Great Shirt but lose the plastic!
The Capilene Cool Merino t shirts i ordered are really nice. Quality fabric and construction. No itch or smell. However, upon receipt each shirt was wrapped in a plastic bag. I love your products and everything Patagonia stands for, except the plastic bags!
Really wanted it love this shirt. Wore it twice and both times it caused irritation and redness around my neck at the neck opening. I’ve never had an allergic reaction to wool. It seemed to be the liner around the seam inside the neck that got me. Nice color but had to return it.
This time the shirt is excellent, like the first time i bought it. Last two years the fabric was very thin, almsot transparant, and quick to stink up, but this time it was again the high quality material that you can wear for many days as it is so wonderfully odor-resistant and smooth.
I had three of these. The fit, feel, and temperature regulation are great but the fabric is too fragile for mountain biking, one crash is all it takes to rip it to shreds, two have ended in the trash. Even when only used for hiking the shirt exhibited excessive pilling in pack contact areas.
We're sorry to hear about the experience you've had with these shirts, and we appreciate this feedback, Luis. Your purchase is covered under our [Ironclad Guarantee](https://help.patagonia.com/s/article/Ironclad-Guarantee), so we encourage you to either visit the Patagonia-owned retail store near you or reach out to our Customer Service team to discuss a warranty return, and avoid the products ending up in the landfill. Shrunk first wash
Dont bother following the care instructions, they dont stop this from shrinking on the first wash. I was so disappointed in the result that I forgot about it until I saw that it is still being sold. Nothing better than a $60 crop top!
Great for hiking, biking and running. Also looks great with jeans. I often wear traveling too because it is comfortable and odor resistant on long trips. I have four of these. I wish there were more colors!
I generally enjoy Patagonia gear, but I had a disappointing experience with this particular shirt. It initially felt comfortable when I wore it, thanks to the merino wool fabric that doesn't require frequent washing. However, when I eventually washed it in cold water using a short cycle and opted for air drying, the shirt shrank and no longer ... Great shirt
Thin and lightweight, keeps me cool during workouts, and looks great
This is an excellent t-shirt for high output activities, even in hot weather. The only nit that I would have relates to the delicate nature of the fabric, which sheds fibers during washing (I use Woolite in cold water). I have had two of these shirts about a month. I will need to monitor how well they last over time.
Hi Rick, what a bummer about the static cling! A great way to take care of static is by using a water bottle. Just give your shirt a little spritz, back and front, and that should take care of the issue.
Elegant merino blend t-shirt. Will be a go to choice for all day outdoor activities. Great choice for all-day gravel rides, for those of us who eschew road cycling jerseys.
The T-Shirt fits well, and is odour resistant. Dries quickly. However after only 1 wear for 4 hours, the fabric has started piling. Seems like its the issue with merino wool.
Hi Zhi Y! Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We're really sorry to hear your shirt has started to pill. We recommend machine washing on cold on a gentle cycle and laying flat to dry. If the shirt continues to pill and you're dissatisfied you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).
I'm not sure where we are in iterations of this particular shirt is but as someone who works to have the line perform and keeps their Patagonia gear moving over decades this is a monumental fail. I really wanted to love these and expected to replace all my capilene with this the wool blend. I finally had enough and returned to the local branch of Patagonia where I live. This products felt great was true to size and technically did what is was designed to do, except in one major aspect and that was wear well. If I had gone climbing in J-Tree, it would have been shredded first time out.
Sono al terzo acquisto di questo modello di tshirt, davvero leggera e comoda, traspirante nei periodi caldi, accogliente nelle stagioni più fresche, ottimo materiale.
I've wore this shirt a few times now during very hot and muggy days at the Gunks. It dries quick and doesn't smell at the end of the day. Definitely recommend! I am usually between a Small and a Medium, and sized up to a Medium. It fits well.
Its not just a black Tshirt. It feels great on. Very soft matterial, good quality. Doesnt smell after a big hike or camping.
I'll buy 2 or 3 more for sure.
This XS fits like an XS (rare these days as everything is bigger than labeled--even at Patagonia).
Dries quickly and resists odors. I can wear this 2-3 times after runs before washing it.
My uses--running and occasionally indoor climbing. I run outside in the elements year round.
Bought this for my partner who works in a hot and humid environment and does not like baggie/ relaxed fit shirts. The navy color is nice, material is really soft, merino breathes well, and he likes the fit.
Love these shirts!! So light and loose, perfect for MTB and trail running here in Southern California. They look really nice as a casual shirt as well. I bought xl and also some xxl for a looser fit when riding with the boys.
Nice for casual wear, not durable enough for backpacking.
Shirt is great for casual wear - I'm a sweaty guy, and it dries quick and stays super comfortable. However - it is not durable enough for backpacking or what I would consider "real" outdoor use.

On both sides of the shirt, it got tons of the little "balls" where the waist belt sits (the little lint type balls that you find on sweaters and sweater vests). Worse, on one side, the shirt just fell apart at the seem. This was after only about 2 miles.
I've used this same pack setup for many years and almost always wear wool shirts (mostly Smartwool). I've never had these problems even after multiple days in the same conditions. This shirt literally only lasted for about 45 minutes or so.
Overall, I'm still giving 4 stars since the shirts are super comfortable, light, and dry well. However, they are just not durable enough for true outdoor use.
Hi Joe! Thank you for writing us a review on the Capilene Cool Merino Shirt. We're incredibly sorry to hear that the shirt started to pill and come apart at the seams so quickly. This isn't the quality we expect out of our gear so we'd consider this a warranty issue. We've reached out to you directly with further assistance.

The perfect shirt.
Hands down my new favorite shirt. I bought several for work travels in SE Asia. They are light weight, hold their shape, breathe well in the hot and humid temps, and dry fast. Cannot recommend enough.
I wear this t-shirt as a base layer when backcountry skiing. It does a great job of wicking away sweat on the climbs leaving you warm and dry for the descents. I'm 6', 180 w wide shoulders and the Large fits perfectly. You can wear this shirt for a 2 or 3 day backcountry tour and it will NOT stink. I do miss the older 100% merino wool t-s... Read Morehirts that were thinner and stretchier but this is a solid alternative.
Great base layer for winter. Transports moisture, keeps me warm. Compared to all capilene, it shrank a little in the laundry -- next time I'll get a size larger.
This line of Patagonia shirts is a staple in my wardrobe. The "slim fit" is perfect, and this plain black shirt is a work staple for me. I would like to have a few more!
I've now purchased five of these shirts. I bought my first two in December for a trip to Europe where we (my wife and I) were expecting colder weather than we experience in the Coachella Valley, CA. At Patagonia's suggestion, I bought size L rather than XL and glad I did as my older capilene base layers were too baggy. The best part of th... Read Moreese base layers is that they are so light, yet cozy, you hardly know you are wearing an undergarment (which never happens in the heat we live in). Subsequent to our trip I purchased three more of these baselayers. If I had one wish it is that Patagonia would make a white tee in the same line. If it does, I missed it. I'd buy it in a minute. While I line dry my merino shirts (they dry literally in minutes in our dry climate) you can machine wash them with no worries about shrinkage. Oh, btw, these shirts exude zero smells formerly associated with the old capilene.
I love these t-shirts and have ordered them 3 times. I love the versatility of the shirt, it is warm or cool depending on the weather. They breath etc. ONLY complaint is they are too delicate. Maniche corte attive
Le proverò meglio in primavera però da quel poco che le ho usate nelle tiepide giornate invernali... funzionano
I love the shirt and I size up for more true to size fit. Usually I wear and XL in shirts but in this I go to an XXL. My only issue is the durability. I have ripped 3 of them. Make this your go to t-shirt for traveling
Wool is the best for almost any adventure. This works well on it's own. Although, I usually use it as an undershirt to make my other shirts last longer between washing. Unlike some other baselayers, these stay fresher longer. And, they're not just for cold weather wear. They work great for all-season adventures.
Really liking these shirts. The material is quite nice, thin, light, cool, and tough. The fit is a bit tight, but not too bad. I am usually not a fan of Patagonia T's, but these are awesome.
I love the material and it fit perfect. After my first time wearing it my wife washed the shirt and then put in the dryer. After she pulled it out the dryer I think it shrunk down to the size of a small so I can no longer wear it. I think it is simply a user error.
Usate per 2 giorni in montagna tra Mountain Bike e Trekking. Traspirante, rapidissima asciugatura, tiene la temperatura corporea sia con il caldo delle ore centrali che col il fresco mattutino
Really enjoying those shirts so far, soft despite being made of wool and quite comfortable. Very thin, which I like, but be mindful if you're looking for something thicker. Great for summer. Appreciate the wool content to keep odors out over the long-term.
I love a merino tee. My first one lasted some indecent length of time. I like orange, I like merino, it's good. Small caution about the fabric though is that because of how thin it is, you must be cautious. Cuddly kitties can make for an expensive accident.
This piece is just right as a base layer for western NC winters. Really like the slim fit and smooth feel under mid and outer layers. The synthetic blend should hold up better than the 100% Moreno T's of earlier years as well.
This shirt is great in warmer weather, love the merino content doesn't get clammy when wet and dries quickly. Good fit not to tight. Easy to layer with other pieces.
Ive got several 100% merino Ts and they can be a like warm in the summer
As a somewhat tall and thin guy, I was surprised to find this shirt to fit quite tight. The FABRIC, however, is where Patagonia have now really got it wrong. Although soft, it is very, very thin with poor stretch properties compared to the merino wool t-shirts of ten years ago. (Those contained something like 85% wool / 15% nylon.) The blend of 65%... Read More wool / 35% polyester results in a fabric that is less durable and less comfortable, especially when wet. When damp/wet, the shirt sticks to my skin and is awfully difficult to remove. To take advantage of wool's wicking properties, the fabric needs to be thicker. (Wool and nylon threads elongate when wet, while polyester tends not to.) Beyond that, a thin fabric like this simply becomes saturated. I understand that Patagonia (admirably) strive to incorporate recycled polyester into their textile supply, but I sense that the case of this shirt, that and cost were the only two factors that got considered.

Love it!
I have mostly used it for long to middle distance running, in pretty warm weather (between 17-25 degrees celsius). However, I can see it work even better in lower tempratures. The fabric works just as it should, dries quickly and the fit is absolutly perfect. Love it!
I used to wear cotton t-shirt all the time. Usually I could only wear them for one day before they started smelling of sweat. With these merino t-shirt, this does not happen. They are expensive, but really impressive. Because they don't need washing as often, you can get away with owning much fewer of them too, compared to cotton t-shirts.
I basically cleared my shirt drawer to make room for 4 of these, Im loving these and really only want to wear thes versus my old ones. Great fit , flattering for us no too fit guys. Dries quick. And good price worth the
End of summer sale!
I just did a 1100 mile bike tour and this shirt was my mvp (most valuable piece of equipment). I wore it every day for 26 days, washed it out every night, it was dry in the morning. It did not stink and very comfortable. I bought two for my son who is also active. You cant go wrong with this and worth every penny.
Good looking and pleasant to wear. The light blue color is more beautiful in reality than in the photo. Appropriate for late Spring or early Autumn, a bit too thick for Summer (I am from a temperate continental region).
Fits slim - especially after being washed. Super soft & comfortable. Wicks sweat effectively and dries out quickly. I've worn this shirt mountain biking and to work. My only complaint is a bit of nipple chafing but that was only on multi-hour mountain bike rides in very humid climates.
Good. Breathable, light,no sweat and I sweat like crazy normally
Only negative is the fit. I wish it was more loose. I purchased size S and M and they both feel too much on my body while L is too long. I just wish it was a bit more loose fit. Nevertheless, I will buy few more in different colors and I hope white arrives soon!
I originally got this to be an everyday T-shirt. It turned out to be just a little smaller than I expected, so I started using it as a running shirt. I love it! Best running shirt I've ever owned.
This is an absolutely perfect shirt.
It's super lightweight and breathable so it feels great on hot days, but it's not see through. The cut is great, it hangs loose but is not baggy. It wicks sweat and doesn't get stinky over time. And the design is very minimal so you can wear it every day.

Mine gets drenched during a long run but dries out rather quickly when I'm done, and it doesn't hold any odor. I typically wear mine for several days of intense activity without it needing a wash. That all said, it's DELICATE. It can snag and little micro tears appear out of nowhere. It pills a bit but I don't mind that, as it makes it even softer over time. A heavy pack could exacerbate pilling or micro-tearing. Overall, solid piece that I definitely recommend. Hopefully some improvements can be made in it's durability.
This shirt is a nice weight and size for trail running while wearing a hydration vest. It regulates temperature well and doesn't bunch up under the hydration vest.
Merino-blends are great at moisture-control, so this shirt has become a great warm-weather and active wear shirt for me. A great simple shirt for me to wear for nearly anything.
My husband wears this for hiking, skiing on a warmish day, walking in the city, and sometimes even for sleep. He loves the feel of the wool, the tendency to stay fresh smelling, and the versatility.
Perfect for any activity rowing, cycling and especially for multiday traveling. Easy to pack two, they don't take up much space and can be washed in the sink and worn in and hour or two.
I have tried similar shirts where I didn't like the 2 way stretch. They sag when sweaty to the length of a dress which tugged and was very uncomfortable. Good overall but wish it was more durable
I have been a Patagonia customer for nearly ten years. I love that you try to offer longer lasting garments among the general trend for fast fashion. Do not compromise on the durability of your products!

Material. I like the new 65-35 merino-polyester blend. It’s soft and very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, it is nowhere near the durability level I am getting from my 2019 Capilene Cool Daily. The new t-shirt had a visible peeling on the lower back after single use under Patagonia backpack going to a bouldering gym. I am afraid I will tear this t-shirt unless I am careful.
Finish. My item had some loose threads hanging out from the material (around collar area). This is not how I remember Patagonia products which always had a perfect finish in terms of sewing and threads. I also do not like that 2021 model items are saving up on the product labels (you just get a paper insert instead of the last years material one).
Overall. I would expect a bit more durability from the T-shirt given the price point and Patagonia’s aspiration to sell longer lasting garments. Keep designing products that last longer and are recyclable!
Beware, I washed as per instructions and after

Hi Kori, due to the knit of this item, pilling can be more noticeable on a Capilene® Cool Merino Shirt. To prevent pilling, we recommend washing that item either by hand in cool to cold water, or separately in your washing machine on the gentle cycle. It's best to lay it flat to dry rather than place it in the dryer where the fabric can easily get abraded.
To remove pilling that has already occurred, a sweater shaver or sweater stone is an excellent tool and can help the garment look brand new again.
Of course, if you are not pleased with the performance of your Capilene® Cool Merino Shirt, you are absolutely welcome to send those in for a warranty returns evaluation under our Ironclad Guarantee, https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html.

Shirt of the Summer
By far my favorite shirt of the summer to be in, whether I am fly guiding or chasing after my toddlers. This shirt has been my go to all summer long here in the RF valley of Colorado.
I have one of the old cotton and capilene shirts that I am literally wearing holes in. I wanted to replace it but Patagonia stopped making suitable a replacement. I didn't really care to much about the price since I knew that I would get at least a decade (if not two like my other shirt) of use out of it.
I have only used it once on a longer... Read More outdoor day, MTB riding in Tahoe, but I think it was a good test day. I was sweaty enough that I was getting salt rings on my pack then got a tiny bit of sprinkles on it on the way back to the car. Afterwards, we hung out and chatted over lunch. I was never too warm or cold.
The only thing I am worried about is the thinness and getting snagged on a tree or something like that. Otherwise, I am sure I will enjoy this shirt for a while.
This shirt feels so great you'll want to wear it all the time. Unlike many of my other Patagonia Wool shirts, this one has limits. I purchased 3 short sleeves and 3 longs sleeves and the issues are: 1. Shrinks a good amount (washed on cold, dried on low), not a dealbreaker. 2. Can not handle any type of friction from a pack; my day pack straps... Read More caused 2 minor holes in the shoulder/collar area and my backpack belt created many holes around my stomach. Patagonia made good as they always do, I just now have to limit what I do in this shirt. It will be great for runs, short hikes without a pack and hanging around. I imagine it will also be a great layering shirt come fall/winter.
Hi Kenny, we're so sorry to hear about the untimely wear on those Men's Capilene® Cool Merino Shirts. We'd be happy to take those back as a warranty return under our Ironclad Guarantee. Please feel free to begin that process here, https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html.

Extreme comfort
Great packable base layer/ shirt for any occasion.
Just when I thought I couldn't find a better shirt they had to release this thing! Absolutely hands down the best shirt I own, I actually own 3 of them now. It's insanely soft and comfortable. Super breathable, and you can wear it multiple times before it gets stinky. Love the merino wool and recycled polyester blend. Hopefully new colors... Read More come out soon!
This shirt is so comfy for hiking! But as with other technical shirts from Patagonia this year I have had pilling. It happened on a week of 5-7mile day hikes in the Red River Gorge of Kentucky. Anywhere the waist belt and lumbar pad contacted the shirt it pilled up. This shirt less than other materials.
This shirt is great! Very breathable and perfect for summer hikes. The merino wool is fantastic, I can easily get away with 4 or 5 wears before I feel it needs a wash
