the original cut.

Excellent versatility
I bought this to upgrade from my daughters 7-year old version and enjoy the newer inside pockets and deep blue color. Ive experimented with layering and have found the coat to be warm into the windy 20s with just a medium weight fleece or wool sweater underneath. The neck zips up to my chin which is also an improvement I appreciate. Its a bit tight... All in all, this is a versatile winter coat and warmer than expected for a down sweater.
