Purchased a larger size than necessary to wear during the winter with a fleece jacket. It is waterproof, wore during a downpour. Like the color for walking on the street, helps to be seen. The only thing is the jacket could use a few more zip pockets.
Quality product, but the sleeves were really long for size
The jacket was well made and the customer service is always top notch. My 1st Patagonia purchase & the 1st genuine lightweight & 100% dry jacket I've ever found. Used on winter dog walks, south coast hikes, Costa Rican rain forest hikes & soon the UK 3 Peaks Challenge.
It says slim fit & it is (so ignore the muppets that say it's too tight!).
Ive had 3 off these other several years( lost one) and it seems a change to the whole zipper area has been a big improvement. Also the hood seems a better design. Communication has been excellent too. Also love the minimalist packing!!
We are currently in Costa Rico, and it has rained more than we planned, the coat is perfect for any location, keeps you dry, allows for ventilation in hot and humid. This jacket fits a bit large. Im 5-8/132lbs and had to go from S to XS to get a decent fit, and still had room for layers. Pros include waterproofness, pit zippers and a nice adjustable hood. The Torrentshell is considered our base model of waterproof jackets, so its features are minimal and it's made with our H2No material. The Calcite will not only have more features, it's also made with GORE-TEX which is considered top of the line. Both are great jackets but fulfill different needs. Nice product and water proof
Love the jacket and keeps me dry during the rainy days. I am happy to get in on sale.
I like the fabric technology and price, but the fit is strange ... for me (6'1", 170). Reviewer of Torrentshell 3L Rain Jacket
I bought one size larger than I usually get for jackets so I could wear a lighter jacket underneath. It works as intended.
I seriously doubt you could find a better shell for the price, waterproof, wind proof, breathable and vented pits, It comes in a large variety of colors and works perfect as that outer shell of a layered solution, love this jacket!
Worked extremely well in heavy rain.
True to size note applies to the Large, but tried the Medium and it was very tight under the armpits. Also could use an interior pocket. The drawstrings around the hood seem to slip after a bit of use.
Been collecting specific Patagonia pieces for the last decade focused on function and durability and the Torrentshell is no exception. Have not needed to use the pit zips yet, but the mechanical venting is worth the extra weight. I love it. It keeps out the rain, the fit is fantastic. Roomy enough for layering, but not sloppy big. I am thrilled that Patagonia is carrying this in 3xl. Other brands at this size fit like tents. The jacket, and all its features make it worth it. It truly keeps you dry and blocks out the wind, which is why I appreciate being able to unzip where the underarms are. I really like the color too.
Patagonia upped the game with further improvements on the already fantastic Torrentshell jacket. Enhanced lining. More weather protection designed around zipper. Tailored for the fit. This is the best choice at a very fair price.
All season, must take item no matter where you are going. Smart design. Packable. Light weight. Versatile, mainly because of the pit zips and hood. Runs true to size enabling some room to layer, allowing mild winter use. Go Play!
I wanted a good waterproof rain jacket that's durable and packable. The Torrentshell 3L Jacket is exactly that. Wear it in the city, on the trail, and as a backup jacket in my bag.

Durable
Was looking for a durable no frills jacket to wear running and didn't want an ultra thin jacket that would rip so easily. This jacket will last as long as my last rain jacket, 10+ years with a proper recoat
Using this as an over/top coat so ordered a L fits over any hoodie or jacket no problem but not oversized so can still use with no other layers. Worked perfectly in first time out in the rain no damp spots. Beads right off.
Fly fishing in the rain can be uniquely rewarding. It is far more enjoyable when your rain wear allows you to ignore the elements and concentrate on making stealthy, efficient presentations. The Torrentshell 3L is solid good gear.
I'd probably give it five stars if I had had the chance to wear in in really bad weather and it performed as well as it has on regular rainy days.

I'm a woman (5'7", 160lb. ) who chose the men's Torrentshell (XL) for it's slightly longer length compared to the women's version. I rolled the sleeves inward and felt very comfy in it. Read Morerday in a 40 minute medium-strength rain with a light and small daypack with thin straps. Temperature 45F, slow pace, no inclines, I was nowhere near sweating. At home I saw large patches had wetted out, where my backpack was sitting and in large circles around the arm pits. Inside the jacket was dry except for the pit zips - I had kept them closed the entire time, zippers pulls all the way up into the upper corners. This raised a few questions for me. 1) If this happens with the pit zips closed in medium rain for 40 minutes at low activity, how much water gets in with the zips opened? Is this to be accepted? 2) Why are the pit zip shields open towards the *back*, not the front? Anyone walking tends to bends over slightly, not backwards, especially with a backpack or when going uphill, making it even easier for water to enter the pit zips. Same for the pocket zippers. What is the reason for this orientation? 3) Is wetting out normal on first wear in the described conditions? Am I expected to waterproof the jacket before first wear? 4) Why call it Torrentshell if it's not made for torrential downpours?
Hi Chris, when the inside of your jacket has moisture, generally it's caused by moisture trying to get out or being trapped by your base layer rather than coming in from the outside. Your base layer should keep you warm and dry underneath your jacket. Sweating and exposure to moisture in the air can quickly saturate many cotton or natural fiber base layers, so a next to skin layer of wicking fabric is critical. Moisture-wicking material transfers the water molecules from the surface of your skin to the outer clothing layers, keeping you dry from the inside out, as well as the outside in.
Our [Capilene](https://www.patagonia.com/search/?q=capilene+tops&lang=en_US) is an example of a wicking, fast drying base layer that is specifically designed to work with our waterproof shells.
If you find the jacket to be leaking even after trying this suggestion you are welcome to return it anytime under our Ironclad Guarantee.

Exactly what I wanted!
Great jacket and exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a light 3 layer waterproof and this jacket is exactly that. I got caught in a heavy downpour up in the Scottish hills and it kept me bone dry! Love it.
love this jacket so much - the lining breaks down when not cared for properly - but patagonia has always replaced it without issue and has improved the technology so this wont keep happening. best company ever!
Great, looking like a good jacket. I have swapped from Rohan Vertex what I had for 3 years. In Patagonia's way of thinking and this jacket is great, only lacks pockets inside and the overall outside pockets are quite tiny.

It is sealed at the seams very well and is absolutely waterproof. The armpit vents are great. The zipper is great. The pockets are great. The lining is great. The material looks great too. Lightweight well-designed water resistant wind breaker
Everything about this jacket is great except one feature. It is lightweight, packable, durable, breathes well, adjusts to body and weather, great colors. Only issue, why did this nearly perfect jacket not come with a two-way zipper? I'll live without but that is often a convenient feature.
I like to wear sweaters under my coat, so I ordered a large and am happy to say I made the right choice. The material is thin, which I wanted, but holds in heat and repels moisture. Very pleased!
This is a well build product and it kept me very dry while outside for hours in the rain at a Patriots game. It has under arm vents which are great for air flow. It could use an inside pocket or chest pocket, but super handy that it is self stowable.
This jacket lives up to its description, absolutely shedding water like a duck in a river. I wore it yesterday to play golf in the rain and stayed absolutely dry the whole outing. The fit is a little boxy in the body, but overall the jacket is well worth the investment.
Pro: This is an excellent jacket to keep out the rain, snow and wind. Seams don't leak and the fabric repels water like no other jacket I've had.
