Love, benchmark down sweater
My wife took my size medium, which was getting snug on me so I bought this in a large. I'm now 5'10" 185 and it's the perfect fit/cut. Wow, what a fantastic and versatile jacket and amazing warmth to weight ratio. I wear this as my typical go to jacket in Wisconsin fall and winters even when temps get down into the 10-25F range.... Amazing quality and feel
When I first got it out of the package, it looked a little bit smaller, but as soon as you touched it, you immediately see the level of craftsmanship and quality that you're dealing with. It feels amazing and even though the fabrics feel light, it's very warming. Great product, totally recommend
My first Patagonia disappointment
This is actually my second review of this jacket. Originally, I had nothing but good things to say. It was a 5-star product and one that I fell in love with almost immediately. In a lot of ways that made what happened next even more disappointing. I used the jacket a grand total of three times before feathers started to come out of the jackets seem... Read Mores (not sure if thats the correct spelling on that, I apologize if not). Strangest of all the activities I used it for were not demanding. I used it around the house, shopping, and sitting around the fire at my friends house late into the night. The day after that last gathering I noticed six different spots where feathers were leaking. I ended up taking it to the Patagonia store I bought it from and they took it for store credit. I'd like to point out that what I'm describing is abnormal for Patagonia's product quality. I have several other products from them that have preformed much better. I believe that I may have received a faulty product, so your experience with this jacket might be better. Personally, I'd recommend going with a synthetic option instead as I've found them to be more reliable. The ones I'm looking at now are the Micro puff and DAS light.
My favorite jacket
I'm now on my second Men's Down Sweater. The first lasted for a solid 9 years without losing too much down and still being warm and insulating; it never tore despite me using it for hundreds of camping, hiking, skiing and other outdoor trips. I still use that one, it's just pretty stained up and it's the bright blue, so I went w... Read Moreith a new black option. I always run hot, but something about how this jacket is so well made, I can wear it for a much wider range of temperatures than I can with other jackets before I'm either sweating in mild temperatures or cold in very low temperatures. Jacket had holes where the feathers are falling out off. Looks like a manufacturer defects.
Hello Yency, we're sorry that the down was coming out of your jacket! This can be the nature of down insulated items. We recommend pulling the feathers back in from the opposite side of the fabric and then massage the fibers back together, essentially sealing the hole back up. Finally, I found my perfect jacket!
It feels like Ive been through every puffy Patagonia has to offer this last week. Here is whats good: lofty and warm, feels like a warm hug, packs down really well, colors and materials are spot on, quality is good (as it should be, quite an expensive jacket), is warmer than it looks. I have one complaint about this jacket. It doesnt have interior drop in pockets! Please Patagonia! Put drop in pockets in all the jackets! All in all really, really good. Fits me well although I am on the more slim side of things. I dont think you can go wrong with this jacket. I look forwards to having it for years and years to come!
Just the right amount of insulation
It's just the amount of warmth I wanted, typically use it for mid-20's to mid 40's kind of weather. At 5'5" but with broad shoulders, a medium is a perfect fit. A discreetly tucked in hood could be an improvement--the jacket that replaced this with had one which came in handy.
I've had a bunch of these over the last twenty years and I wear them until they are toast. Great for casual wear when it's pretty warm because they breathe, great as a layer beneath a shell for winter when it's cold. I prefer the older inner pocket with the horizontal zipper to the newer one with the vertical zipper.
Season After Season, My Go-To Piece
I have owned this jacked for more years than I know. At least 5, made as many as 10. It is a go-to piece for every use in Vermont. I wear it out in fields doing work, out walking the dogs, hiking and bushwhacking, in the car, over layers of fleece and po... Read Morely and just about every place one can imagine. It is probably my favorite all around piece. It is light and versatile and warmer and more stuff able than synthetics. And it cleans up well. I toss it in the washer and then the dryer with tennis balls and voila, like new. Two years ago, I was shoveling snow against the house and didn't see a vent behind me. Rrrrip! Sent it to Patagonia and they cheerfully repaired it, not just the rip but a few worn places. I made a mistake earlier this winter, I traversed several acres of briars in a logged area and back again. The rips were big and gnarly and I sliced my jacket up in 4-5 places. I asked Patagonia what to do. They said, "Send it to us, we'll see what we can do." Like me, Patagonia likes to see stuff last as long as it can. Unfortunately, after looking at it, the folks in the repair department said it was "beyond repair". I think they were right. The time to repair it was more than creating a new jacket. But wonderful Patagonia wasn't done. They gave me a partial credit I could use toward a replacement. I ordered a replacement right away. Same great jacket, but I have to say the newer version feels a little more snug than my old jacket. This does happen at Patagonia. Same styles can change fit slightly over time. I still love the jacket, but maybe I will have to put the heavier fleeces on the outside. That would have been a good idea in the briar patch... Thank you Patagonia for my replacement credit and for all those years of service before and to come with the new jacket!
Sleeves a bit too big
I wanted to love this jacket - don't hate it either. The sleeves, towards the bicep area, are way too big. Wish the sleeves were a bit more snug/tighter. (Or maybe I should start working out) Also, the collar does not stay up, other than it, I like/enjoy it. Fits perfect everywhere else. It's Patagonia, so I get compliments on it.
My favorite Jacket ever
I bought my First down sweater around 2005 and I just replaced it! for over a decade this was a jacket worn daily in the NC mountains, it saw action as a mid layer when snowboarding, saw tons of miles on local trails, functioned great as my outer layer going to and from class or work ( when in college and after while teacher for the same institutio... My first one was black, I went with fire red this time because I had never seen another human in that color! I own a ton of gear from Patagonia and I have not been let down yet, what a great company; I will always support Patagonia as you really get what you pay for.
My Go To Jacket
This will be my second jacket as the first one has finally lost it's loft and feathers from years of daily use. The jacket is warm and very packable. Warmer than it looks, wish they offered a tall version
I bought this expecting to need more layers, but I've been walking, biking and cross country skiing with wind chills of 25-30 below, wearing a t-shirt and long sleeve shirt under. I wish they had a tall version of their sizes like other companies. The torso and sleeves are a bit short for a large.
Excellent light weight jacket
When the jacket arrived I was somewhat concerned by the light weight and "thinness" of the jacket, however having worn on a couple of coldest days I cannot believe how warm the jacket is. It is a very comfortable jacket. The downside, only a minute after you step outside the jacket develops the stench of a sweaty dog. Even returned it and got a new one, same thing happened.

This sweater jacket fit me perfectly. With a medium weight base layer, this garment kept me warm in temperatures as low as 40 degrees fahrenheit. My husband absolutely loves the jacket! Fits true to size, great for California winter weather. The color looks a bit darker on the screen but I thought to myself lets give it a try, it was on sale at such a good price. The color is actually a bit lighter in person which works perfectly.

I miss the Early version!
I am still getting used to this replacement for the earlier down version of this ultra light "down" jacket. I really really want this to fit but Ive tried the nano puff and now this down sweater and they all fit like a square box. If I size down to a medium the torso and sleeves are way too short. Seriously, if you dont have a world class beer belly this will hang off you. Warmth and quality is incredible which makes me wish all the more it fit.

My first one was purchased in 2007. It's still great, though I have "girthed up." Will be sending it to the "worn wear" folks. Very warm, with little bulk. If you have a micro fleece jacket, cotton flannel shirt, or sweater underneath, it is much warmer than others seem to think. Top notch product!

The large has good arm length that doesnt creep up the wrists when I extend my arms. Im 61 and got a 34 waist and can say that for me the girth of the jacket would house someone with a larger waist line than me. Im right around 190. The latest model of the down sweater smells like a wet dog. I don't know if it's recycled down or what, but none of my prior Patagonia down products smell like this. I returned it and ordered the same sweater by Patagonia but got it through REI. Same smell. I also tried washing and drying it. Same smell.
Daniel, we're sorry to hear this Down Sweater didn't work for you. The fabric is recycled, but the insulation is 800-fill-power Advanced Global Traceable Down. We're glad you were able to return it, but don't hesitate to [reach out](https://help.patagonia.com/s/) if you ever want help to [return](https://help.patagonia.com/s/topic/0TO1L0000002yyTWAQ/returns-exchanges) future orders. I have the Nano Puff, which I seem to live in most of the year, but wanted a warmer jacket and this is perfect! I’m 6’0” and about 185 and got the Large. Sleeve length is perfect but it seems a tad big and definitely puffy! But the Medium I tried on at stores were way to tight with layers underneath...Very Happy with my purchase!!!
Almost Perfect, but hand pockets have Fatal flaw
This jacket is fantastic in so many ways. The warmth and fit are covered in many of the other positive reviews, so I'll focus on the one fatal flaw here: the hand pockets. Unless you zip the hand pockets shut, everything (e.g., gloves and hats) will silently slip out, and you'll be forever buying new hats and gloves - that you had tried t... Read Moreo store in the pockets! Perhaps, if Patagonial were to angle the pockets, things would not slip out... I leave that for Patagonia to solve. Meanwhile, when you're looking at the price of this jacket, factor in replacing a pair of gloves or hat (perhaps many!)
Great and packable, does not last long
I purchased this jacket in March of 2018. It's my go to packable jacket for trips of any kind. It's been great. Unfortunately, over the course of these 20 months it's developed a series of holes along the bottom seam. I count ten right now. I don't expect to replace a jacket every two years.
Hi Jonathan. We're sorry to hear you're having durability issues with this jacket. Please feel free to either send it in to us for a [free repair or a warranty return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html).
My first down sweater is still a favorite. Probably 5 years old. I bought a black one last month. It has a smell like a wet dog. I am trying to air it out but so far no luck. Great product but I won’t enjoy smelling like a dog if it doesn’t change.
Hi Larod, thanks for taking the time to write us a review! We're really sorry to hear about the smell your experiencing with your down jacket. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed so you're welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return).
I have owned this jacket for many, many years. It went with me around the world, up mountains, and beside lakes. It fits great, and packs right into your pack. It was my every day jacket as well as my adventure jacket. Through every tear, Patagonia fixed it. They always made sure it was ready for my next adventure, which should be enough of a selli... Read Moreng point. Not long ago, I was in an accident and lost the jacket that has traveled the world with me for the last 8 years (not my choice, cause like I said...accident). Despite it all, my first purchase was another down sweater jacket, because I knew I had more adventures ahead of me. Make the same choice.
Great Jacket. Warm and Light
Overall great . Warm for the weight, great wind resistance and DWR. Misses 4 stars due to the sizing. Been wearing Patagonia for longer than I remember . I'm 6'1" 180 33" waist and historically dead on large, also in other brands. In Patagonia lately Larges are too big but Medium way too small.. This jacket fits in the shoulder... Read Mores but a lot of extra material around the waist.
Loved it until durability failed
I loved the look, comfort, and style this jacket provided, however, it didn't last. I purchased one around 10/2018 and I noticed 2 holes in the upper-back region where some feathers were falling out around 8/2019. I'm fairly careful with my garments and assume the material was just non-durable. I didn't wear it during the summer so I... Read More got about 5 months of wear out of it. I love my other Patagonia jackets, but this one didn't last!
Hi Doug, thanks for taking the time to write us a review! We're truly sorry to hear about those holes developing after such little use. You're, of course, welcome to [return](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return) the jacket under warranty. We'll reach out to you directly with further assistance!
Most comfortable jacket (Sweater) I've owned
This is my second M'S DOWN SWEATER. I had my first one for 3 years, and lost it. It was so light and comfortable I had to get another one. It's great for spring and fall weather when the weather is above freezing. I sometimes wear a sweatshirt underneath on colder days and it is very warm. I would recommend it to anyone as an everyday cas... Read Moreual jacket.
So much warmer than the Uniqlo down jacket that I've been wearing for the past few years but it packs up just as small for travel. Obviously pricier than Uniqlo, but worth the investment because it's so warm and of excellent quality. Planning to purchase for other members of our family.
Seems like a good jacket
Seems like a good jacket but the shell got a hole from a park bench within the first weeks of wear.
Hi Jeff, it's a bummer when this happens! The outer fabric of the Down Sweater is very delicate. Please feel free to send it in to us for a [free repair](https://help.patagonia.com/s/topic/0TO1L0000002yyOWAQ/repairs).
My wife told me so...
She has been telling me for years to pickup one of these down sweaters and I should have. I have denied myself of an almost perfect everyday light jacket that is warm, looks good, and fits perfectly. I am now looking at a closet full of "other" jackets and wondering what needs to go.
Mens Down Feather Sweater
I love the jacket, it is exactly what I wanted. I saw the advertised model wearing the jacket was 6 feet tall and was wearing a medium, which really put the size into perspective. I am 5'8" and the jacket fits me exactly how I wanted; u to my wrists on the sleeves and just below the waist line.
This is the second down sweater jacket I've received of this production run that had a faint smell of a "wet dog." I'm guessing that it must be the down and I question if it's a new source of down that is bringing this scent. Other than that, this is an everyday go-to when the temperature is suitable. Fantastic jacket and a... Read More staple to any wardrobe. Always a 5 star, except for this review and the odd smell the jacket has.
6’2 200 lbs - fits perfect
This is a semi tight fit if you have a lot of belly fat but if you’re just a dude who likes to workout / hike and be active but also likes beer and pizza, this should fit just fine. Packs down relatively small for how warm of a jacket it is. I have a 35” waist and it’s perfect on the waist
Poor quality, disappointing
This was my second Patagonia down jacket I purchased. The first jacket lasted over four years. However, this jacket could not even hold up for one season. The shell is now made from a thinner material that wears down easily. The elbows were worn out after several months and I was shedding down wherever I went. Disappointing to see my favorite jacke... Read Moret is no longer made to the same high standards as before. Expensive jacket to only last two months.

Excellent fit and function, but not super durable
Great warmth, not very durable I’ve had this jacket for about two and a half years. I’ve worn it significantly while backpacking, skiing, hiking, and at work (I work for the US Forest Service) in a variety of conditions. It is incredibly warm and comfortable and packs up to an easily packable size (I call it my “oh s**t” jacket because it serves as... Read More my ace in the hole along with a wool beanie that I can throw on at the top of an accent in nasty weather). It breathes surprisingly well and still seems to insulate to a fair degree more than other down products I’ve had when it gets wet. When I wear it under my torrentshell, it’s bomber. If I had to get it again, I would definitely get it with the hood however. My big complaint: it started to wear out super fast. From the beginning I was having to pull feathers back into the coat. it soon developed holes in the lower sleeves around the forearm and wrist, eventually extending halfway up the arm to the elbow. I’ve been on top of it with tenacious tape, but the problem still grows. The next area to develop holes was along the waist cuff, especially where the draw string bunches the fabric. I would gladly add a few ounces of weight for a more durable product. Unless you are just planning on wearing this jacket to go shopping at Whole Foods and attend mountain film festival showings, I would expect it to wear out fast.
Thank you so much for letting us know about your sweater. We do our best to make sure our products last a lifetime and our customers are satisfied, please go ahead and [send](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=return) that in as a warranty return.
Compact. Warm. Packable. Perfect
The color is vibrant and bright. I love the pop of the orange zipper and inside. Aside from the aesthetics, the jacket itself proves it's functionality in that it eliminates the need for extra clothes. It's warm enough to hold one over in the cool mornings at camp, yet packs small enough and light enough to put it away after starting the ... Read Morehike. The only 'complaint' is the random feather that comes out from time to time. But this comes with the territory when wearing down.
Love my men’s down sweater
I’ve wanted one for a while to fill the gap between too cold for nano and full on winter coat. Although it may handle winter in the U.P. of Michigan just fine if my use while waiting for spring is any indication. It’s light. It’s warm. I get compliments on the color, I’m 6’4” and there is plenty of sleeve length in the large for me and length in th... Read Moree torso so no drafts. Collar is still an issue...
I love the jacket, but the collar is still an issue: the zipper does not go fully up the length of the jacket, and stops about 2-3 inches short of the top. This is fine as it's more hassle to send the jacket back, which is otherwise superb. I had sent a previous Patagonia jacket back for the same reason though, so it may be a trend...
Sorry to hear that the collar on this jacket has been a disappointment. You're welcome to [return](https://is.gd/DQq2nw) it to a Patagonia-owned store or send it in for a credit.
Down jacket has a great weight, style and fit However the pocket zipper has already come apart with only a few wears. Don’t like the static shock once in a while either. However ... warm and compressible and a good all round 8 month-er northeast weather packable essential. Would it be possible to have 2 upper inside zipped pockets?
Sorry to hear that the zippers are coming undone on your jacket, that definitely should not be the case. You are welcome to send the jacket in for [repair](https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html#searchterm=repair) at any point. We will reach out to you privately to help you out.
Good lightweight jacket
Love the colors on the jacket. It breathes, but gets a star off because its fit is blocky. Also it's not nearly as warm as the cold forge hoody from black diamond that I have that's similar in weight and price. But that one doesn't breathe as well or come in such good colors.
